Metal Gear Solid V: Gamescom Gameplay Demo

Watching this, I'm a bit scared about all the minutiae we'll have to manage. I'm wondering if this game is gonna feel more like work than play.

For example, I don't want to be forced to take a shower. Just make the "shower" mechanic happen automatically whenever I return to base. It just seems like the game is going to have a ton of chores to do that take me away from the action.

And this coming from someone who loves RPG leveling systems (when they are done well).

In all the previews so far I haven't heard anyone complain about micro managing. I mean you're not "forced" to take a shower, it'd just help :P

Ocelot will take care of you.

In GZ on top of it just getting repetative, Kaz talks over guard conversations and even briefing tapes. I'd hope it's been fixed after they acknowledged it.

You know, I used to think When MGS went from MGS1 to MGS2/2/4, I figured they just made up the whole stuff with the Patriots and the original members and AI stuff, but MGS1 sets up the story much more than I expected.

I just hope reviewers take their time and think about EVERYTHING this game has to offer, for example blood and dirt sticks on you until you wash it off

or the AI will adapt to the player's actions and tries to conter them, for example if you do a lot of headshots in that mission and you replay said mission later they will now wear helmets.

Also that the game runs at rock solid 60 fps. According to that spanish review the game didn't drop a single frame, no matter if there were huge explosions, or many people on screen the framerate was always constant. And that is mighty impressive and defintely deserves praise.

Just take your time and don't rush it, i wouldn't mind if there were lots of "Work in progress" reviews on sunday.

Did anybody else notice on the Gamescom demo of MGSV, the player had a limited number of Fultons to use? I think it started off at 11. I'm really glad this is a part of the game. I did not like the idea of having money-based Fultons because the economy can likely be broken (like every game) and you'd end up being able to do essentially infinite Fultons. Being able to pick a base clean of soldiers and resources with Fultons would just be too silly and break the immersion. It would also take away the need to be selective about what you do and do not take.

A framerate doesn't deserve praise. It's praise comes in how it impacts the gameplay.

And the reviews I've seen have cited its great gameplay.

Hot sauce!

Can you tell us if you are liking it or not?
Hmm it'd be tacky to break embargo but I can certainly say I played two hours or so at an event in May and absolutely loved what I saw then: the structure, the style, the technical accomplishments, the drastic changes from typical Metal Gear formula -- everything.

What?Of course it does especially if it is a stable 60 on an open world game.

I think of the framerate of a game as a supporting element. So you might say "the framerate makes the gameplay really smooth", but saying "wow, 60fps in an open world" is sort of ... meaningless.

Have any of your soldiers had any bowel issues?

I expect that some of the biggest gaming websites (gamespot, eurogamer, and gametrailers) will not publish their reviews tomorrow , maybe they will publish previews just like Kotaku.

Does it show this in game anywhere? I've done some of this but the game seems to only display the your best playthrough of a mission. I redid all the things in that link just to be sure but it's still not visible in the records that I did it AFAIK.

In the play records you can check if you got the prisoners by looking at the prisoner count it shows -- though, it's the total amount so it counts if you've gotten the same prisoners again as well. The VIPs/Persons of Interest (like Glaz and Palitz) aren't recorded at all in play records so you just have to know in your head if you got them or not.

There's an achievement (at least on Steam) for extracting them both. There are achievements for rescuing prisoners, as well, so you can use those as an indicator.

Awesome. Thanks! Look forward to reading your preview.

Well the list has extracting both unique NPCs in the intel mission but neither show up in the records.

I felt that way too at first, but after playing Peace Walker, I have no such worries. You can extract all the soldiers you want, but most of the time you'll get low rank ones. A base full of these will get you nowhere.

Yeah, if you playing PW proper you AREN'T fultoning everyone as it get's you absolutely nowhere.
Man, I swear i'm going to be playing MGSV for the rest of the year (^____^)

You can take resources besides soldiers in TPP.

Enjoy the ride guys. Tomorrow night reviews will start dropping and on Tuesday we get the last Kojima directed MGS trailer. After that it's just playing the waiting game.

I just want to thank Kojima and his team for this amazing series. For having us speculate on each game up until release. No other series really does that. This community is one of a kind and this is the last ride.

Damn, didn't know the embargo was tomorrow (O___o)

I'm afraid about the reviews, I hope most of them are 90's and high 80's , I was kinda disappointed about the 17/20 of Jeux Magazine, I know 85% is not bad but still... I'm not sure if I should take seriously their review because they rated 19/20 = 95% Watch Dogs. The reviews will not affect my decision from buying the game, I'm up to date with the series and love not only the story but also the gameplay. But I really want great reviews for the last MGS.

if I'm not mistaken the only two reviews we have are :

Jeux Mag : 17/20 = 85%
Hobby Consolas : 97/100 = 97%

For now, overall = 91%

I think there should be a thread created to simply say thank you to Kojima and every single person that has worked on giving us the MGS series for all these years. I don't know maybe someone could send him all the posts eventually.

I'm bored and it shows haha.

What time does the embargo lift?
