Metal Gear Solid V announced (PS360, open world)

kojima_drunk.jpg

This is how the party ended for Kojima.

I absolutely love what i'm seeing in this trailer. For my tastes, MGS 4 took itself too seriously (while being outlandishly unrealistic at the same time).

The atmosphere, animations, lighting, all just looks superb.

Can't wait to see which next gen console gets to "showcase" this at E3.

I was a part of that club until I stopped caring. Cam Clarke is a greater loss than Hayter, IMO. I was fucking livid when they announced there would be no Cam Clarke in MGS4.

I wasn't livid, but sorely disappointed. He's one of the reasons MGS1 was so great for me. I can kinda respect the reasoning, too, but still.

What I would like to know, is, in the trailer, at the beginning after the doctor say Snake is in a Coma. Miller say : What about him ? Looking at the camera (at us) like we were a protagonist.
I've asked this, people reckon its Ishmael
But Ishmael is supposed to be in Big Bosses head so why can Miller see him
And if Ishmael isn't in Big Bosses head then theres a reason to hide his face
And Big Boss(if it is big boss) asked who he was, but he came in with Miller and Big Boss
Either way he is an important character
I don't think hookhand Snake is who we think he is
I reckon he is the one Miller was asking about,

huh? I'm talking about Liquid's japanese voice actor passing away shortly before MGS4.

And that has fuckall to do with the western localization, which is where MGS is most popular anyway. Japanese voice actors passing away, while sad and unfortunate, should have nothing to do with the western localization.

I think he would've went with nano-machines as the excuse for a pitch-perfect Liquid imitation instead of hypnotic suggestion.

So at the point where Big Boss wakes from his coma, how old is Solid Snake?

Is it feasible for him to be in this game?

It depends on when Ground Zeroes takes place. Snake was born in '72. He'd be at least 11 years old in The Phantom Pain.

come on guys, the reason why Hayter is not voicing BB is quite simple.

That is not Big Boss, but someone who thinks/is dreaming/is pretending to be BB.

Has the whole joakim / kojima stunt has taught you nothing ? ?

(regardless, you are not really complaining you're getting Sutherland instead of Hayter, right ???)

Sutherland is NOT voicing Snake come on.

I'll say you're not really right there. It might not have to do with "localization" but the localization has to be respectful to the source. Liquid's Japanese VA passing away had a direct impact on the way Kojima decided to portray Ocelot's character in MGS4, especially with regards to the voice. The English version has to be based on that because it represents his vision of the game. Since this is a Japanese game, and Kojima writes and directs the game in Japanese, the VA passing away changed the way he approached it.

Science and shit. It can't be that Ocelot is The Sorrow's son and has psychic powers. No, boy. Can't have that, MGS is uber realistic, claim MGS fans.

I see your point, but I still think Cam Clarke would have been better than Zimmerman for the Western version. And if MGS 2 is anything to go by, Kojima really doesn't care about what happens with the western version.

The V stuff is certainly something crucial. Hideo goes for Roman numerals all of a sudden, and probably not because he thinks its just cool.

Actually the voice actor that passed away was Koji Totani, he voiced Revolver Ocelot, the Japanese VA for Liquid Ocelot is Banjō Ginga (Liquid Snake) and the English one is Patric Zimmerman (Revolver Ocelot).

How so? In MGS2, there was Liquid's voice in both the Japanese and English versions.

Okay I have brain damage then. Nevermind. I suck!

I have a hard time believing this. Why would some other guy be haunted by Volgin and the Boss's horse? Psycho Mantis power wouldn't find these fears in a random guy pretending to be Big Boss.

Are you guys sure the gameplay demo isn't next gen?? It looks so soft...and clean...and...I don't know...if it's this gen it's easily the best looking game.

I dont think that 3rd guy is Ishmael either.

The idea that we play as someone other than Big Boss makes sense when you think about it.

Theres a 3rd guy in that hospital. We are viewing the scene from their perspective which implies that we are playing as them. Big Boss and Miller are next to him so that means hes not either of them.

Assuming mystery 3rd guy also slips into a coma, then that means the playable character at the start of TPP is not Big Boss. Maybe some random dude injured at the end of GZ is brought in with Big Boss and, to protect Big Boss, they perform facial reconstruction on him to resemble Big Boss and throw off the enemy. Thats why his face is still bandaged up. Hes been out 9 years but the surgery might be recent.

I just dont know what to think.

I have shamed myself and my ancestors. There is only one way out of this.

Atone for your sins by buying Famitsu 360.

I kid, I kid.

Cam Clarke is boss, I miss him as Ocelot, or Liquid, or whatever he's called now. Zimmerman's portrayal of Liquid's character in 4 is cringeworthy.
"BROTHER!".

Nah, man. You don't have it in you for me to care.

I dunno. It does look really good, but really nothing above and beyond the current best looking games.

So the consensus seems to be that this will basically be MGS: Life on Mars and take place mostly inside Snakes/BB's/whoevers head?

Any explanations for the horn on his head at the end and/or the horns on Flaming-Volgin been floated yet?

Few things came to mind while I was trying to sleep last night.

