MGS 5 or Witcher 3?

I love open world RPG's, I play Elder Scrolls and DAI and all that stuff, but for the life of me I just couldn't get into Witcher III. That doesn't mean I wont keep trying, as I firmly believe theres a fantastic game there from what I've played... Still, I'm forcing it somewhat.

I bought MGSV last week and somehow played 15 hours in a single session, breaking only for food and smokes. Never noticed the time until I saw the in game counter.

Both great games, to be sure, but MGSV is some of the most fun I've had with a video game in a while. Kojima got them gameplay chops.

Im looking for a good adventure game i can jump in and jump out of and have side quests, and other things to dig into also.
Analyzing this (arguably quite vague :P) requirement a bit more, if you focus on side quests I think you can't go wrong with TW3. I've personally never played an open world game with a comparable amount and quality of side quests. (Note: I'm talking about actual sidequests here, not map markers). It's a huge achievement in that regard IMHO.

Both are amazing games for completely different reasons. Based on your criteria though, The Witcher 3 easily. It falls in line with the adventure category far better as well.

My favourite game? MGS: Snake Eater. My favourite franchise MGS. MGSV is a bad game and when the honeymoon period is over, you'll see more people saying this.

I am literally fuming at what Kojima has done to the MGS franchise. It's worse than SE with FF.

did you not play gz? we knew how phantom pain was going to play. thats a bad opinion you got there, i'm sorry about that

I'm always surprised when people say The Witcher 3 has all these amazing side quests or story. Most amount to me turning on Batman vision and awkwardly lumbering from place to place finding a red glowing object, when I'm not doing that I'm helping some guy find his goat. Then when it comes to the main story, all it amounts to is one giant fetch quest of finding a particular person. I'm not even exaggerating when I say that you continue throughout the entire game to do monumental favors for people in order for them to tell you the location of a character. On top of that, controlling Geralt is a chore in itself and the performance on the PS4 is pretty miserable.

I was bored to tears with the gameplay in The Witcher 3, while there was many many moments of me being on the edge of my seat in Metal Gear in fear of fucking up at the last moment in a mission. Simply put, MGSV has some of the best stealth gameplay ever made.

If all you care about is gameplay and everything else is irrelevant, MGS5 without a doubt, if story and exploring an interesting world means a lot to you and so-so gameplay doesn't bother you much, get The Witcher 3, I'd recommend both, as both are excellent.

Optimization (on consoles) I can agree with, but MGS V is not even in the same league as The Witcher 3 when it comes to graphics. I've played both maxed out on PC, and The Witcher 3 looks absolutely incredible. MGS V looks good but you can easily spot its last gen roots.

Bro I know. But he wants to buy for ps4. So PC comparison is not relevant here.

I'm a Metal Gear fan, and I would tell you to go for The Witcher III.

But that's exactly because I'm a fan of Metal Gear, and none of what I expect shows up in The Phantom Pain apparently.

In terms of open world, the witcher 3. It has way more diversification of enemies than MGSV, there's actually towns populated by civilians, and the monster contracts are some of the funnest side missions I've ever played. And the graphics are better imo.

Best open world shooter goes to MGSV hands down though.

I hated playing Witcher. I might be in the minority on this but the combat felt garbage and the movement really clunky. Considering you're doing one of those things 80% of the time, I had a hard time ever getting into the game. It also didn't help that I shut down every time I open the map and see a million markers everywhere

Damn this one is a hard one, both are great games.

Saying that I think I had more fun with MGS V overall, so I'll say that. Either way you can't go wrong with either.

Want long cut scenes with a great story? Witcher 3. Want excellent stealth gameplay and superb level design? MGS V. Want a huge open world full of life and color? Witcher 3. Want combat that entails tons of gadgets, different routes, and heart pounding alarms? MGS V.

If the cut scenes and detailed open world from Witcher 3 were implemented into MGS or the depth of combat and level design from MGS was implemented into Witcher 3 there would be no game more perfect.

The big question for me is, do you enjoy stealth games?

MGS5 is a outstanding videogame, however I don't feel like going back after 3 mission, I tried I failed... I don't like stealth games

Witcher 3 thought, personal GOTY so far.

