Metroid Prime 4: Beyond | Review Thread

Why god, why, just WHY

i just got to this part, its time stamped, Myles spoiling all the fun once again, not even turning the damn tutorial off make him shut the fuck up, , there is no defending this, what a poor decision for a Metroid game,

just wait till he start talking

I really don't know what the do. Big Metroid fan but I really think they messed it up big time. Especially with all the conversations/tips and the desert. If they more mature it would be okay. Pre order is on the way but thinking about to return it. Still a huge backlog. Otherwise I'll just replay prima 2/3/dread again or AM2R

it's objectively appalling but ya gotta admit the tourists are pretty happy about it

Only he can save Metroid now.

I thought they'd learned their lesson after Other M and Federation Force but I guess they haven't.

Perhaps the game spent so long in development they needed it to sell to a wider audience to recover their investment, so they decided to make it much more friendly to newcomers.

Nintendo doesn't really know what to do with this franchise.

The more I see of Prime 4, the more I'm reminded of Skyward Sword:
  • Overly talkative companions that spoil the sense of discovery.
  • Empty overworld.
  • Similar dungeon and puzzle design from what I've seen.
  • The remaster for SS also had some suspect amiibo shenanigans.
  • Is Sylux a Groose equivalent?
It feels outdated.

Metroid got Disney-fied.
Absolutely dreadful.

at the moment.

Well that one sure sounds like Metroid Prime, although that chorus might a bit too much.

Wonder what happened at Retro. I would LOVE to see how this game was going to be before the big reset it allegedly got mid-development.

Uh oh....

I love Metroid, but personally don't care for the Prime series. I was excited for folks that I know were hyped though.

But yeah, really not sure what Retro was thinking with a lot here. So much sounds off putting. Really makes you wonder what their plan/goal was.

Ive never been a big fan of the prime series either. DREAD was top tier Metroid for sure.

after playing this one for a few hours I can say if you like the prime series this one will be great. It looks great and to plays great.

One thing that is a little off putting is that it is clearly made with motion controls or mouse in mind. You will have to do some configuring if you plan to just play with a pro controller as the stick movement is too slow for a lot of interactions that were made for motion controls. Mouse controls would work well also.

This game isn't a balls to wall shooter ( no prime game has been really) but it seems to start out very slowly with a lot of hand holding which will put some people off for sure.

again though over all I am enjoying it a lot and the visuals and sound are way better than I imagined looking at videos, but there is clearly a lot of room for improvement and is bit cumbersome if you do not won't to play with motions controls or mouse.

dont get me wrong the game is good, but his has no place in Metroid, absolutely no place
This is what I was worried about, when they first showed off the bike, and the companions. I am not doubting it is a good "game", with a good atmosphere, graphics, gameplay(?), etc.

But, all of these things do not make it a good Metroid game. From someone who has played almost every game in the series, starting with the original all the way up to Dread (I missed some of the portable/handheld games), having chattering companions talking your head off while driving a motorcycle around an open desert hub just to reach linear hallway "dungeons" does not sound very Metroid-like to me.

It seems the development hell/drawing board do-overs took their toll on this game, unfortunately. I was very much looking forward to it but wound up cancelling my pre-order the other day after watching some of the initial reviews and seeing the Open/Metacritic scores. Now after being revealed about the end-game crystal collect-a-thon, I am glad I did. Screw that stuff. Filler content with no respect for the player's time.

The really sad thing is this will probably not sell very well and leave the future of the series in question.

i guarantee it will be the best selling prime game. Nintendo games nowadays sell no matter what. Japan will buy a piece of shit in a case if the logo is switch

i m just a returning player to the Metroid franchise and i couldn't agree more, all the sense of exploration/discovery/isolation i had with Prime and Dread the last weeks is lost here, i really wish the game gets better further but i ll keep my expectation at check.

on the good side, i yet have to play Prime 2 and 3 for the first time, so i ll get those lost things back.

Still, I'll pass. Based on the tone of that segment -- and the general mediocrity of the rest of the game I've seen -- I wouldn't touch this one.

If the game was named Armor Suit Girl 4, it would be a 70 MC at best. Nobody in his right mind could pass this off as a "great 80 MC" kind of game. The desert sections are straight out of the worst PS2 era titles.

This is not any better than Lost Soul Aside.

Huh, I was thinking it'd likely review better if 'Metroid' wasn't attached to it. It's getting major flack for not feeling isolated etc. which is only because that's what people expect out of the franchise.