The Bandages
Why would he have bandages 9 years later?
Some sort of surgery?
Lazy doctors? haha
Are we in fact playing Big Boss AND someone new who has no idea what's going on.

The hallucinations?
Could this be memories coming back in the form of hallucinations?
Does it have something to do with Psycho Mantis?
Has Big Boss lost his memory? It would make sense since he's been in a coma.
Could scientist's somehow implanted Big bosses memories into a random person, did they also make face surgery for the random person to resemble Big Boss?
Has VR got anything to do with this?

The Horn/Metallic Object
It did not appear to be there when Big Boss was dying at the beginning (Did Big Boss really come back to life?)
Did it happen after awakening from the Coma?
If they remove it will he die?

What IS going on!? haha

From his conversation with Naomi in MGS4:

Snake : So does the aging have something to do with FOXDIE, too?

Naomi : No. Your telomeres were intentionally set up to be short,
regardless of the age of the original. One of the genes that
inhibit reproduction and aging - the Klotho gene - was
intentionally mutated as well. But more importantly, your
chromosomes, like Liquid's... Were provided with terminator
genes to prevent them from making copies.

Snake : Why?

Naomi : You are clones created for one purpose - war. And so in
order to prevent you from being abused by clients or stolen
by the enemy... They shortened your lifespan and removed
your ability to reproduce. It was a safety device to ensure
that the seed of Big Boss didn't end up in the hands of
others. The reason you're aging so rapidly isn't because of
disease, or faulty research, or FOXDIE. It's how you were
born. It's your natural lifespan.

Snake : The truth, Naomi. How long is my body going to hold out?

Naomi : Your cells, blood, organs, nerves, skeletal system, muscle
tissue... Every part of your body is aging rapidly. An
ordinary man wouldn't even be standing by now.

What consensus? We're puppets. I'd be more inclined to believe that the tutorial for MGSV will be a hallucination and then you wake up and the game will start, but that's all.

I just dont know what to think.

I'm getting a huge Gray Fox vibe from this. Didn't Fox get his ears and nose cut off or something? That would justify why he stood by Big Boss's side for those 9 years and the face bandage. Also, what if Gray Fox's injury happened as a result of the battle at Mother Base and is why Kaz is asking if Fox is ok?

Les Enfants Terribles project was in 1972 so Liquid would have the same age as Solid since they are twin. Solidus came a year later. He was 28 years old when he became president of the United States in 2001 according to MGS2. I doubt it's Solid/Liquid/Solidus as the first two would be around 12 while the last one should one year younger. Even if Solidus ages faster, he can't be looking 50 years old in 1981-1982 at 11-12 yo. Kojima already did worse, though I suppose.

Actually, you might be on to something here, don't know if somebody posted this already (haven't read the whole thread) but apparently MGSV and Ground Zeroes are still said to be different games

http://www.siliconera.com/2013/03/2...r-solid-ground-zeroes-are-two-separate-games/

Is there a thread to talk about the fox engine and the research Kojima and his team has done? I'm more interested in that than talking about MGS5. What they have done is amazing. The game looks like its from another generation even though it was made for current gen.

It was odd when he asks "how's he doing" while gesturing and staring at the camera.

Yes, I think there's definitely a third person with them. Even the way the camera moves during this scene makes me think that we are seeing it from the eyes of the third person.
Maybe Chico they rescued ? Or someone else.
The bandaged guy can be Chico (or that guy they rescued), since nine years have passed, he probably grew...

But somehow I have the feeling that we do not play as the real Big Boss...
The guy with the missing arm, with Big Boss' face, has no scar shaped as a snake on his chest.
Kojima, wouldn't ignore this important detail, as the scar is also present in Peace Walker.
(Peace Walker : http://i1.ytimg.com/vi/XB4S4qn-cAA/mqdefault.jpg)
Maybe I'm stretching this a bit and the scar is there but maybe that's why we only see him most of the time from the back or crawling.

Ishmael is Big Boss, maybe trying to hide or escape something, by switching identity.
hence making the other one, the phantom.
The phantom pain making reference to the pain of losing his arm and the pain of being someone else.
I'm thinking a kind of Kagemusha story.
Two phantoms are born : the real big boss who by hiding becomes a ghost and the decoy who's big boss' shadow/phantom.

Ishmael :
The name has come to symbolize orphans, exiles, and social outcasts[28] — in the opening paragraph of Moby-Dick, Ishmael tells the reader that he has turned to the sea out of a feeling of alienation from human society. In the last line of the book, Ishmael also refers to himself symbolically as an orphan, which maintains the Biblical connection and emphasizes the representation of outcasts.

Big boss being the outcast.

And, I don't think the kid (Mantis ?) is fucking with Snake, but maybe helping him escape, as the whale attacks the helicopter, which probably is bringing reinforcements for whoever is attacking the hospital, hence creating a diversion for Snake to escape. Plus who seems to be Ocelot helps him.
Plus, maybe, all these hallucinations about Volgin, the burning Raikov, etc... Is mantis fucking with the fake big boss head to make him believe he really is Big Boss.
The petals and everything is part of Big Boss' memory after all.
