Metal Gear Solid V - PC vs. PS4 screenshot comparison

We need a thread posting a comparison between PS4 and XB1 versions of a game, but in reality its a PC vs PS4 comparison. Would make for some great entertainment.

This would be hilarious.

I'm going to neatly sidestep the predictable reactions of some PS4 fans that can detect huge differences from a mile away in PS4/XB1 threads but become blind as bats the minute they step into a PS4/PC thread. What really makes me happy in the case of Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes (and I assume Phantom Pain) is that a series that has been absent for so long from PC (Metal Gear Rising notwithstanding) is back in a really impressive way. Not as a token port but as an apparently well-crafted version with many PC-specific enhancements and graphical effects. I believe this speaks volumes on the current strength of the PC market. Metal Gear Solid's PC success (of which I am sure) will encourage even more japanese devs to bring their games over to PC. These are truly awesome times we live in, my PC gaming brethren.

Yep. I'm so looking forward to more Japanese games on PC. The PC market is getting better and better.

This is what makes the opinions of many here worth less than dirt. We JUST had a massive thread on the foliage differences between the PS4 and XB1 differences in GTAV next gen.

Yet somehow, clear, noticeable improvements in the PC version of MGSV GZ are met with suspicion and willful ignorance.

You can't even make this stuff up any more.

The PC sexyness for GTAV is going to be another thread full of laughs and embarrassment, I can assure of that.

For me the more amusing thing is that yesterday a bunch of people including myself were already happily looking at the low resolution comparison shots from a stream that Kojima showed, and none of this bickering happened - then the OP made this thread with the proper shots with those words "PC vs PS4".

This is the result. And yes following the ridiculous "grassgate" stuff, it is just ridiculous

Depending on the fan, those(insert color here)shades get put on the moment they enter a thread in which they can't win.

The LOD difference is huge to me, no more shitty pop-ins.

Good, I did my part.

I'm so happy it meant something. That's why I bought Revengeance day one (actually no, I pre-ordered), and bought Valkyria Chronicles, even though I figure I'll never get around to playing that. I guess a lesser extent, FF XIII counts too, that (upcoming?) patch to add proper 1080p came about because we made things clear with our pockets, and explaining specifically we have issue with.

As time goes on, things can only get better if we continue on this path. I bought a PS4 mainly for MGS V, but now I'm no longer gonna double dip, and get it only on PC.

Hopefully this does well enough that they see fit to release the previous games in the series on PC.

I really hope Final Fantasy XV comes to PC on day 1. PLEASE SQUARE

Amen to that.

That's the key and when we are talking about Japanese developers not super experienced with PC development, this becomes something worth noting.

Also worth praising is that they're actively talking with people right on the game's Steam forum, asking what features are most wanted and straight up answering questions. Compare that to how for example Bethesda handled the Evil Within port.

Actually thinking about it I might double dip right away just because of that.

Saw that ban coming a mile away. That was a fun meltdown to witness.

Anywho, glad to see a large improvement ton LOD. Tht always detracts from the visuals the most for me. I blame Ubisoft for this, mostly.

That said, this engine has always looked a bit funky to me. Most things look like overly shiny plastic. But that's just the impression I get from screenshots.

True, the only thing I would say is that there cannot be a battle between PC and PS4 or between PC and Xbox One as you are comparing a fixed platform to something limited in power growth over 5-6 years, average console cycle, by the amount of money you throw at it. Not to mention that in an effort to lower production costs and make the platform easier to develop while staying well below 300 Watts summing all of its components, you cannot throw exotic architectures with super high peak performanceat developers and expect them to figure out how to fully maximize those complex and unique beasts. Once your PC can withstand 300-400+ Watts, it is up to you to lose the performance battle :P.

I can understand console owners getting excited at how a fixed platform developers can optimize to is able to punch above its weight at times more than a PC owner feeling superiors out his combo although knowing what components are powering your PC, their architecture, seeing them evolve, and maybe coding on them a bit too can be exciting ;).

Still, this is a PC thread, celebrating how good MGS V can look on PC if given a powerful enough machine, shitting on consoles by some PC owners is IMHO a bit much sometimes, but anyway nothing to worth dwelling on too much here. As long as people do not get the illusion that just because they buy a game on something called PC it will automatically shit over anything else regardless of the components + drivers combo powering them ;).

A very sane answer in this clash of reality distortion fields.

Aaaaand the PC version looks better, of course. And the denial in this thread is entertaining. Shouldn't stuff like this be expected? The console versions still look good.

finally caught up with the thread, what a hilarious mess.

i am slightly perturbed by the comments on what kind of hardware is needed to run the game at max, the requirements are relatively modest and even then requirements tend to have some degree of wiggle room for lesser components

Oh you are here. And to blame ps4 fans, as ever. Never change my friend.

Where is this mythical shitting on console owowners I keep seeing?

