MGS 5 or Witcher 3?

OP, as you've chosen TW3, listen to this man.

Seriously, turn off POIs. I've never once gone out of my way for something checklist/minor like a smugglers cache or a bandit camp. Instead, sometimes I'll find them on primary/secondary quests, or in between. Pacing is fantastic.

If you want something you can jump in and out of you can't go wrong with MGS5.

MGS5 is built almost identically to Peace Walker in the way it's mission layout is. So you gotta manually select your next mission instead of it just being a big open world.

edit - Oh i guess you've already chosen

MGS V side ops are boring as shit as well though.
"Run about until you find and blow up the land mines!"

I ain't played The Witcher III so I can't answer the OP, but let's not pretend (as very very good as it is) that MGSV isn't slightly lacking in some aspects.

After doing lots of side ops, I pretty much gave up on interesting strategies and just rushed in with a grenade and rocket launcher, as those were the quickest ways to get through them.

If you played the prologue of MGSV...

Anyway it will be interesting which climax you think was most anticlimactic. I very much enjoyed the tone and themes of MGSV overall, but I'm not sure anybody can defend the ending of the game as strong.

It's about the journey, not the destination. Then again, I'm a gameplay first guy.

I didn't like the Witcher 3 and it will probably go into backlog oblivion. I am currently loving MGSV and it will be played to near completion. So clearly MGSV.

+1 for turning off question marks for most of the time so you can come across stuff naturally while exploring in tw3.

Op, you got ground zeroes? It's pretty cheap, maybe you can get both.

Witcher 3 runs like shit on PS4 so avoid at all cost.
This is pure opinion, yes it could probably run better but seems to be just fine for the millions who bought it. Either way MGSV and TW3 both hit the spot for action and open ended gaming you seek OP, I say get both lol.

I....don't understand. I've played every MGS game to date and I love MGSV. I think your hyperbole is a bit strong.

My favorite franchise is Metal Gear Solid as well, and I do agree, that it is frustrating what Kojima have made out of The Phantom Pain. So far, it is the worst in the series, and I thought nothing could beat MGS4 to it.

I think your choice of Witcher 3 will serve you well OP. Witcher 3 really is an incredible open world RPG. I don't think you could have gone wrong with your choices though, all I've heard about MGS5 makes me want to play it pretty bad. A coin-flip would have sufficed hahahaha.

The Witcher 3 by a mile.

MGSV is great, but is marred by one too many problems in several areas. The game's promotion is nearly outright lies too.

Both are totally different but equally amazing games. You should play both.

That being said, if you have played MGS series, get MGSV. But you can get into W3 without much knowledge of previous games and you wont feel lost.

Witcher 3. MGS plays immaculately, but the latter half of the game seems to devolve into repeating many of the same missions over again. W3 is not only longer, but it actually maintains the same quality of writing and quest design throughout. Combat is also head and shoulders above 99% of other WRPGs. (I know that isn't saying much, but if you can tolerate something like TES you should have no problems here)

edit: Apparently you've made your choice already. Good call. No disrespect to MGSV, because it really is an incredible action game, but the Witcher 3 is one of the best RPGs I've ever played, full stop.

This has got to be the dumbest post I've read in a while.

I was just staring at it for a bit, not knowing how to feel...

Hopefully since OP already made his decision which to get first, maybe it'll get less hostile in here.
It's been an interesting thread, though.

Writing, narrative, character development, lore, beauty of the world - Witcher 3

Gameplay, depth, variety, customization, replayability, complexity of the world - MGSV

Both are bona fide classics, but MGS is the greater achievement IMO . Its systems, A.I., and unprecedented level of open ended game design come together to provide one of the most fluid and liberating experience I've had as a gamer. The range of possibilities feel limitless and the unscripted moment-to-moment craziness is on par with most games' choreographed set pieces.

It really depends how much free time you have. Sometimes I feel like The Witcher 3 has too much content (if that can be believed), so weigh up your investment against how much time you'll actually play it. That being said, both are great games for entirely different reasons.

If you want a richer narrative experience and a world to immerse yourself in: The Witcher 3

If you want amazing gameplay: MGSV

This poster got it right.

Personally I prefered Witcher 3, as it was easier to get immersed in its beautiful and detailed world. MGS5 has amazing and smooth gameplay, but the world itself is a bit boring, empty and static.

But no matter what, you're getting a great game - both are gonna be classics

witcher 3 all the way, at least it's a real open world and every ( or 90% ) secondary quest has his own story and you dont feel like wasting your time.

But I play games for gameplay.

i think it's fine for games to be have middling gameplay if it's light on gameplay and heavy on story, i.e. until dawn, but if you're going heavy on both they both better be great. who knows, maybe the new witcher 3 dlc, er i mean, the new witcher 3 expansion will change my mind

They're both great, but Witcher 3 is more my jam. Disagree about the mediocre gameplay complaints - performance issues aside, Witcher 3 is incredibly fun to play.

Witcher 3 held my attention way more. Right now MGSV doesn't really seem like a true open world game to me. Maybe I'm playing it wrong.

I'd go for Witcher 3.
