Uhm, my current female-vocalist kick is, er, Jem. I can tell you this but no one else, because you MAF also have a weakness for female vocalists. When I start to feel the girl-pop shame of Jem kicking in I listen to some of the more disco-y Scissor Sisters songs because they sound like they could kick your ass despite their penchant for boogie.

And Metric is great, but I still think Stars should have gotten a bit of the push that Metric got (at least here in canada). 'Elevator Love Letter' is still my favourite pop song of the past couple of years.

I heartily agree! I've had their songs running through my head. Her voice is so great, like she has fun without sucking, and she sounds so cute! And their music is simple but has a nice quality to it, like her singing you can tell they are having fun with it, but without sucking like many bands do when they try to goof around.

Listen to nicely sized samples of all the songs here!

Heh as I click the thread "On The Sly" randomly starts here at work. Probably my new favourite Metric song, it's at least up there with Dead Disco and Hardwire.

I made a 20 song metric mix that I listen to when I drive around town. Awesome driving music.

I also like the part of Dead Disco where she goes really low with the la la's. Rox

Grow up and Blow Away was unreleased, I 'found it' online. I dunno where The People fits in the discography.

id also like to use this moment to pimp The Shins, my other favorite band! Go Shins!

yeah there's an unreleased EP with the other songs. MAF again, The Organ, get it, now.

Where are you guys ordering the cd from? I've been looking for it for a while now. I don't feel like waiting until nov. 2. for a US release.

I thought this was going to be a metric system romp. I was so excited that I listened to Using the Metric System by Atom and His Package.

I still need to pick up the Metric album. I had it fully downloaded on my comp before too. Liked what I heard.

Star Power, have you picked up the Arcade Fire cd yet?

Too bad more people don't think like us. Elevator Love Letter was the best single of 2003, IMO.

Oh yeah, new Stars album out on October 12th!!!

Stars have a new album coming out Oct. 21 and I think Amy Millan's solo project is coming this year too. Can't Wait. :)

Set Yourself on Fire is coming out in Canada on Oct 12th, the US and the rest of the world aren't getting it until early 2005 according to the band's website. Amazon.ca doesn't list it yet, dammit.

Emily's voice is so awesome! *listens to more metric*

Ive heard a few stars songs, this next cd a real release, I dont have any obscure music stores in my neighborhood

Dude, make a trip into Seattle sometime, they have their first two albums (along with the EPs) at Easy Street, Sonic Boom and Tower.

The new album is one Arts and Crafts, so I doubt larger chains will carry it.

I still remember seeing Stars and Broken Social Scene on the same bill. it was awesome!

Which tower do you go to? Im in mill creek, long trip for a cd ;)

Thanks Jason.

Personally I don't shop at Tower, their prices are too high, but I've seen Heart at the Queen Anne/Seattle Center Tower. Since my girlfriend lives in Queen Anne, I'm pretty much a slave to Easy Street. They have great low prices on new releases, plus you can get $2 off coupons on the web, which I use every time I go there.

Thanks for the preorder link, Jason. I'm sure that some local shop in Seattle will get it about a week after it's released in Canada (much like Memphis' I Dreamed We Fell Apart), but I can sleep easier, knowing it's on the way.

Speaking of the new Memphis album (Torquill of Stars' side project), I'm not sure what I think of it so far, not really what I was expecting.
