Metroid Prime Questions

Ok, I'm pretty well done the game. All I have left to do is wipe out the final boss. But before I do that I am in the Phazon mines in the mine security station. There is this one door or wall or whatever that says it is locked because of pirate lifeform readings. All weapons fire bounces off of it so I don't know what to do to open it. I've checked out a few FAQs but none of them have the answer.

Also, any tips on fighting the final boss?

God damn do I ever hate that room with the fission metroids and the platforming. I know to bomb the bastards to kill them but it is frustrating having the latch up on me mid jump while at the top of the room.

Use power bombs. You should have 3-4 by now.

What I did was just ignore them and go as fast as I can through the platforms. However they will attack you in mid air so I'd stop exactly 3-4 times and wait for them to attack, then power bomb them and continue. Stop again, wait for the surrounding ones to attack and bomb them and continue, etc...

I made it to the final boss with nearly full health.

Chrono's advice for the last stretch in the crater is the best you'll get. It's very easy to get to the final boss without taking much damage at all. Power Bombs will destroy the Fission Metroids in one shot, and they might just drop more Power Bombs upon death.

As for that room. I'm not sure what door you're speaking of, but it sounds like you need to kill off all of the enemies before proceeding. Maybe.

I've killed all the enemies in the room. This is like the biggest red herring in the game. There is space on the map for a room behind it but it doesn't actually show up on the map. The door doesn't look like any kind of door in the game. They obviously put it there for a reason but I don't know if you are ever meant to get inside it.

I knew to powerbomb the metroids but it still sucks.

Try looking around the room with your scan visor... maybe there's a key or something that opens it if you scan it. Try the same thing with your thermal and x-ray visors too.

What room is this? Is the door scannable? Did you find the Phazon Mines map station (if there was one, I don't remember anymore)? You say there's nothing beyond on the map. Does it LOOK like a door on the map (an exit point) does it register as just a wall?

The room is the Mine Security Station in the Phazon Mines.

The door's location is on the floor directly above the entrance to the room. The door scans and says something like it is locked due to pirate life signs.

I wiped out all the different pirate types and the door stays sealed. It is certainly different from a regular wall because any and all firepower bounces off of it as opposed to begin absorbed. I also went right up to it and you can tell someone has modeled the insides of the door as you can see some of the interior doorframe lighting peeking out. There is no indicator on the map saying that it is really any kind of door at all.

I tried to stealth my way in and not alert the pirates...but they see you no matter what and it still stays shut. If all the pirates are alive the door stays shut. I think someone put it in there just to mess with peoples minds or there was going to be a room behind there and they just never put it in.

This is obviously not the same door where you can find the flamethrower.

Hmmm. It doesn't ring a bell. I don't remember EVER encountering a a door that reflected shots that could not be otherwise opened... and I beat the game with 101% items found and 100% logs scanned (Hard mode)! So I know I didn't miss anything.

Gimme a little while and I'll boot up my game and wander on over to that section.

Edit - There are multiple exits from this room, no? Tell me the name of the room reached by the door CLOSEST to this 'red herring' you speak of, please. (And basic directions from that door to the red herring.)

OK, From the Landing Site in the Tallon Overworld head to the Phazon Mines East elevator.

You'll arrive in the Phazon Mines. Then there is the Main Quarry two rooms away in a straight line from the elevator. Once you are there, there is a room called Security Access A that connects to the Main Quarry. Go through there and you'll be in the Mine Security Station (its the room where you first encounted the wave troopers where you have to change weapons to their color to destroy them) .

Once you're there battle your way through the wave troopers to the second story of that room and directly above where you entered the room in the first place. There will be a wall detail that looks sort of like a door and like nothing else in the room. With your scanner on you'll see that there is a red scan icon infront of it. Scan it and you'll see the message I do. Try shooting it and watch as your weapons fire all bounce off of it.

101% items found? I've looked and I've only found you can finish the game with 100%. Are you sure you're not talking about MP2?

EDIT: Can someone tell me how to mask text?

