MGM, EA, and Rare.

Agent Icebeezy

Welcome beautful toddler, Madison Elizabeth, to the horde!
I was reading a mag with the new guy at Warner trying to place quality back in their titles. Something like a 70% average at gamerankings or whatever. He went on to explain that the Catwoman game should have never been made given the time restrictions EA had to work with and it has tarnished the franchise is a way. I think this was XBN, not sure. Anyways, this got me to thinking about the James Bond franchise. I never got into them, but wildly popular nonetheless. Does MGM really care about the quality of the games that EA uses with the Bond name? I mean, they are very cinematic and can match Tinseltown's finest as times, but the games, on the whole, aren't good.

What about EA though? They pump out Bonds as quick as Tiburon does Madden. However, during every development cycle for a Bond game, constant comparisons to Rare's game always come up. I've always wondered about the moral level there for the development team. You are going to constantly be in a shitstorm to you get it right. Your game will be under a stronger magnifying glass. I mean, you are basically fighting the ghost of yesteryear with this game, but it's the importance of it that can't be understated. Goldeneye was a generation defining game. Then, with the use of that exact name, I thought that they would use their resources to finally pull it together. Yet again, it didn't happen. I don't know about the skill of workers at EA, I know of the money though. I'd imagine that they'd be better than the average person though.

I has been brought to my attention that EA might not be trying to compete with Rare's game. In looking at how they gobble up movie franchises, that might be true. EA is proud of their connections to Hollywood. In this case, however, the name Goldeneye gives it away.

Enough with the backstory. I guess I'm just wondering why doesn't MGM enforce tougher rules on EA. Can't have trouble with the source, no real rules you are bounded by in the James Bond world. I've been playing this LOTR RTS for PC. My First LOTR game, and I like it alot. This strengthen my curiousity. Thanks in advance

Because the games sell and make money. End of story.

I understand that, but after Rare did Goldeneye, their franchise was flying as a result, doesn't that reciprocate if the game does poorly in reviews? Or is it one of those cases about the bottom line being the bottom line?

Here's my question then, has any single Bond game since Goldeneye sold the numbers that GE did? What was it at the end, 6.5 million units sold, or something?

Capcom expected 300K sales of Catwoman, right? I'm no math genius, but is 14K combined all platforms enough for them to make money, and did the game exceed expectations? :lol

Quality = sales.
