Metroid Prime insane shit

ok, fungal hall access.... the vertical room with a bunch of mushrooms hanging from the ceiling. amazingly you can climb the shrooms almost to the top, where it looks like there is a ledge. has anyone ever reached the top?

I have yet to actually put time in this game, it just sits there with all those my other games begging for my time. How long does it take to beat anyway?

14 hours? Sounds reasonable enough. I need to get a better memory card, I save like a madman and the Xbox harddrive spoils me. My memory card is practically nothing but Resident Evil 4....it's a sickness.

15 hours here I think. You should definitely put it on the top of your to-do-list Homer if you enjoyed Super Metroid (especially the atmospheric part of it).

MP only takes one block of memory.

Fungal Hall? What region does it belong to?

I just got Echoes so I'm in enough of a Metroid-ish mood to try this out (may have already done it, I screwed around a lot in Prime, but forget what you're talking about).

could someone at least link me to a site that talks about those crazy tricks.. you know, like the methods to jump over the walls to leave the game world

I can get up to the one just before the big one that looks like it can go to the ledge, but I can't get onto the big one because I bump my head and cant get far enough for the double jump to get me on top.

Ya, same here. First year it came out in November I got to the final boss and haven't touched the game since. In MP2:E, last November I got to that worm boss and haven't touched it since. The only game I've finished in recent years is RE4. It's so hard to find time.

Can I just add that this game rocks? I need to play through it once again.

Speaking of which, is Echoes worth it?

You and me are in the same boat. I've had this game for 2+ years :lol

When it comes to gameplay mechanics, boss fights, atmosphere, art, level design, echoes is superior to prime in every ways. What to some peoples, including me make the original prime more memorable is that a) its focused on metroids unlike echoes b) music c) phendrana rifts.

Otherwise, i found echoes so be really awesome. Brinstar remix ftw! :D

Anyone who has not even given this game a try yet needs to be power bombed.

My favorite game of this gen, easily. Homer, get off GAF and play it!

In before Anihawk and Dragona derision.

Me, get off GAF?! That's impossible!!! It's like some wonderful sadistic drug!!

Metroid Prime takes 1 block and it saves insanely fast (like 1 second). You have no excuse.

Yeah, I know. :(

Puff puff give

Seriously though, play it, especially if you liked the older games. Like I said, my favorite title of the gen, and I've played quite a few games this gen, including RE4 and MGS3. They're right up there too, though.

ok, toward the top, theres one really big shroom cap. You can get under it and double jump to a meduim shroom under the ledge. From there you can double-strafe jump onto another medium shroom in the corner near the entrance. From there,we can't find any way higher. The thing is,there's an orange glow up therde... it's so inviting.

For a guy who has like 40 FFX saves, and 90 Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic saves, on top of the dozens of other games saves, the standard GC memory card was child's play to fill. Like I said, it's a sickness.

It must be said Metroid Prime's gametimer @ load game screens is one of the most inaccurate ever. All scanning, maptime and a few other things aren't included.

You can't spare one block?

I remember playing this game for the first and been blown the fuck away by it, the space frigate part is orgasmic. the atmosphere is off the roof in that part, the graphics are unbelievable and then Phendrana Drifts :o :o

easily GOTG for me, especially when taken into account all the negative hype and doubt surrounding the title.

can't wait to see what retro does with prime 3.

wait a sec, that site doesn't list(or i can't find it listed) the bomb trick where you can lay bombs in a certain pattern and propel your guy upwards to unreachable ledges early in the game in Super Metroid and I believe metroid on NES. Although when I was a kid I thought I had 'invented' it, I thought this was pretty common knowledge for anyone who's played metroid a lot.

I got to the second part, but never got the strafe jump down (tried plenty). I eventually got bored with it and didn't want to run 50 miles to the nearest save point (biggest flaw in MP) so I just turned it off, so now I'm in the impact crater.

Ok, I've finished Prime 2 yesterday and besides that it has some serious problems (I mean, dark world? come on...) The game is STUNNINGLY beautiful, from the start to the very end.

really beautiful game.

Coincidence: I finished Echoes last month and I was totally, I mean TOTALLY disappointed.

Boring levels, boring boss fights (excluding that gigantic mecha-spider), ultra-stupid 3-tier last boss fight, shitty music (excluding Fortress theme), shitty main menu (while Prime's rocked), boring enemies, dark world sucking your life, fucking AMMO counters, absolutely unnecessary "Guardians" bosses, boring weapons (dark beam "freezing" enemies? what a fucking ice beam rip off) and so on, and so on.

Where was Echoes' Thardus? Or Meta Ridley? Phenandra Drifts? Magmoor?
Nowhere - Echoes is just soulless and unispired.

Echoes is the GameCube's KOTOR2.

A forgetable 7/10 game that had a brilliant predecessor.

(thank god it wasn't like DX: Invisible War)

What's utterly unbelievable is that Echoes' Multiplayer gave me a much more enjoyable time than the SP game - that's how bad it is.

Those are the serious problems I was talking about indeed. I guess i'll have to add that enemies are seriously overpowered in this game. I'd rather have 5 enemies that I can shoot and win than lose half my energy bar to one stupid creature that I have to strafe my way around all the time.

But I couldn't help but notice how gorgeous the game looks, the amount of detail put in the game is just insane.

What I don't like is how the beam fires when you push the button down, not when you let go. This can be overlooked with unlimited weapons, but if you're on a limited ammo weapon and fighting enemies that need to be taken out with charged shots, all those single shots that fire every time you start to charge are only going to waste. The only way to make them useful would be to pick out one enemy to take the dinky shots and hit everyone else with the carged ones, but that's way too much work. It also slows down your killing if every time you want to charge you have to wait for your gun to fire once first.

Start with the standard beam, switch to special beam midcharge for the win. You did know you could do that, right?

ultra-stupid 3-tier last boss fight

Totally agree. I had some serious problems with that dude. I could never beat the last form. Then when I found out you have to be Dark Semus after that dude WITHOUT A FUCKING SAVE I put it down and moved on to another game.

Holy crap I forgot about that 4th boss.

Utterly stupid dev decision - a shining example of bad game design.

And the fact that you had to
catch flying chunks of phazon with your arm to damage Dark Samus (nearly impossible without a mouse)
was just the icing on that cake of retardness.

Everybody bitches about prime 2.
Dark samus is childs play, Its the : WTF!?! moment that makes it hard.
If you finished the first one its not too hard to beat it.
Also the screw attack makes the backtracking alot easier to do

Wtf dude? I'm not going to touch any part of your post except the music part:

While Prime 1's music is definitely better than Prime 2's, Prime 2 still has an outstanding OST.

(btw: Prime 2's main menu theme FTW)
