MGS3 or RE4?

It just sounds to me that Capcom just did their usual 3D flair of buying weapons and upgrading them. I can't wait for this game, but I'm trying to avoid any hype. As is, you should play both eventually since they're great games. But since I'm a konami fan at heart, I'd say MGS3. I really doubt RE4's story is better than Snake Eater's. I hate these kind of topics, though. :|

Resident Evil 4 - A surprisingly good pick-up-and-play game even after you've finished the main quest.
The time trial and Ada modes
add to the replay value, but even the main quest has me going back for seconds, when MGS3 never left me with the desire to play through a 2nd time (at least not immediately). I can appreciate the stealth genre for what it is, but I don't find it to be as entertaining as a top-notch action game like RE4.

MGS3 might have the superior story, but I actually enjoyed both games' stories immensely.

Hmm, that's a tough one, but I'll go with MGS3. I find them to both offer great gameplay, but MGS3 offers a whole lot more to do while also offering a more entertaining storyline with better characters. Also, both games got off to a slow start, but the MGS fan in me found the beginning to MGS3 more interesting.

I'd rather not do too much of a comparison, though, as they are both just incredible.

I haven't played RE4 yet, waiting for some b-day money coming in a week. But I'd just like to say I approve of these types of games. I'm beginning to get sick of this movement towards multiplayer. It's great when it works, which is more rare than not, but an immersive single player experience the likes of these, is what I really love. And recently I think these games have evolved the genre and have taken steps in the right direction. Like said, this game is like living out a well directed horror movie. And the closer the gamers feel to being in something that well done the more intense the game gets. The last few hours of MGS3 are simply a dream. My favorite experience this generation thus far, maybe ever.

Anyway, rock on with whatever choice but just a rant about what I love about MGS3.

- Weaving eras and creating an amazing tale, with all confusion from MGS2 resolved.

- One of the coolest beginnings to a game ever. Some people disliked the beginning, calling it slow and for me it was unbelievable. When the credits hit 3-4 hours in I felt like standing up and applauding. Only possible in a game. Also, "Snake Eater" rocks so hard.

- Creating one of the best emotional attachments to a game ever

- Free-form gameplay and gameplay which was seemed so accesible to me whenever I had trouble getting past somewhere

- Unbelievable boss fights and well rounded characters good and bad.

- The best thought out jungle in a game ever.

- Amazing graphics and the best character models I've seen in a game. Brilliant concept art for them too.

- One hell of a directing job. I never quite felt a director's touch on a videogame like I felt Kojima's on this one. All the little things make this so well polished and such a beautiful game.

I'm torn. On one hand, MGS3 still seems a bit bogged down with story and the first person shooting is not really satisfying. CQC is great though, and the last few hours are amazing.

On the other hand, I like RE4 a lot but I really don't know if it deserves that much credit for bringing the franchise into the 21st century.....when we're already 5 years into that century. It's basically just a synthesis of Silent Hill and the earlier action-survival-horror games like Dino Crisis and Devil May Cry. Lotsa shooting, and puzzles so easy that they might as well not even be there.

Both games have the obnoxious "I can't move while shooting" virus, though I think RE4's aiming is a good deal easier to get a handle on.

Probably should wait until I finish RE4 though ;)

I find CQC in MGS3 really hard, i'm still not passed the bridge yet :lol Gimme my radar back, the motion detecter isnt as clear!

Most people have trouble getting used to mgs3's controls in the begining. Well, i know i did :D

You can move and shoot and even strafe in MGS3, just not in first person, because they're not FPS.

You PS2 waiters sure are missing out on the probably superior version. It's kinda sad, actually.

Well, it depends. We know for a fact the PS2 version will have extra shit. It's just a matter if this extra stuff is enough to make up for what will likely be somewhat downgraded visuals. I already have RE4 so I won't choose, but if PS2 version has some worthwhile extras I'll purchase the game again because it's that good.

I finished MGS3 and am probably halfway through RE4 (
just got to the castle
.) That said, so far RE4 wins for me in terms of gameplay. I just can't get past the nonsensical camera of MGS3. In terms of plot and cutscenes, along with animation, MGS3 is king.

I have to admit I am not that far into either. That said, I can't even fathom why someone would say MGS3. RE4 is...something else.

I finished MGS3 hours before I went to pick up RE4, so both experiences are very fresh in my mind. That being said, RE4 is the better game in every possible way.

And, most importantly, a several month wait. Considering the game is stacked with content as is, I'd find it impossible to justify getting the PS2 version (if there's a choice).

Should have RE4 soon, but for it to be compared to MGS3 is great news for me. MGS3 is one of my GOTY choices.

I'll find out soon enough :D :D

The wait part is only really relevant to hardcore fans who can't wait, like you and I. It's not particularly relevant to most other people since one way or another they're going to get a fantastic game.

This wins the idiotic statement of the day award.

Yeah, please establish why this is wrong. If, for instance, a casual gamer has both systems... they might just get it for GC. If they heard the PS2 version will have tons of extras, then they wouldn't care near as much as a hardcore gamer would about the wait. If a casual gamer has only PS2, they're not going to get GC to play RE4 - only hardcore gamers would do that.

MGS3 pisses me off because when having a top down view YOU SHOULD HAVE RADAR!

i mean really how stealthy can you be when you cant see 2 feet infront of you. A fully functional FPS or thir person view mode would have been appreciated if there is no radar.

i don't see why everyone is creaming over re4, it isnt that great. its the same boring shit over and over again and the story is fucking nintendo kiddyfied. It aint got shit on MGS3

You have to be the only person on Earth who honestly believes this.

Unless you're being sarcastic. Because that's how hard it is to believe that anyone would say this, because RE4 is a dramatic change from its predecessors.

no, my best friend and I are huge OG RE fans and we think the game is ok but could be a lot better. First of all, its not fucking scary, second the characters and story is lame as fuck. The menu system was made by handicapped people and obviously nintendo fucked with this game. The graphics arent that great either, and the stupid physics in the world suck. You cant shoot through cracks and holes in fences and such. Lame

if youre going to kill the same looking lame ass bad guys over and over and over again. new noises and animations might be something the creators should try. Shit, the movie sequel was better. oh, the locations and scenery...NOT EVEN CREEPY

So do you actually prefer the old RE formula than RE4?
