Metal Gear Solid V - PC vs. PS4 screenshot comparison

As always, this thread went to shit pretty fast. And by the same people, impressive. Anyway, PC version looks amazing - going to double dip on this one and play the heck out of it on PC. Wish it wasn't locked at 60 but everything else is very impressive. At least I'll have 1440p.

Wonder how my GTX 460 can run this.

Otherwise looks like a great port. Would be cool if they patched some of this stuff to consoles as well.

They will in the inevitable MGS V: Substance

760 recommended is very good.
I wonder if a 970 can run it in 4k, more or less maxed out (minus AA) at 60fps.

I can do it with Dark Souls 2, but it doesn't look exactly amazing.

Okay but it's more locked on PC. On PC the framerate is so locked it makes the locked console framerate look unlocked. That's the power of $500 Nvidia video cards.

That, and the fact you can contribute in this kind of circle jerk threads.

..I just realized we're barely one year into the cycle and the meltdowns are already happening. So what happens when the next wave of next gen PC hardware hits.. Before the end of the cycle we'll have 4K VR, 20-25TF GPUs.. This is only the beginning. God help us all.

Anyway, looking forward to playing this game.

Unfortunately the TPP isn't going to be current-gen/PC only. I'd love to see the full power of the Fox Engine without last-gen restrictions.

Hell, I'd love to see the Fox Engine without current-gen consoles restrictions. Looks like an excellent engine.

Why is there no parity when it comes to consoles vs PC but devs have to do parity b/w PS4 and XB1...If a dev really wants to have parity then it should be across all platforms. If not, then PS4 should always be more close to the PC and run better than XB1 for obvious reasons. No more parity BS on consoles.

PC versions should/will always be ahead of consoles and this is how it should be.

Huh? You must have missed all those games that were 720/900 on Xbone and 1080 on PS4.

Going by the screenshots and list of differences the assets are mostly (if not) identical but the big thing is an increased LOD rendering distance on, well, everything. And as always, it makes a huge fucking difference.

Always did this in PC games, digging into the ini and cfg files to see if I could increase LOD rendering distance. Looks particularly impressive here as it's not just assets, but the lighting too.

Hopefully they will have figured out some optimization for TPP to get PS4 looking even better than it does. I know they already said there were improvements graphically, but certainly nothing to bring it to that PC level from what we've seen.

Is PS4 technically lead platform?

I'm pretty sure PC has been, though I think Ground Zeroes is more of a port.

Not sure why they took so long on this one.

So what's new in the PC edition Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes? Here's a handy list:

60 FPS frame rate
Additional deferred lights per scene
Additional shadows per scene
Higher-resolution render targets
Higher-resolution shadows
Increased detail over distances
NVIDIA SLI Multi-GPU support
Options to adjust seven graphics features (Effects, Lighting, Screen Filtering, Shadows, Texture Filtering, Textures)
Resolution support up to and including 3840x2160 (4K)
Screen Space Reflections

Doesn't the PS4 version run at 1080p60?

*whistle* so glad that PC gaming has taken a big rise in sales lately and that devs are putting some effort into the games on PC. This gen seems to be much better for PC than last.

I guess my comment get lost in the hype.

This thing really bothers me.

Oh yes, definitely a much better gen for the PC than the last. For one, I haven't seen anymore shitty "PC is dying" news. These high profile Japanese releases like MGS V are glorious for the platform.

My bigger concern is the dithering. WTF is up with that? I was already dissapointed it was in the PS4 version, but it's also in the PC version? You have to be kidding me.
Even SE with the FFXIII PC port got rid of the dithering and that was a barebones port with a locked resolution...

This is a thread about MGS GZ. The game runs at 720p on Xbox One (1080p PS4) and has less dynamic day/night effects in the sky.

There's no parity here.

Dithering is just the fucking worst.

I remember being disgusted by it when playing Sega Saturn ports of Arcade games, and it's still being used in 2014 in AAA games. Just awful.

I dunno. I'm not much of a PC gamer so forgive me. But it seems like last gen there were still plenty of visual enhancements to be found in games on PC in relation to the PS3/360.

The shading is definitely a step up for the PC version.

I was going to pass this up, but I may be giving this game a shot now.

Releases? Plural? Where are the rest of them?

The only other major Japanese releases were of last gen games.

More so later in the gen (2 - 3 years in) when GPUs were already massively outstripping console hardware. I'd imagine you'll see that happening even sooner this gen.

lol why are you shocked by this? ps4 is a 400$ machine, of course it can't push everything to the max.
Last gen consoles matched up to PCs pretty well the first few years. Imagine hiw much more powerful a mid range PC will be in 5 years conpared to a power stagnant PS4/XB1

Sure. The Xbox 360 and PS3 were heavily subsidized machines.
Also, a 400 dollar box in 2005 was worth a lot more than a 400 dollar box in 2013 due to inflation.

It was estimated that the Xbox 360 was costing Micrsoft 526 dollars to produce at launch. If Microsoft wanted to break even on each console, they would have sell a 2013 console for nearly 650 dollars.

At 650 dollars a console, I'm sure they would be packing quite a wallop.

I don't think we will be seeing the subsidized console business model for awhile.

its really NOT that big a difference as far as LoD... dont know how people can say that it is.

Draw Distance
Lighting
Reflections

are the Noticeable differences. but LoD is not a big difference AT ALL.

without seeing reflections, lights, and draw distance... they are very very similar in LoD.

Can you look at these crops, and honestly say its a BIG DIFFERENCE? Can you even tell which is which? (whithout cheating and looking at the originals.)

Is this a serious post?

"If you look only at this shot where you can't see any distant objects, how can you tell me that distant objects look any better on one platform than the other?"

Do you even know what people are talking about when they say LOD?

Do you know what LoD is? I don't know how you could judge that based on a short of an enclosed space where all the objects are close.