MGS5 plays better than W3, and I feel like it's mission structure is more suited for get in and get out playing.

Witcher 3 has an amazing world, exploration, and (less amazing) story aspects. Definitely pick it up at some point.

And just like that, the magic is gone.

I'm sorry, but repetitive? That's the adjective you want to use for MGS V's side ops, not The Witcher 3's side quests. Not even close to being accurate.

Loving them both equally but if you think about it, all games are repetitive.

One way or another.

Haven't played the Witcher because I shelved the last one after two hours. But MGSV is the best open world experience I've ever played. Seems I don't care about random NPC's standing in the wilderness giving me repetitive side quests. Actually attacking the enemy bases in this game is sandbox-gameplay heaven.

*Cough*

You prefer they come from a menu?

Witcher 3 all day, everyday.

MGS5 is a good game, but the story and characters are just shit. Witcher 3 was a far better experience overall. Even if you had never played previous Witcher games, you could get a sense of who each of the characters were and their motivations. In MGS5 there is no logic or reasoning behind any of the characters and no depth at all. Every cutscene brings a series of "Wait what!"s, and not the good kind either.

Don't get me wrong, the game itself is great, but the overall experience is let down by shit writing. Witcher 3 was great on all levels.

If you really want to break it down to its core:

MGSV = Amazing gameplay, so-so story.

The Witcher 3 = So-so gameplay, amazing story and world building.

Both are great games though.

MGSV's side missions can be really fun, but mainly because the core stealth and combat are really well-made. They're pretty much just semi-random exercises in that gameplay.

Witcher 3's side quests are fun because they're actually well-written. Each and every one, even a ton of the random map marker objectives, has some level of hand-crafted design or storyline writing devoted to it. There's just a bit of an issue with pacing -- if you do a lot of side content you're going to very quickly become overleveled for most of the content in the game before you can get around to it.

Witcher 3 has more to do in my opinion. Feels like there's too many stretches in MGSV where you're don't encounter anything interesting in the world and fast travel, if you want to call it that, is a pain in the ass. Of course MGSV's core gameplay is more interesting.

I'm probably very much in the minority on this one but Witcher 3 bored me to tears.

You're not alone. In fact offline most people I know feel the same way about TW3 (it being boring that is). And I can see why they feel that way. They're all loving MGSV though, even a buddy who has never had any interest in MGS before.

Witcher 3 has the better story and characters, a better open world more diverse gameplay (spells, swords, crafting)

MGS 5 has better gameplay (in terms of mechanics), a better horse (fuck Roach), and a pretty cool base building aspect. Also like the mission structure (optional objectives, trying to get better each time).

Overall i think Witcher 3 appeals more to me, since i've grown into a gamer that likes a good adventure story. MGS always has been an absolute failure in story telling in games for me. (and i know i'll get hate for that) But I could imagine that someone who likes stealth in games might think that MGS5 is better.

i enjoy both games for different reasons.

Witcher 3 bored the tits off me. The game just felt like a complete drag. Awful back and forth missions and on the whole not very fun.

MGSV is much more interesting and is actually fun. It's not perfect and has issues, but they are much less than the Witchers.

They both seem incredible to me. Thematically though, they couldn't be more different.

Do you like fantasy? Because The Witcher is hardcore fantasy. The writing is fantastic, the story lines are super satisfying, it looks amazing, and the open world is full of fun to be had. Combat is not great, and there are a fair share of bugs you might encounter, but nothing that deterred my enjoyment.

MGS5 is so finely crafted I'm constantly surprised by it. Looks great, performs fantastically, has excellent writing, has bizarre Kojima-type moments throughout, and plays like a dream. The open world is definitely a lot more one note, but the basic gameplay is so satisfying that I never notice.

Haven't finished MGS5 yet, but I don't think you can go wrong either way. Seems like a good possibility they'll be dueling for my #1 spot.

You can probably find Witcher 3 for a cheap cheap price now.

Witcher 3 is put up against a lot of games I noticed. Witcher 3 vs Fallout 4 and the next GTA will be the true question. Witcher 3 vs the world.
