Metal Gear Solid V announced (PS360, open world)

It is, the real question is whether it will be all one disc or they'll nickle and dime us to death. Probably the later since the game industry sucks.

I'm fairly certain they will all be on one disc when "MGSV: The Phantom Pain" is released. But that doesn't remove the possibility of "MGS: Ground Zeroes" being released as a product before that.

I thought Ground Zeroes was like Tanker, a mission that takes place 9 years before Phantom Pain where Snake becomes heavily injured to the point of losing his left hand/arm.

That's the impression Kojima gave at GDC, because in narrative it is. Ground Zeroes -> coma -> The Phantom Pain. People naturally assume it's a Tanker/Big Shell Virtuous/Snake Eater situation. Konami are muddying the water with their "no it's actually two games" shit, which means even if there's similarities in narrative, they may actually be two completely different products.

What if Ground Zeroes is just a multiplayer mode representing the battle and events that are the prologue of The Phantom Pain?

They sell it at a low price as GT Prologue, is a multiplayer mode that is useful to beta test Fox Engine, is good to keep the money coming and creates hype for the story of the actual MGS5.

Could that be?

Crazy idea;
Chico is Mantis......? Could it be?

Impossible. Mantis was born in 1970 in Russia. He started a fire in which all the people living in his village died, getting severe burnings himself which led him to wear the famous mask we saw in MGS.

I doubt the kid we saw in MGSV's trailer is Mantis, because he still has hair on his head, even though he/she's wearing a gas mask.

He means that both games together are "MGS 5", but those both are different games.

Kinda like Harry Potter 6-1 and 6-2 are "Harry Potter 6", yet separate movies.

Hmm, so in GZ Snake is trying to rescue Chico, first, and then Paz? I'm guessing something goes wrong rescuing Paz if she is then seen in Snake's subsequent PP hospital breakout (creepy floating figure).

Also, is that Snake with Zadornov's red prosthetic arm at the end of the trailer? Koj sure loves arm transplants.

Not quite in that sense though. He uses very specific words to refer to the two things. Ground Zeroes is the "prologue" and The Phantom Pain is the "main story". MGSV comprises of a "prologue + main story". The two works are proportionally different. MGSV is mainly TPP.

Doubt they'll do two 'open world games'. So Phantom pane would be tanker, but maybe expanded quite a bit.

However that phantom pain starts with a tutorial, it makes you wonder a bit.

gah edit, meant that Ground zeroes being the tanker, although you never know!

In regards to the horn on BB's head, Isn't it possible that it could just be an accessory/ item?

Kinda like the face octo camo in MGS4. I remember when a trailer was released and it showed young Snake and everyone was like "DDAAA FUC?!"

It's a fucking piece of glass or debris lodged in his head, I don't know how the fuck people leaped right into the most ridiculous possibility of calling it a horn, an extremely rare condition someone can have.

Acting quite casual about having a piece of debris/ glass in his head don't you think?
"yea its fine, Ill just have a ciggy"

Right on the money I'd say. When I saw the horn I thought back to MGS4's "young Snake" as well.

Also remember the Peace Walker trailer that showed 4 Big Bosses on screen. That was just a tease representing co-op mode. Kojima loves to do this kind of shit. People shouldn't take weird things like these so literally.

I refuse to believe its runnnig on current gen.

I don't get this line of thinking. You compare it to the new Battlefield 4 trailer and it clearly looks a generation behind. The trailer is running on PC but all assets are clearly done for the PS360 in mind. They even render their screenshots at 720p without bullshot AA to drive the point home. :P

It's Big Boss. Even before he was Big Boss he didn't make a peep about having his eye shot. When he woke up from a coma after 9 years to look at his peg hand, he wasn't fazed.

Did they confirm it is running on PC? It looks doable on console...

Yes it's running on PC. Kojima was playing the gameplay demo at GDC with a 360 controller connected to a PC. The Ground Zeroes demo was also running on PC. They don't have it running on consoles yet apparently.

Do we know if this is coming out for PC?

I would be so happy if it were. Overjoyed in fact... seems like such a shame to waste this nice new tech on the Sub-HD twins

Then, why doesn't kojima announce it for pc? It's the same with platinum, if you have a build for pc, why don't you release it?

Watching the gameplay trailer, and I mentioned this previously, at 4:45 after the fireball and that character is walking down the hallway, he says "the paaaain" as he disintegrates.

In the beginning of the trailer Big Boss is being defibrillated. When he's stabilized Miller says "What about him?". Who's he referring to? He's looking into the camera when he says that, so it could be the person you're playing with atm. Paz? Chico? Solid Snake?

Ah ok. The initial Ground Zeroes footage seemed more obviously running on PC... this GDC gameplay seems more optimised for console.

Because it's not that simple. Pretty much every single game has a "PC build" while in development. Yes, even portable titles. It's one thing to have a game running on a PC dev environment, and another thing to support a full PC release which would include compatibility testing, additiuonal QA, etc.

Just because devcode it's running on one set of PCs doesn't mean it's running on all PCs. More work would still need to be done to bring devcode to a full PC release, properly optimised for variable hardware configurations.

But also, as I said earlier, if a hypothetical PC version exists, and Ground Zeroes is also coming to next gen consoles, one would assume said PC version looked quite a bit better than "target current gen console" stuff they're showing. If Microsoft or Sony intend on showing Ground Zeroes/MGS5 at their conferences, they'd probably want to make a big deal out of how nicely the upgrade looks. And you're not going to be able to do that when a high end PC version has already been announced and shown months prior.

That may not be what's happening though. Just food for thought.

Loved the trailer, but I'm confused as hell and I've been playing Metal gear since the NES days.

100% in agreement. as soon as im done with my backlog i will begin all the MG games in release order starting with the NES releases. i wish i still had a PSP to play Portable Ops since i cannot play them on my Vita. It is necessary and overdue now.

Random Guess: Ground Zero starts with you in hospital and after you escape you flashback to the Ground Zero mission and play that part leading up to what ever put you in a coma. The rest of Phantom Pain part is the current day stuff.

So we still dont know if GZ and TPP are actually two games or just "two games in one" ?