I think it was a glitch. When I beat the game on Normal, I got 100% items (but not all scans... g-d damn Ice Shriekbats). But on Hard Mode, when I got all of the items, then proceeded onto the Metroid Prime for the last scans, then saved it, when I checked out my file, it showed 101%.

War Machine, you're not meant to go in those rooms. Those are supposedly where the space pirates come out of. They're basically empty. I managed to keep one of those doors open (bug) in Phendrana Drifts and they're just a tiny box, nothing in them. So, yeah don't lose sleep over it.

Alright dude, I just made my way to that room. and found the spot you were talking about. It shows up as already scanned for me, though I never noticed (until now) that this part of the wall reflected shots.

There's nothing there. It's for shits n giggles, IMHO. BTW, I did this with my 101% file, just to be sure.

Thanks for looking into it! I've never seen one of those doors open and an enemy come out. Mystery Solved!

Now i just have to beat Metroid Prime. The Ice Blast the thing will do is just bending me over a barrel.

No problem. I wanted to say that one of those elemental space pirate troopers popped out of that door thing, but I wasn't sure if he leapt out of there, or from a compartment in the ceiling above.

Good luck with the Metroid Prime!

Just completed it. When it switched to Ice Mode I blasted it with the Ice Spreader and it took it out before it could freeze me. I was at about 25 health when I finally wiped it out the phazon version of it.

I'm just about to crack open Echos! Hopefully it won't take me 2 years to finish!

In reality I just got sick of the Phazon Mines part of MP because I was getting my ass kicked time and time again so I stopped playing 2 years ago. When I bought Echos I wanted to complete MP before I got into it.

And what did you think of MP, now?

MP2E starts off quite a bit slower than MP, imho. I hope you can stick with it!

That said, if, overall, you didn't enjoy the first, you won't have much patience for the second, methinks.

I really liked Prime 1. The game is an excellent platformer/adventure game than it is an action game. The environments were all fun to play through as they are so full of gameplay and clever design. They did a hell of a good job translating the mechanics of the 2D games into a First Person 3D game and making it actually work just as well if not better.

Overall I'd give it a solid 9/10 (no decimal points on my scale) It loses a point for the overly simplistic combat and the half hearted dodging feature which is both difficult to pull off sometimes and too slow for the speed of many creatures' attacks (Such as Ridley).

In Echos I just got to the spacecraft with all the bodies around it. I really liking the Starship Trooper last stand style storyline and the art direction of the environments and creatures is already a good step up from Prime 1. Everything just looks and feels more tangible this time around. The textures on the creatures are certainly nicer and everything just has a step up in its polish.

The only thing I'm not liking right now is the shitty codec they are using for the movie sequences. I've seen the GC do much better video than that.

If I were to critique the main focus of Echos so far I'd have to say that I am a bit dissapointed that it fell back to the formula where Samus loses all her gear and has to go find it again. Perhaps they could have made it less transparent by keeping all of the gear the same yet the weapons from Prime be ineffective against the creatures you are fighting so you are forced to find alternates. That would actually work its way back into the story of why the soldiers all got wiped out, because their weapons firepower just wasn't good enough. Also they could have upped the gravity on the planet so Samus' double jump was the equivalent of a normal jump. That sort of thing.

Actually, I thought they handled her power loss rather intelligently. Most Metroid games don't BOTHER to explain why she starts off with nil time and again.

And those baddies that steal all of your powers?

Well, let's just say you haven't seen the last of them yet. *wide grin*

Oh yes, they handled it QUITE well, imho.

Omega Pirate is excellent is he.

MP is kinda unbalanced, most of the game really easy, then of a sudden it get very tough at the end.

The Beast/Pirate? guy and the last two bosses, I only finished the game cos of the free cheat disc in game mag

Drunk? tsk tsk.

I'm 1/3 of the way done with MP on Hard mode. Thadious, what's his face kicked my ass the first time but I got him back the next one. Boss fights are proving to be a welcome challenge. There is a reason to use all your missiles this time around. Also, I like the Fussion Suit. I kinda wish it was in MP2.