This whole thread is about people saying they see no difference.

No one has said " stupid console owners mwahahaha"

I notice a contrast difference and a puddle,I also notice the rain splashs on the ground is missing on the PC version, so just the puddle which is an odd thing to add, PS4 can't do puddles? Really?
Also lol at the What's new 60fps.

the splashes are there but the images aren't directly synched up.

uh, maybe you should look at the other shot for a more dramatic difference if you're unconvinced of differences.

Wow. It's funny how people seems to play the "marginal difference" "looks the same but different contrast" card when it doesn't play in favor of their favorite platform. Let's be honest here, the drawing distance is vastly improved. As Durante said, if it was about Xbox One and PS4, that would've been a huge thing. Heck, it has been, remember the atmospheric simulation thing.

It may be that the PC version has better graphics, but in order to see those graphics you will need to be sitting hunched over a desk. Is a minor graphical upgrade really worth the loss of a comfy couch?

Well all PC gamers basically are too fat and wear too thick glasses to see TVs far away. Furthermore, the heat of our computer towers keeps us warm in our parent's basements.

So yes, it is worth it.

Who sad you can't have both? You can play PC games with a controller you know. I play my PC games on a couch with a table in front of it with my mouse and keyboard. I play on an 80inch projection screen with Epson PowerLiteHome Cinema 2030 1080p projector (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00EO96W2I/?tag=neogaf0e-20) and I can see ALL of the details.

I can't believe Kojima is the only person actually posting screenshot comparisons. Everyone else is too busy trying to secure preorders, when it turns out that doing this actually gets people excited for the game a lot more than bullshots and fancy CG trailers.

Well I have to sell my couch to afford my $1500 GAF-PC to play this anyway, so it isn't really a big deal.

Damn my battles with anorexia and my stunning visual acuity. I can never be a real gamer in the PC or console world :(

[citation needed].

It may resonate well with the very hardcore crowd on GAF and similar sites, but i doubt it applies to the larger market most AAA studios are going for.

Wasn't there a study showing how CGi trailers were one of the best ways to get preorders, too?

The puddle is there in the PS4 shot. It's the reflection that is missing.

Looks really sweet on PC, though IMO, there should be exclusive content on the PS4 version to help make up for the graphical shortcomings, like Capcom did with the PS2 version of Resident Evil 4.

That's not why the PS2 version of RE4 had exclusive content.

Fuck platform exclusive content in its entirety, BTW.

Fuck platform exclusive content in its entirety.

Why not? If publishers are gonna put their games on PC & make their games much more superior to the console versions in graphics, then the console versions should get some sort of compensation for it.

That would be fair, wouldn't it?

get the fuck outta here. you wanna make more content, fine, but that shit needs to be everywhere. if you feel your hardware is inferior, that's your own damn fault. im sure there are pcs that will run this worse than a ps3 too.

No. This is what people get on about when they call gamers entitled. The console versions have been out ages and received each others "exclusive" missions and both (current gen) versions play great and look great. PS4 looks better so by your logic Xbone one should have gotten more content? What about the last gen versions? The should have gotten a whole new game too!

Your "compensation" is the fact that it's been out months already before a PC version was even announced.

wow the PC screens make PS4 looks like PS3.
Someone should make that comparison btw

wonder when pre-order starts? The good thing I noticed about Japanese games on Steam is the pre-order prices are discounted!

Prettier graphics than PS4
Rock solid 60fps
No monthly fees
Cheaper prices. :D

I think history will repeat itself, conceptually speaking, and pre-orders will go live on Steam as a Daily Deal during the Autumn Sale (this is what happened with Rising -- it was one of the first Daily Deals of last year's Winter Sale).

Edit edit: Said sale will kick off next Wednesday (10am PT).

So the Xbox One should be getting more exclusive content then? Are graphical shortcomings really always at the behest of the developers?

And there was me thinking each version looks pretty great. I mean, I understand the game is really short and would be more fitting of a sizable demo but content by graphical discrepancy is, well, bizarre.

Yeah, seems like it worked wonders for them with Rising. Why not stick with that release formula? Hope to give them my GMP soon!

I'm probably wasting my time with asking of people actually see a significant amount of people changing their stances on what's a large difference between multiplats? Or is it just that one guy?

I'm not overly familiar with the history of RE4, but I'd assume the additional content in the PS2 version was less an apology for its visual inferiority and more a sweetener to make up for the fact it was nine months "late".

I think a PS4 version of a game is generally expected to be better as well, though. There must be some other reason.

Again, I said the raw power difference between the hardware potential of current-gen consoles and PCs is similar to the difference between PS4/X1 and Wii U, which leads to boring outcomes if people are looking for the "best" version. The difference between PS4 and Xbox One is not nearly as large, and there are times when the "weaker" console can actually outperform the stronger competition in certain areas (such as AF). Again, this really is not the case in a PC vs. consoles comparison.
