I haven't been following this thread in detail, so I apologize if it's been mentioned before, but the player experiences the story through the eyes (and ears) of Big Boss, and even though some of the situations seem impossible for one person to be in two places at once (Skull Face talking to Chico while Big Boss just entered the area or Skull Face erasing the XOF logo and boarding the chopper while Big Boss rescues Paz), do you ever hear anyone really address the existence of Skull Face, except for the player's viewing of cutscenes and listening to tapes? Remember, even in Ground Zeroes, Skull Face uses exact Big Boss phrases when talking to Chico.

That's a great fucking post. I love your line of thinking!

However, there are a couple of things in GZ that I think undermine Skullface literally being Big Boss (outside of the impossible situations and voice recordings). I don't think it necessarily affects your overall point, but they do suggest that Skullface is real at some point:

1) A number of guards make reference to the Black Ops team. One pair reference Skullface directly, mentioning his "sawed off lever-action rifle". It could be a red herring, it could be a weapon Big Boss adopts in his Skullface persona, but to me It suggests the foreshadowing of an Ocelot/Olga style boss battle at some point in TPP which could lead to his death.

2) Chico is a pretty compelling argument on his own. Skullface speaks to him in Big Boss-isms and he is initially scared when Big Boss himself comes to rescue him.

However, Prisoner 12282 has a very similar experience to Chico (Big Boss-isms) and isn't scared when rescued. He even says he saw Skullface's face, although he can't remember it. This could support the Skullface is Big Boss theory, if it weren't for the fact that he recognises and clearly remembers Big Boss when rescued, which seems a little incongruous, if not quite damning.

I think Skullface quoting Big Boss has more to it than him literally being Big Boss. As a character aware of the power of language, using Big Boss' words as weapons is a way of taking on his aspect. I'm not quite sure what this suggests at this point, but literally being him seems almost crass considering the lofty concepts Kojima is throwing about.

3) Paz isn't scared of Big Boss when he rescues her either, and she arguably spent the most time with Skullface. Tellingly, the post-credit sting has this exchange:

Paz: This will save Big Boss?
Skull Face: It may.

The post-credit sting, as it has always been, is not from the main characters perspective and is something they often aren't aware of. They are specifically for the player, acting as a reversal or dramatic irony. If Paz was faced with Big Boss as Skullface, her asking this question becomes problematic.

Like I say, none of this is hard and fast, just my interpretation of events. I do believe that Big Boss will be haunted by a Skullface hallucination (amongst others), but the above (along with the impossible situations and voice recordings, which are hard to ignore) is why I believe he has to be real at some point rather than entirely a figment of BB's psychosis/split personality.

Yeah. I can't remember if he explicity says he'd kill him, but he certainly suggests to Chico that he should be afraid of Big Boss coming after him.

I agree, I think the psychological element of this game may resolve around Skull Face's existence or not. However, I think there's enough evidence and narrative in GZ to prove that he was actually there.

Then you have the quotes from E3 2015

"I was born in a small village. I was still a child when we were raided by soldiers - foreign soldiers. Torn from my elders I was made to speak their language. With each new post my masters changed along with the words they made me speak. With each change - I changed too. My thoughts, personality, How I saw right and wrong... Words Can Kill." - Skullface

"America is a country of ;liberty. A meeting of immigrants. Instead of simply assimilating its citizens live alongside others. So the major sought a system that used information: Words - To control the subconscious." - Skullface

It's becoming apparent that language is going to be one of the key themes of TPP, and how it's used to control the population. Big Boss is known to be a charismatic leader, so it may be reasonable to assume that the game analyses his influence over people, and the same use of phrases used by Big Boss/Skull Face may suggest there's a link between them. Then again, Skullface has suggested that he knew Big Boss, so he may be deliberately quoting him.

I was watching the E3 2013 trailer and I found this.

[RED TEXT] The word 'ghost' is used to describe Skullface. In one sense, it could be literal and he doesn't exist and haunts Big Boss, or it could mean that he is hidden and acts without being seen. [/red text]

Sorry guys for going pythonselkan on you.

Nothing like PythonSelkan. For one, in makes sense.

So how many sides is Ocelot on? I've lost count.

Yup, they just have it on differently because of the strap. So now I think the second Liquid at the end could be Mantis with his illusions (hell he's floating behind
fire Volgin
in the second trailer), and them being in the
Ocelot Unit
makes so much sense if that is what happens because they're on the same side in MGS1 as well.

Wait, why
Ocelot unit
? I recall Liquid being part of the British Parachute Regiment, which uses red berets

They've done this with all the gameplay previews for MGSV so far. Always shown on the floor and then about a week or so later we get direct feed video of it once they re-record everything in the studio.

If anyone is intrested the ps4 bundle is live on amazon.fr at a price of 460 euros For the red ps4 and the day one edition of the game.

That sounds plausible but I was thinking this game will show us how the Sons of Big Boss start or at least a part of that group, particularly Liquid and Mantis because we know they're definitely in the game. Ocelot was also part of that group in MGS1 as well so I think there's going to be some kind of relationship being formed by those three. And also he was in the SAS in the 90s during the first Gulf War which is years before TPP (plus he's only a 12 year old).

I am totally getting some Interstellar vibes from this. I'd bet Kojima was a fan of the movie and its soundtrack and wanted something similar for this trailer.

They did say yesterday that we would get some new gameplay footage today. They always let us watch a good play through of their E3 demos!
