Metal Gear Solid V: Gamescom Gameplay Demo

I'm gonna go ahead and say, after playing peace walker, I really hope There's a banana in Phantom pain.

If you've seen some big blue bags hanging up in the gc demo and screenshots of Africa, those are for growing bananas in. sooo hopefully!

Needs new function where you can eat the banana and use the skin as a throwable weapon.

It's hilarious that this doesn't seem that far fetched in a series that allows such...creative freedom with it's cardboard boxes.

In case anyone's curious: I need a lot more time before I write a full review, but we'll have a meaty impressions piece up on Kotaku tomorrow night, then maybe an AMA on Monday. Review will be closer to release day.

I keep on clicking on that stupid ass spoiler thread on accident. I hate it.

I click on it intentionally from time to time even though I don't really want to spoil the game, and I'm fairly certain nobody has any clue as to what's going on in the story yet. Many theories, no solid evidence, people just throwing vague quotes around and applying their own meaning.

At least until tomorrow night/Monday morning, I think we're safe from any real spoilers.

Hot sauce!

Can you tell us if you are liking it or not?

What's the highest difficulty you can play on the 1st time through? I don't think I want to play on hard and get annoyed by how far enemies see you...

When reviews start dropping, I'm foreseeing a lot of pitchforks coming out for any scores below 9/10. I already have my popcorn ready.

I obviously haven't played it, but based on the impressions I have seen, I could see it getting a fair few 8/10's. But, as you've said, I'm sure people will act irrationally regardless.

"They gave Kojima's last game an 8 out of 10? That's it, I'm never reading a ________ review again"

"Hey, look, they gave Assassin's Creed Unity an 8 out of 10 too. lol"

Ugh.

Ugh.

Pretty much. I'm already expecting MGSV to be polarizing amongst MGS fans, I can only imagine what some of the reviews are going to be like.

Yup, it's going to be funny. I already saw a few pitchforks over some French reviews just because they gave it a lower score than other games...

It seems like it will get pretty decent reviews from all these impressions we're getting, but I'm sure some MGS fans will find a way to fiddle themselves regardless.

Hopefully review whining can have a thread dedicated to it, it was bad enough the other day.

I think the Japanese guys said there's only one the first time through. There's always the chicken hat for beginners...

I doubt this game will get anything below a 9 from serious reviewers. No other developer comes close to detail, presentation and gameplay

Yeah, but, theres the story of course. And how everything comes together. I'd like to see low scores just to read why they didn't like it. Similar to Batman, there could be an element to the game that divides reviewers.

Is it known what transfers from ground zeroes? Want to make sure I've got what I can/want to get

Well there is this.

In addition, anyone that purchases GROUND ZEROES will be able to unlock exclusive content within the game to carry-over to THE PHANTOM PAIN. Prisoners of war and VIPs rescued in GROUND ZEROS will be added to the Mother Base staff in THE PHANTOM PAIN, providing GROUND ZEROES players an early in-game advantage; character skins will also be able to be carried over.

So from what we know there is a more "regular" number of cutscenes... but a lot of tape to listen to to understand the plot.
Looking at a static menu for long times to listen to stuff could really turn off people.

You can listen to tapes during gameplay, too.

It depends on how the game presents the tapes to the player. If they prompt the player with the option to listen to specific at appropriate moments during the gameplay it could be a good alternative to the codec.

You press L1 for more information.
That's what I mean. He doesn't have to say a word until I press L1, yet he talks as soon as you approach a new area or something happens, or if you spot the target or whatever. I want to disable him constantly giving me this feedback, that's what I'm trying to say.

Its kind of a shame we will never get a full remake of the MSX games.

After so many Big Boss games, finally getting to see Solid Snake versus Big Boss would be rad. I bet they could make some real good trailers out of it.

You would really need to toss out a lot of the original script to make it work these days though. Like leaving the Big Boss reveal until the very end is a bit pointless since it would be a big selling point of the game. It would make sense to maybe put it earlier in the story just give more time for Big Boss and Snake beef.

Maybe you make it like Snake Eater and Operation Intrude N312 is a shorter tutorial like mission the Virtues mission and Zanzibarland is the real meat and potatos.

I dunno. Just idol thoughts. None of that is ever happening now unless its a pachinko machine.

My theory is that the end of this game IS a remake of Metal Gear 1 and 2, just rewritten to more appropriately suit the game, and done very quickly because there's less to see from Big Boss's perspective.

Sorry buddy, I am not sure. Will just have to wait until reviews or actual copies come out.

There's been no word on if we'll be able to shut him up. Considering how many people complained about him in GZ, they be stupid not to allow it.

Same with the idroid voice, I'm already annoyed by it and I haven't even played the game, ffs!

The devs did acknowledge the criticism of Kaz in Ground Zeroes and I'm pretty sure they said they would be looking into it for TPP, but I've yet to hear anyone say if they've dialed it back.

True, they could also manage to do it like that. As long as you are not too occupied by the game (like in the middle of an enemy camp) you could manage to listen to tapes.

We can only hope it only does this for each "first time you see x" and then he shut up.
