...where? as in.. the passage goes back outside? I know of the RPG inside the base near the wood... whatever the hell those are.

I've beat the game over 10 times and I've never noticed this passage...

It's close to the exit. Use your NV and it's pretty easy to spot.

Well, aside from continues and total time played, I've farmed enough for all 22 emblems in the Chicken run, and I just arrived at the Vista Mansion in Act 2. I think it's time to take a break, though, I've been playing this all day.

All this grinding for emblems is definitely a pain in the ass, but I don't think Platinuming this game is going to take AS long as I initially thought it would.

Just 14 more hours of this Chicken run, and all subsequent runs will probably be around 5 hours or so. BBE run could take a long time if I have to reload saves a lot...

Sadly there isn't. Only at the end of the game.

Anyways I just completed Act 3 with 29 hours on the clock... fuck I need a life hahaha.

Getting the Bear kills takes forever.

If I have more than 1:00:00 for crawling time in the Mission Briefing, is that taken care of?

I spent the better part of today formatting and editing it to get it closer to what people were expecting. I added in Maps for the first 2 chapters unfortunately I couldn't find any for the other 3. It clocks in at about 55 pages.

Its made on A4 in word and I recommend you print it in booklet form rather than a stack of paper. I like it get it shrunk to 2 A5 pages, it think it's much nicer that way.

Feel free to re-host it or edit and upload a new copy.

Hope people enjoy it[/QUOTE]

Thanks, that's great! :D

I've got a week off and have been alternating between 3 on Vita and now 4. Even though I'd played them all before, this week might have elevated MGS4 up to one of my favourite game series ever. I'm already planning my next play throughs and looking for MGS action figures. Gutted that MGO is now finished as I'm hyped enough to want to play it now.

Wish you could fast forward the podcasts though.

Also would love Peace Walker HD for Vita. You can't go back after the HD collection.

You help them in the beginning by using the rpg to blow up the APC, taking out PMC trooper for them or you can give them rations. just equip a ration stand in front of them and press triangle.

Lots of people think that's it, but in reality there are many more opportunities to help them win battles. In the middle East, you can help them out with the sniper area, and help them push forward with their tank.

In South America, you can help the rebels overtake just about every land mark up to the mansion.

Problem is...I totally forgot how for most of them. :(

Guide

Great work. Although I think you need to give credit to The One Who Knocks on the front page of the guide. I'm not in any way implying that you're trying to take the credit, but seeing as the guide might spread beyond GAF I think he at least deserves his handle on the front page. Just my .02 :)

Yep, that's "Inch Worm" out of the way.

Donald Bubbins, I've put your guide at the beginning of the first post. However, so many characters were added that it required me to go back and drastically edit most of the posts (I am, literally, at 24,000 characters for every single one of the posts so I don't think I can add any more. If any more changes must be made I'll link to another post of mine and add things to that) but you don't need to edit it to reflect this, it was literally just trying to find a way to make it fit.

Happy to do so. Will update tomorrow.
If anyone has any feedback or additions feel free to hit me up, or go ahead and edit it yourself. Try to keep with the style though.

Thank you :) And thanks so much for all the work you put into making and maintaining it.

Did you use the guide in the original post for the Flashbacks might I ask (to see if the list in the guide is complete)? And did you get all of the *FLASHBACK* (the in game flashbacks) ones too or just from the cutscenes

I got all cutscene, audio and gameplay flashbacks just to be sure.

I basically just mashed X throughout every cutscene. I used the PS3trophies.org guide to make sure I didn't miss the gameplay and audio flashbacks, though. But I'm still not sure if these count.

This game really holds up. Sure, the world textures are pretty low res and it lacks the newest in graphical effects, but the attention to detail is AMAZING!

Character details, facial expressions, actual dust flying to the air in the indoor scenes, fantastic animations, actual animated pilots inside planes/helicopters even though you can barely see them, the list goes on.

