Metal Gear Solid V - PC vs. PS4 screenshot comparison

Slightly off topic, but I'm getting more certain that Phantom Pain will arrive a bit late on PC:

Of course that could me a bunch of different things, but it wouldn't surprise me. As long as they do a good job, as they seem to be thus far with Ground Zeroes, I'd be ok with it maybe :P

As much as I want TPP on PC I also want a new MGS as early as possible. If TPP comes late then I'll be getting the PS4 version. Gonna hold off on double dipping on the PC GZ until we get confirmation of TPP PC release date.

I expect PC versions to be a lot better. I have to see that with any game. The forever upgrading PC vs the PS4.

All comparisons of PC vs PS4 always shot the PC version to be slightly better. Nothing that ever wows me though.

True true, though were Ground Zeroes released today, it would absolutely look and run better than what came out ages ago.

I hear ya. But everyone is constantly spouting how amazing the PC is, how consoles can't compare to the PC.

So where is this mythical PC game that blows everything away? lol Even PC exclusive games fail to show off this so called amazing graphics.

Metal Gear Solid 5 will be slightly better just like all the other titles. A little more light, a tad more draw distance, nothing more.

I don't have the best gaming PC, but it is not bad. I am sporting a GTX 780 with an i7 cpu. I just keep resorting back to my PS4 for gaming though.

quite a lot of multiplatforms last gen were miles away better looking than their console counterparts, simply for the fact the pc version could hit 1080p. mirror's edge was a revelation on pc, visually. resolution matters a considerable amount.

the gap has been temporarily shortened though, but it's due to expand again with 4K coming in. not to mention easy to use and officially supported downsampling methods like DSR.

as for pc exclusive games not utilising enhanced graphics capability? the witcher 2 called.

I don't agree with any PC master race BS, I think console games are generally fine, but for me the ultimate PC exclusive is Arma 3 which has a huge terrain, detailed assets, amazing draw distance, ingame downsampling and tons of settings so it will be great looking even after a few years.

Not to mention awesome modding tools / editor for infinite playtime.

Keep your expectation in check I guess, if you're downplaying the benefits that are there like that you can also make the same case for the XB1. And those differences are even smaller than the differences between the PC and PS4 version.

Because obviously , it's not everything about graphics fidelity. There are many, many things other than superior graphics quality that separate PC and consoles. PC versions of games are better only how much developers want them to be.Currently , new consoles share 90% of same assets with PC, but that doesn't mean PC can't do more. Most of the time games end up with higher fps , or few minor extra options. No one is going to make a game that looks like real life and run at 4fps with quad sli 980s. Who would buy such thing?

Looks a lot uglier in that picture.

Everything is brown. At first I thought it was the cloud but why would everything turn more brown?

http://youtu.be/Pk-N45YzsS8?t=2m12s watch the transition in this scene. clearly a TOD change the first seconds are similar to the first picture (from earlier in this trailer), when he's getting into the back of the truck and riding, it's browner like we saw in e3 2014. the difference is being overblown. it's definitely a time of day change

Yay, nothing more sir !
It's not like we have threads with so much pages about "grassgate". Such a dramatic difference in draw distance isn't only a huge improvements in term of graphics. But also gameplay.

People saying this same shit all the time seem to be expecting a game on two different platforms to look like two different games.
No. It won't. Crysis 3 for example on PS3 looks the same game as Crysis 3 on PC, even though the graphics are vastly different, it's still instantly recognisably the same game.

Metal Gear Solid 5 will be slightly better just like all the other titles. A little more light, a tad more draw distance, nothing more.

Going by the first screenshot comparison it's more than 'a little' of those things. Both your comments make it hard for me to believe you 'just keep resorting back to your PS4 for gaming' despite owning a high end PC.

I can't decide whether you're joking or incredibly salty.

fyi the game wasn't a looker on PS4. No amount of extra lights will fix that. it is a last gen tech/engine running at 1080p 60 FPS on PS4 IMO.

Why has "extra lights" become the story instead of "increased LoD distance for geometry, lights, and foliage, as well as improved shadow resolution and IQ, and the addition of SSR". Because the latter is what I'm seeing, and very obviously so.

The tech in Fox Engine scales pretty far beyond "last gen." PBR, motionblur, etc...

