Okay, you know what, everything else in this game is awesome, but fuck Naomi is the worst character in the game and the scenes with Naomi and Otacon are the most cringe-worthy things I've seen in my entire life

Understandable, I went back and checked my stats, I had 349 front dives and 0 sideways rolls. I went back, did exactly as the video did and as you have it written and rolled 10 times, one at a time. I went and checked the stats again and they were exactly the same. Just for kicks I even did jumping sideways rolls to see if they would count towards that stat and it is still at 0 so I don't know what the deal is.Very odd. I had suspected that you had fulfilled the requirement and quit to the menu after saving but without getting a checkpoint but that does not seem to be the case if you just continued in the act, Something should definitely be registering however. Which area of the game are you in?
I advise, if possible, you load the Act 2 Mission Briefing, skip the first two cutscenes and then take note of your forward and sideways rolls on the ticker. Then reload your save, do five sideways rolls. exit the area and re-enter it and save and recheck your stats. If nothing changes, something is definitely glitche or being done wrong. If Forward Rolls increases a dive must be done accidentally (by being in a standing or crouched position, holding L1 and pressing X sideways, this MAY count as a forward roll). If Sideway Rolls increases then I don't know what the problem was. Mine is recording fine as of Act 3 so I'm not sure how to troubleshoot it.
EDIT: Also, it's 4am where I am and I really have to sleep so just in case (although you said you're doing it the same as the video so I don't know if this is even relevant to you as you sound like you're doing it right): You need to go prone, press L1, tilt the analogue to one side, press X, leave it go, tilt to the side again and press X again. If you update this with further information or clarification after this just be aware that it'll be about 6 hours or more before I get back to you.
Does Peacewalker have any relavence to MGS4?

Really now? You don't thinkis a million times worse? I sure as hell do.Meryl/Johnny
Even as someone that religiously followed the series since MGS1, 4's story is so fucking stupid. Still, the gameplay's fun and that's what I play it for (unlike say, Mass Effect 3).
I'm sure this has already been answered and I probably already know but forgot, but why did Naomi make a copy of Snakes DNA?
I know she put a virus on that card for Otacon to attack the patriots AI, but why did she make a copy of Snakes dna?
Holding up the resistance member in act 3 is not getting me the iPod song...

When are you doing it?
I did it in the last section, when he dresses up as a PMC member, and it popped right out.

That and sound design. The sound in the game is fantastic. After four years, one thing that still really impresses me in this game (compared to games released since) is the camera work during cutscenes. They really did a good job of emulating the way an actual film is shot... something most games don't accomplish during their cutscenes. The Uncharted games, as much as I love them, would do well to follow the example set in MGS4.

She sexy bro.
Not even. I wish she would close her shirt.
She tells Sunny "us girls have to look our best" basically with her boobs hanging in front of Sunny's face. Way to set a good example for the kid, Naomi.
This pretty much sums up the game for me, it was so incredibly ridiculous. I was fine with EVA though.
because eva its a damn fine femme fatale, even at her age.
But naomi is a researcher that comes as a slutty person in mgs4 :C
I agree, it was anime-esque a little bit.

Does the game handle each act seperate, trophy wise? So if you fuck up sonewhere, you van just replay the act. Is there a trophy for 1 big nonlethal playthrough?

Is the only thing that I can think of but again, I don't even think that applies )as I believe you've mentioned your doing this) so I don't really have any idea why it isn't updating I'm afraid. The best two things I can suggest are to progress further in the game and after the first section in Outer Haven but before you go into the Screaming Mantis area to try again and if it still does not unlock then you can just try again later for one of the emblems that require one playthrough for one emblem (such as Leopard or Centipede).About this... are you just doing the rolls, saving, and then exiting? Because that won't count. When you do anything in this game, in order for it to count you have to first pass through to a new area for a checkpoint. THEN it's okay to save and quit. Otherwise, anything you did did not count.
Whenever you make a save in this game. The save is as if you just entered the area. Anything done after that point is not counted in the save.
Okay, no it wasn't glitching, the trophy guides I've read just suck. You have to actually to do the full lie down and fake die thing to actually get the trophy. Not just start or end an alert.
I was facepalming the whole way through the act 3 briefing. So many cringeworthy moments. Holy hell.
"keep your glasses off. They make you look handsome"
"y-y-y-you think so?"
Not the trophy guides, it's the actual trophy list that is incorrect unfortunately: http://blog.us.playstation.com/2012/08/03/metal-gear-solid-4-ps3-trophies-revealed/
"Silver: I Just Dont Fear Death - Caused ALERT status while wearing the Corpse Camo."
Whereas it should probably be "Remove Alert Status while wearing the Corpse Camo".
I finally got it to work. So either A) I for one time in the game saved and quit for some reason, or B) I had my weapon equipped and was aiming when I did the rolls like another poster suggested (I had it unequiped all the other times). Either way, I got it and now I'm set.Hmm. In that case this:

