Metal Gear Solid V announced (PS360, open world)

Snake was physically old in MGS4, too, and he was still David Hayter.

Big Big Boss looks and sounds like a different person as he gets older. Hence the new voice actor as his face starts to resemble his elderly self more in The Phantom Pain.

Yes, that is likely. As I mentioned, I don't think the decision to not use Hayter (if true and not a Kojima stunt as you never know) would be for a story purpose, like Big Boss' voice changing as he got older. I don't think that they would arbitrarily decide against Hayter as he's established in the universe.

Kojima could be making the switch with an eventual MG1 remake in mind.

It'd be interesting, I think, if you build up Outer Heaven in this game, and how well you do it would affect the difficulty of a potential remake of the original, where you have to infiltrate the fortress as Solid Snake. There'd be a savegame import function, which imports all your soldiers and progress. And you'd have to fight those soldiers as Snake and deal with the defenses you put up as Big Boss. Not gonna happen, but it'd be pretty cool.

I find it weird Snake don't talk much or at all, and the voice at the end isn't evem coming from Snake, sounds like Miller too
And the GDC demo didn't have the English voice over for "kept you waiting huh" and the presenter tried to do the voice and apologize for the bad impression of Snake
Also, ALSO lol Hayter ask us how we would feel if he didn't do the voice a month ago and now he is acting all surprised

i think they might not have even sorted out voicework yet they just got somebody to record lines for demo and currently doing it now. We don't have a release date so it could be early in production still

From my PoV it was a side game so the fact it even got one reference means it was considered canon.

About the interpretation, an interesting observation, but there's no evidence to support Kojima hated the game and he desperately ("Finally we can..") wanted to make it non canon. The best he could do was to NOT reference it.
True, but he certainly doesn't reference it beyond that line... Big Boss isn't over the Boss' death anymore, the game is promoted as the sequel to Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater...

Anyway, I certainly agree that the last time they mentioned Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops, it was said to be canon... It's just that it's been a while, and they keep skipping/ignoring it altogether, now. "The Metal Gear Techô 2012 covers all 7 games of the series, from the first Metal Gear to Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker! What do you mean, 'there should be 8 of those'?" "The Metal Gear Solid Collection! Let's all celebrate the conspicuous absence of Portable Ops!"

Just saw the trailer. Looks fucking amazing.

However, I remain skeptical. The graphics look too good for current gen. They look more akin to PS3.5 if I'm really honest.

I'm hoping this is indeed a cross-gen game. I would buy this at 1080p 60fps.

Nevertheless, if this trailer is a true representation of the game on the PS360, then colour me impressed. MGSV simply looks like one of the best looking games ever.

I'd understand that IF other characters didn't talk and was kinda lip synced too
And I've watch the trailer several times now and the only time he does say anything you can barely hear him

PS4 downscaled like Beyond I reckon

Just spitballing here, I don't know man. But I was listening to Garbage's track again because Kojima tweeted that the track deserves special attention for its meaning, and I heard these lyrics at the end:

We are not your kind of people.
Won't be cast as demons,
Creatures you despise.

Might explain the horn on Big Boss' forehead - he is seen as a demon for what he did, and is a creature despised by the world.

Probably mentioned already in this thread, but it moves so fast it's hard to keep up.

Not to mention that the apparent Volgin appearances, he seems to have horns.

Trailer was running on PC, so PS3/360 versions will probably be downgraded from that.

So 360 owners are going in without playing mgs4? I thought for sure that they would have released a multidisc port by now.

For this game i'm sure most 360 owners are former PS owners/also have a PS3 and already played the MGS series. The MG games are largely a playstation fanbase.

Not saying there aren't a few 360 owners who will going into this game a MGS virgin. :]

Another Big Boss game. Good Lord when are we gonna get Solid Snake back.

With that being said, I'll be buying day 1.

Gonna get the [my] hype train started by playing Twin Snakes this weekend

Snake's role in the series ended with MGS4. At best, I'd wager that if he did return, it'd be in a remake of MG1 and 2.

Also, someone on Gamefaqs posted an idea which would be awesome. Have the game end with a radio transmission from Big Boss to Solid Snake commencing Operation Intrude N313, with Hayter voicing Snake. Would be drool-inducing.

So all we're going to [continue] to get are prequels involving Big Boss? I mean, this is Kojima I'm sure he can find a way to allow Snake to grace us several times more. Plus, didn't he recently say he wasn't done with Solid Snake?