And if anything Silent HIlls PT proves this. It is just that being "next gen" looking at 1080p 60 on console hardware ain't easy.

It's amusing to see some desperately trying to damage control how better the PC version looks.

I suspect we will see quite a lot of it in the coming months.

I'd faint if somehow the PC version looked worse. Sites in OP are blocked at work, how does the PS4 version hold up?

Too transparent, I don't think many people here are gonna bite.

He got plenty of nibbles, and with good reason. I mean, any good satire is firmly grounded in reality and everything he said is at least superficially true. Really, it wasn't until the very last sentence that he tipped his hand. Deserves a bit more than a "transparent," at least.

Well I'd say. It does not look a generation ahead on PC (I have not seen anyone claiming that) but the PC improvements are easily noticed and definitely add a lot.

the newest MGSV footage looked great. But GZ didn't look great all IMO, it seemed like a PS3 port up to me.

Those square tires even on PC. Looks like a minor upgrade to me. they just had to give pc something so they just added a few embellishments. Lighting is nice, but probably just some form of simple light mapping.

I'm not enough of a hard core gamer to be able to tell if the difference here is big enough that they look like generation gaps.

however, I remember reading a youtube comment on reviewtechusa's analysis of this

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JbN_o5pK9Ek

Couldn't find the comment, but it said something along the lines of "I know PC is better, but I don't care. You know why? Coz I played metal gear on ps1, metal gear solid on Ps2 and 3, so I'm gonna play MGS5 on my Ps4.

And that's their choice, what does it have to do with tech comparisons ?

Dat brand loyalty, idiots i say.

I also own every MGS game on a Sony system, I even have GZ on PS3. But I don't think that even matters.

I'll be buying TPP on Steam only.

Ugh I can't tell what's different with all these environment shots. Just give me close up pics of Quiet and I'll be able to tell you if the PC version is better. *Close up pics from all angles....

Both your comments make it hard for me to believe you 'just keep resorting back to your PS4 for gaming' despite owning a high end PC.

Hard to believe what? I do have a high end gaming PC, but I always end up back on my PS4.

Say what you want, but I have not seen anything that has wowed me on my PC yet. My PC is not top of the line, but it does have an i7 cpu, 12gb of ram, and a GTX 780.

The last game that made me say "wow!", was Far Cry 1 and Half Life 2.

The comparison pictures in the first post certainly do not wow me. Both are very similar with little differences. From the screen shots anyways.

Too transparent, I don't think many people here are gonna bite.

Nothing to bite. I am not looking for any replies as I was just giving my opinion.

he wasn't being a fanboy about it, he just said he doesn't care that PC is better. He wasn't denying the fact

It was brand loyalty. He said he's played the games on PlayStation and so he'll play the next on PlayStation too.

Saying the same thing again isn't going to make me suddenly believe you.

You mean you "always end up back on [your] PS4" because of its exclusives, right? If that's the case, then it's absolutely fine. Can't blame a man for choosing to play a handful of games not available on PC.

Some shitty Chromatic Aberration there.

What you are seeing is chromatic aberration correction. Because chromatic aberration IRL is a thing that occurs when light passes through lenses. And because the Oculus Rift uses lenses to bend the image around your perspective in the headset, chromatic aberration occurs within the headset. So, to fix for this, you bend light back in the opposite direction. Hence, to an image not displayed in the rift, it appears as though there is chromatic aberration when in fact it's chromatic aberration in the exact opposite direction to cancel out the real-life chromatic aberration that occurs.

In short, no, there's not chromatic aberration when you play this correctly.

I'm so hyped for this.
Only 17 days left.
I sure hope they let us pre-order and pre-load it, as it'll be a nightmare to download the game right as the Steam winter sales start.

15 days left, still no pre-order.
Come on Konami, don't do this to me.
Also, Robert posted on the PP forums.

Is the reveal that will happen in the weekend "just" the MGO premiere or something else?

There will be a Game Awards Sale during/after the show for 24hrs/48hrs (not sure). If it is like the VGX stream and sale steam did - expect sales on items related to the series / devs / pubs of the games shown at the show.

MGS V GZ will most likely be up for preorder then

That would be really amazing.
Looking at steamdb it seems there were a bunch of people playing GZ yesterday. At least it seems they are testing it a lot before release.