EDIT: ZeroKoolPSX, Yeah, I'd definitely try to get more kills and life recovery item uses as soon as you can (you don't need Continues until Act 5 when you can murder Meryl) The Confinement Facility in Act 2 is, very literally, perfect for a significant number of kills as is the turret on the Vista Mansion roof. For the life recovery items just hold up, search and kill the enemies in the Power Station, exit and enter the area again and repeat and there should be more than enough rations for you. However, I also recently discovered that if you get your life bar down to less than one segment of the entire bar and go to friendly Militia, each seperate Militia Member will continually throw rations at you while your health is low. This means that you can take advantage of this and wait beside the Militia with almost no health, collect Rations off them, wait for them to die and then let the replacements that come (if it's an area where they respawn) give you another ration and repeat. This lets you quickly get Blue Bird and the Life Recovery Items used requirement.
She was, she needed to act fast. She useddyingon bothseductionandOtacon.Vamp
"This is just like one of my Japanese hentai's."
Well the actual trophy list says "Ended Alert Status while wearing the Corpse Camo".

Wait, so if I want to do a no-alert run, I can just save and reload when I get spotted and it won't count?Whenever you make a save in this game. The save is as if you just entered the area. Anything done after that point is not counted in the save.

That suddenly makes the whole thing a lot less frustrating. Retroactive save-scumming.
yes , but.she really had no point on suiciding at that point either way. Better when the whole system is taken down in case they need any help with the mission
I just realized this. I picked up items in act 1, saved, thinking it would save, but its still the same area. I do something stupid, get caught. Reload my save. Its like I never picked up anything. Well, the more you know.Wait, so if I want to do a no-alert run, I can just save and reload when I get spotted and it won't count?

Hmm, I've never been able to do a no-alert run in any MGS game. Could be something fun to try after this somewhat haphazard playthrough I'm doing. Going for all the dolls, though.Yes, exactly. The previous games implemented Save Restrictions for the Big Boss Emblem and other high-ranking emblems which is why Big Boss emblem, and the others, were so difficult to obtain. MGS4 has not implemented this however (unfortunately or fortunately depending on your point of view) and does not keep a track of saves so all you have to do is save when you enter certain areas (you can save everywhere if you want but it is very time consuming) and then if you mess up you can just die and exit the game and then reload your save. That's exactly why anybody that is being put off by the Big Boss Emblem requirement shouldn't be, it's far easier in this game than in any of the others and isn't as difficult as it seems (which is why I'd argue Chicken with all the emblems is more difficult).
People knock MGS for its long cutscenes but the ones in MGS4 are so finely crafted and with great dialogue and action it's as good as watching a film. Still the most entertaining cutscenes this gen and a reason why cutscenes should not totally go away from games, you just can't pull that off while in control.

I'm probably at 60-ish alerts at the middle of Act 3. Going for none will be difficult. There are some areas I simply have no idea how to get past unseen. Maybe i should see if any items will do anything useful for that. Are smoke grenades useful in the game? I would assume it at least gets a "Huh?" from any guard who sees it. How do they react?
If you've not done no alert runs in previous games I highly advise you go back and try since just going for no alerts/no kills you can save to your hearts content, it's only the higher emblems like Foxhound and Big Boss that have the save limits and they really help you to improve your playstyle while also adding extra challenge to the game (and then, if you want and when you're ready you can try go for the difficult emblems) and it should add an extra element of tension to the game and thus, enjoyment.Hmm, I've never been able to do a no-alert run in any MGS game. The way I see it is:
2. She died in the exact same place Grey Fox died 9 years earlier.
Isn't one of Naomi's first line in MGS1 ''maybe I'll let you do a strip search on me''?
She comes across as quite slutty right of the bat.
