Metal Gear Solid V announced (PS360, open world)

Keighley's just confirmed through a Kojima interview that Hayter isn't involved.

Fun 1 hour interview with @HIDEO_KOJIMA_EN. Will have it online later this week. He confirmed no Hayter for MGS5 and a lot of other things.

Link.

Did he give any indication as to what was meant by "open world"? I mean, looking back on it the original MGS and MGS 3 to an extent felt like open world games in that you were able to go back and explore most areas of the game at most points in the game. Or is this gonna be like a real seamless open world free of load times and segmented off combat areas?

It will be a collection of big maps set in different areas and countries.

OH MY

From the Wiki:

"VR training is researched and developed."

There's a lot of light streaks and 'lens flare' but sometimes without any obvious source.

Could it be Kojima is trying to suggest that VR was developed in his universe (by the Patriots, Foxhound, whoever) and it's somehow tied into Big Boss and psychic forces?

I've still got to play Peace Walker so I might be wrong but in MGS 1-4 the only character who rode a horse was The Boss:

Obviously from MGS3 we know her outcome but the imagery would be a strong one for Big Boss and it can't be a coincidence that it looks like Ocelot is the one riding the horse that Big Boss shoots at the fiery unicorn/Pegasus thing from.

So yeah, looks similar to the Animus from Assassin's Creed, would give Kojima the freedom to tell stories from 'memories'.

And one last idea I had - what if the game is a remake of Metal Gear except you play as Big Boss leading up to it and Solid Snake is your final boss?

Snake rides Boss horse in PW.

I am sorry if this has been asked before, but I am completely new to the series and I really really enjoyed the trailer. If anyone could PM me some sort of site that I can basically read through the story or something like that It would be appreciated. I don't care how long it is, I just do not have the time or nor do I have the access to the older games.

Amazing trailer though, great song choice and if it looks like that on consoles I will be very satisfied. Kojima did all the right things teasing/marketing/trolling this game, wish more would approach things the way he did. I've enjoyed every minute of it.

It's amazing to see how dynamic and unbaked the lighting and material/texture work is. Being able to make everything look wet without having an artists having to do everything is pretty amazing. Same thing with the lighting.

It's a horse dude. Most people can ride them. BB rides one in Peace Walker and Ocelot does so in this sem-hallucination/vr/whatever hospital scenario.

Nice, I still didn't believe it until official announcement even though detective GAF is almost always right. Going to finish my MGS4 stealth and Trophy run after Infinite and Rising wear me out.

Solid Snake being the final boss would be brilliant.

Mind blown.

IMO we aren't playing as the Big boss. We're playing as the third person that we see in the first minutes. We're are made to believe we are actually Big Boss, throught intensive mind manipulation (psycho mantis kid) and face remodelation cirurgy. Remember MGS2, when Big Shell incident was just some kind of VR training to show how you could create someone like Snake from any soldier? This is the same, with all the memories of the Big Boss, that other soldier becomes Big Boss, but with the secondary effects of mental unstability. That would explain why hayter isn't part of the game, because...we actually aren't playing as Snake.

He would be like what 11-12 years old? That would be really weird.

Peace Walker takes place in 1974 and Les Enfants Terribles Projects was in 1972. If it's 9 years after Peace Walker it means that it's been like 11 years since Solid Snake was born.

Doubtful. Unless you are actually reliving his memories, it would make no sense, it would just be a big waste of time to not play as Big Boss when we can do so.

Hmm...this just makes me want to play Peace Walker on Vita, and MGS4 over...Love Hideo's stuff..

hopefully it's announced for PS4 at E3 as well...I'm getting more and more done with my PS3 with all the PS4 news...

Seriously though, it took long enough..how long have fans been asking for a story on Outer Haven and Zanzibar...

Big Boss vs. Solid Snake...

"I killed him...he wanted it..."

That line (MGS1) has always been one of the most interesting parts of the story...Finally, we're getting to it! Although the PSP games do shed plenty of light on Big Boss, good to see it finally coming to the forefront.

Looks interesting but I'm getting the feeling that Naked Snake's story is getting a little too fleshed out. Story continuity aside, should be fun though.

Really, really good trailer. Excellent cutting and song choice. Colour me hyped.

What are the chances of Snake not being the playable character ? What if Kojima pulls a Kojima ? Maybe the beginning of the trailer being in first-person but not from Snake is a hint at that.

Also, anyone else noticed that Snake is alone when crawling out of the vehicle, despite clearly being with Ishmael moments before when the vehicle was flipping around ?
