Metal Gear Solid V: Gamescom Gameplay Demo

Hold them up and have them lay down. They will only then get up in response to alarm.

Or, perform a cqc combo on them. In ground zeroes, this keeps them knocked out indefinitely until awakened by others.

No but I mean like really get rid of them all together like throwing them off a cliff does. That doesn't count as a kill for whatever reason.

Also you're right about the hold up keeping them down until a base alert or someone comes to get them, but the CQC combo is 4 minutes iirc.

I used to hold them down a lot but now I just tranq and run. This Snake's gotta go fast.

Helps with improving the aim as well.

the 500+ hour mgs stream marathon has kept my mind busy, but there are those momets where I am weak before I sleep tempting to look, DONT DO IT DAMN IT *slaps self*

When you are feeling weak, just think of Kojima locked up in his office being fed on scraps. Think of the sacrifices he has made for us all. *so many tears*

Yeah i know the guide has leaked and people get all the information from it, AFAIK the game itself hasn't leaked yet, that's why i said even the guide is out people still have a hard time putting the complete puzzle together thanks to KojiPro's QUALITY CONTROL.
From the looks of it, the guide is actually full of story spoilers. Including secrets, so it's odd that they put "quality control" thing in there.

That's a really wise choice.

But let it be known that once embargo goes down that it might be your way to stop going to the spoiler thread just in case! Make sure you go through this thread as to avoid a potential review that accidentally adds in a spoiler!

Fuck that spoiler thread!

I'm going to have to avoid more than Neogaf honestly. Gaming sites, youtube, twitter. Even Google news, because it knows I like gaming. I need a cave to move into.

Well it says: "QUALITY CONTROL: Carefully designed to avoid unnecessary story spoilers."

A slam is four minutes iirc, but a combo is forever.

Video I saw stated cqc combo was the same as a wall slam at 4 minutes but I dunno.

I never really counted the minutes but a quick google search says Tranq is around 5 minutes and the Combo lasts for 30 minutes, both on normal. Combo is more effective for keeping enemies down if you're not afraid of getting caught that is. It's useful when you go one on one I guess.

Right. As such, it probably doesn't detail cutscenes that have no relevance to gameplay.

But I'm sure it'll still list boss battles, perhaps detail mission tied to specific scenarios (like if you have to rescue a character, or are imprisoned yourself, or whatever), and give a good idea of the sequence of the events we've seen in the trailers. So whilst it isn't quite like having the game uploaded to YouTube (which I'm sure will be the case in the coming days) it isn't as bad as it could be.

I wonder what constitutes as unnecessary when the most important stuff is in there, who knows. Also remember guys, tampermokey+hide thread if you truly wanna avoid the spoiler thread. I'd hate to click on it by mistake.

I think a necessary story spoiler is if you have to fight Character A in a boss fight and kill that character, it's going to spoil that for you because the guide needs to explain the strategy to beat that boss. An unnecessary spoiler would be something like the DARPA Chief dying after meeting Snake in MGS1. The guide would probably just refer to it as, "After the cut scene where Snake talks to the DARPA Chief, exit his cell..."

They won't be able to make everyone happy though because everyone has a different definition of spoiler. The safest bet is to play through the game the first time without the help of a guide, then go through all the missions again and use the guide to help S-rank all of them and find all the secrets.

Probably like a spoiler free guide where the current chapter doesn't mention anything about what's ahead or what you may/may not see in the future.

Dang, so much different info regarding times. Oh well doesn't matter too much.

Explosive barrel kills dont count as kills.

Weird as well.

From what I can see, the unnecessary spoilers refer to specific story things that don't impact gameplay at all. So if you happen to play the entire game as Sonny playing through a VR mission, it doesn't state that anywhere and just refers to you as Big Boss.

Did you see the first E3 trailer for it? Barring the obvious similarities to the final version, it seemed quite a bit more open. Definitely would've been interesting.

Man, that takes me back.

I remember the IGN boards back then, the last part of the trailer with the MGS theme was leaked days before E3, people were losing their minds:

"Solid Snake's in the jungle eating snakes WTF?!"

"He loses his eye, just like Big Boss!"

"I bet that's Big Boss we play as!"

"This is fake."

Then I had to spend 5hrs downloading the trailer on my 56k internet. Good times. I still have the PSM DVD with all the MGS3 trailers on it.

I fall for spoiler threads, a lot. This time, I shall hold strong! I'm probably not getting the game any time soon, but I REFUSE TO FALL

Hype... Hype never changes

Is there a way to permanently eliminate guards without it counting as a kill besides throwing them off a cliff?

If you shoot a guard a given amount of times (it depends on the weapon, obviously), he'll fall to the ground and eventually die from bleeding. Very useful in reflex mode when you don't have any tranq rounds, since the guard won't trigger an alert when he's in that state.

And yeah, it doesn't count as a kill.

I guess at this rate Sunday will be my last day before I attempt to blackout my media viewing, sticking to safe places like Steam indie games in offline mode, my handhelds, or video services sans YouTube and Twitch.

Shit my ps4 is acting so weird lately. Hard lockups, failures to rebuild the database. Wtf I hope it doesnt break before mgsv comes out.

5PM PST on Sunday at dailydot.com :) Welcoming gameplay questions until I board the plane.

Probably a silly one but feel I should ask, does it rain in the Afghanistan region of the game (without the manipulation device)? Also, if you can answer, can you say how many bionic arm variants you have come across thus far? How awesome does the chopper interior look at night? (Looked pretty sweet in some off-screen shots!) Thank you! :)

I remember dust storms, but no rain.

I had three arms after 35 hours in.

It looks just fine at night. More impressive was the steady accumulation of photos and documents that would progressively grow on the interior sides and ceiling of the chopper. Very scrapbooky

Did you play with controller or Mouse and Keyboard?

If controller, Was it improved from Ground Zeroes, as was stated in one of the gameplay videos?

If Keyboard and Mouse, Was there really bad acceleration/lagging controls when zoomed in very far? I don't know how to explain it, but that was my only negative with GZ Mouse controls.

Also, hope it's not too much to ask, but if you've played Peace Walker, can you tell how you felt about TPP in general comparatively?

Replaying Ground Zeroes on pc. Nothing makes me madder than devs not adding the option to change the button prompts to the Playstation ones. Nearly every game is like this, even though most of them are on both platforms. I mean it's not a huge problem as I'm used to the xbox controller, but it's a an annoyance to my OCD and it can't be that hard to implement.

Wow, awesome! Thank you! ^_^ (Oh and have a safe flight!)

i hate seeing the spoiler thread so high...FFFFUUUUUUUUUUU ahhhh

Right there with you.

I'm afraid of clicking it by accident.

I'm envious that people are discussing things so vital to plot.

I just want to see the mysteries and people's reactions to them.

But hey, after years of waiting, less than 2 weeks is nothing.

Yeah.

I was personally rotating throught NeoGAF, Reddit, and YouTube whilst playing through the MGS series, but now I'm at the final stages of Peace Walker and I can no longer trust Reddit. This thread is my lifeblood for the next week.