Maybe I'm biased but I am just not a Big Boss fan at all and simply tolerate him for my love of the MGS series. I enjoyed MGS3 but I hated the fact that I had to control him lol. Same goes for Raiden in MGS2

EDIT: That ending would be epic. Remakes of MG1 and 2 would make a TON of sense.

They still used 2 different voice actors in the JP version of MGS4 smartass.

just let snake die with dignity. that's hard to say after the turd that was mgs4 though.

his role in MGS2 was amazing. they made him out to be a legendary figure. and raiden was like us, so when snake finally teams up with you it got us all hype (I'd imagine).

start using new characters.

Figured as much. That's a shame.

I'm guessing we will see a similar downgrade from MGS4 on the PS3 dev kit to the MGS4 final product.

They have stressed numerous times before that the PC they are running it on is scaled to the PS360 specs.

The reason they are showing these previews on PC is because they make games on PC first and port them later to PS360.

There was a downgrade in MGS4 because Sony downgraded the PS3's specs, nothing to do with KojiPro.

I personally wouldn't mind some short episodes where you get to see what Philanthropy got up to in-between games, but they let Snake bow out gracefully with 4. I'd personally hope for a remake of Metal Gear 1 and 2 as one game, then a new IP from Kojima, or failing that, a reboot of the Metal Gear series, with new characters and such. People have suggested a game where you play as The Boss in WW2 as well. Could be interesting, with back to basics stealth.

Not sure if it's been discussed, but I wonder if these will have online play, and if so, what kind. More like PW, more like MGO, something different, blah blah.

Online mode would soften the blow of a 'prologue' style disc release for Ground Zeroes. XOF vs. Diamond Dogs vs. MSF.

Or they are gearing up for a future installment featuring them both, Big Boss was Snake's mentor after all. Might as well get the issue out of the way now.

Apparently they're doing an all out MGO type situation with another team handling it

WOW

I can kinda see this given how good God of War: Ascension looks.

I can comfortably be hyped for PS4 based on what's shown in the FOX Engine. If that's current gen power, then next gen power pushing more detail than THAT will be pretty damn breathtaking . . .

It's best to avoid this one anyway.

Why is it best to avoid MGS4? The story is out there (then again what MGS isn't), but the gameplay is fucking brilliant and it is one of the most polished games this gen. If you don't like MGS4s gameplay I don't know what you're doing in this thread.

So... I wonder if this game will show up on Vita. You know, Transfarring and all? :,)

Kojima did say every game of his on the FOX Engine will have a Vita version (with Transfarring).

Things could have changed since then though.

On a random note, supernatural Metal Gear is best Metal Gear.

I wish Kojima would do whatever it takes to put the Metal Gear Solid Theme back in 5.

Yes. Same here. Considering how much it's iconic and loved by the fans, I don't get why Konami is simply not just giving the rights owners a bunch of money to get the licence to use it in their game. They have the money for it, so just fucking do it already.

Doesn't the FOX Engine also focus on lighting and making more realistic scenes with less polygons? That sounds like something that the Vita would have an easier time handling.

But you'd think there would have been a Vita version announced if Kojima was sticking with the above statement. :(

I know allot of people were saying that snakes new hand was from Zadornov, but its the wrong hand. Snakes is his right and Zadornoz's is the left. Looks very similar though. Just thought id share.

You just have to unbolt the fingers and stick then them the other way around. And maybe swap the thumb to the other side somehow. But it could be a new russian hand that Ocelot gets him or something.

I think he and Kojima have had confrontations in the past for which he's had to apologize -- criticizing Kojima's writing (which, to be fair, isn't that hard to do) and some of the directions the plot has gone in. It didn't seem like anything major though, and I don't mean to make more of it than it deserves, but it definitely happened.

And we all know Kojima loves Hollywood star power. This one isn't a particularly hard choice to make either, because all Snake is is a gravelly voice. It's hard to find a person that can't do a pretty good Hayter impression. I'd say other voices like Ocelot or Liquid would be more difficult to jettison.

He still did PW after all of that. They could've changed to Doyle then and there, or anyone else.

I agree with the others that think this is a little too suspicious. He would've said something before the GDC, wouldn't he? I mean... he changed his twitter avatar to Snake right after the VGAs reveal so he KNEW what was going on, and still didn't say a thing.

That GZ's trailer was in Japanese with Akio Otsuka and this one is only in English with a different actor is also truly suspicious. I think people might be onto something with the whole face change/cloning/impersonating/general mindfucking stuff.

I know someone mentioned it earlier, but people in real life have been known to grow horns made of keratin (aka the stuff comprising your nails). Could be what's coming out of Big Boss' head. Some believe the horns are caused by radiation.