They weren't cutting any corners. This game will age well

The screenshots do not do the game justice, in motion it truly is a sight to behold.

I am still blown away by the Octamo. Favourite technical wizardry this gen!

Have to say, I really dislike the boss battles in this game. The final fight against Liquid is awesome, but every single member of the B&B's is a chore to fight. Such a huge step down from Snake Eater.

The Fear and Fury fights really sucked.

What? During cutscenes, not gameplay. Everything Snake does is pretty much re-used PS2 assets.

Theres a bunch of good animations and details in game too. There are some old reused stiff animations yes which mostly are focused on your in game character, but enemy and npcs running around look very good.

Guide is awesome, much better put together than my copy/paste job into word. Won't be able to start my run until tomorrow, but it will be awesome.

TGO

Hype Train conductor. Works harder than it steams.
I'm sure this has already been answered and I probably already know but forgot, but why did Naomi make a copy of Snakes DNA?
I know she put a virus on that card for Otacon to attack the patriots AI, but why did she make a copy of Snakes dna?

Oh, definitely. NPCs move well in the game, it's just Snake that moves like crap. PMC movement while walking actually impressed me a lot. Proper direction shifting and so forth, looks very nice. They plant their feet.

For those that don't have the Bear emblem yet or are still working on it, I can confirm that you only need to grab the enemy. Choking them to death isn't necessary. The emblems Gibbon, Bee, and Ant can also be farmed on a single enemy.

I'm surprised how good this game still looks. I didn't expect a 2008 game to look very appealing after all these years, I was wrong.

The hate this game got were so unjustified now that I'm playing it again after 4 years and comparing it to todays games.

Graphics are stll impressive
Gameplay is solid
Story is top notch
Soundtrack is mindblowing

Still a 9.5/10 in my book.

Has anyone else noticed a lot of flickering graphics, especially during cutscenes, since the patch? I'm not sure if the patch did something or my gpu is dying.

I would love to post this on my Metal Gear website for my readers, would this be possible?

It got revoted for GOTY 2008 in 2012 for a reason, baby. Dispite some vocal negativity by some, overall Neogaf knows what's up. GOTY 2012!

Those are sentiments I can agree with. Even to this day I consider MGS4 to be my PS3's killer app.

Wow! Seriously? Do you mind if I ask how you've managed to confirm this? Was it in Act 5?

Yes, it was in Act 5 on my BBE file. For Bear, I just grabbed and released the enemy 100 times. For Gibbon, I counted a hold up as any time that Snake said "Freeze!". I was actually holding up two enemies at once, so I only did this 25 times. For Bee and Ant, I just did their respective actions 50 times in a row.

My problems with the game:

-ending was nice but way too long
-between act interludes on the winged Mystery Machine were horrible
-Otacon's crying
-cutscenes were way too long even by MGS standards
-Outer Haven was too small
-nanomachines explained too much, including what the island is
-final battle with Liquid Ocelot had a weird, unsatisfying setting... and seagulls
-Naomi having cancer sucked, and her death with Otacon crying on MkII's screen is the worst scene of all time
-install times between acts
-no trophies

Some of those are in nitpick territory, but still negatives to me. Game would have been ten-fold better without those things IMO.

While that's a decently hefty list, I consider them to be largely forgiveable in light of everything else the game does right.

Are you saying I could have grabbed the same enemy again and again without having left the screen and it would have counted?

I'm enjoying Act 3 more than I thought I would. Mainly because the atmosphere is just awesome, it's like being in a Jean-Pierre Melville film. I just wish they had given you more to do, forced you to explore the area at your own pace or something. But it's really not bad, just terribly halfbaked.

Act 3, 4, and 5 are all awesome for what they are...

I think it's just when playing the game for the first time, after playing Act 1 and 2, you get hyped for 3 more acts being something similar but just in a different location. Then you realize that Act 1 and 2 were more than 50% of the game and the disappointment sets in...

But yeah, I love MGS4, and I love Act 3-5, too. Amazing game
