MGS3: Subsistence TGS trailer

For those that haven't played MGS3, don't go anywhere near this trailer as others have mentioned. But for those that have, this is one of Kojima's best.

The FPS mode for the online game looks so damn killer. Trailer made me want to start MGS3 again too. I'll wait for this to be released before I do that again though....

Agreed. It's like a flashback to remind us how great MGS3's story is. Made my eyes water. *sob*

Wow, that is hot!

I forgot the MSX versions are on the disc.

We better get the 3rd disc too.

Funny that some of the best games this year are re-releaes.

MGS3 Subsistence and Ninja Gaiden Black get!

Doesn't the 'scene viewer' negate the need for that 3rd disc? I suppose it's purely a matter of convenience.

Whatever, I am mostly just stoked for that 3rd person camera. I'd gladly trade up that movie disc for a couple hundred VR missions or dogtag collection. Shit, now I'm depressed we are getting none of that.

i think the 3rd disc is a DVD disc though? like Shenmue the Movie...playable on DVD players. at least that's what i hope it is

Oh, that's possible and even more of a shame that the DVD isn't some "Document MGS3" extravaganza in that case. I really need to track down Document MGS2 still.

Or scratch that. Just slam a special Blu-Ray disc in the package complete with the 'MGS3 movie' AND a playable demo of MGS4 just in time for PS3 launch. Ya know...pull a ZoE1. This isn't scheduled for 2006 release anyway, and backwards compatability ensures adopters can enjoy subsistence and MGS4 on that shiny new PS3.

Look at this sexy thing

dunno.. the document of mgs2 was a ps2 game, i'm pretty sure this will too. although i do not know more than you.

btw i'm getting this on day one! dont wanna miss that 3rd disc.

I hope it's possible to somehow copy/use your save games from MGS3. I'm not sure I want to bust my ass again for stealth, infinite face paint, EZ gun.

Was it possible to use your save games from MGS2 > Substance?

anyone know if 480p support has by any chance been implemented? mgs3 looks horrible on my tv :(

Try and get hold of the Blaze VGA Adaptor (discontinued), this will force the PS2 to run MGS3 in 480p. It looks great.

You do need to be able to adjust the position of the picture on your display, to refine the raw image the hack outputs.

ZOE2 also looks great.

I did email Team Kojima telling them to put Subsistence in 480p.

Things like chaff grenades use the interlacing for their effects.

What TV are you using? My older Panasonic did a poor job scaling 480i images and MGS3 was very dirty looking, but the scaler in my Sony does an incredible job with it and it looks near 480p without the Blaze box!

It all depends on your set...

Its probably already been pointed out somewhere but the very beginning of the Subsistence trailer is strikingly similiar to the MGS4 trailer, only on the PS2 engine. :) Skyward shot of jets flying overhead panning to a surprising FPS view, marching forward with several soldiers past some war torn buildings, and then the poor sap on your left eats a mortar blast. Kojima is a teasing bastard, hehe.

looks absolutely fantastic, can't wait to try the 3D camera system and online. I will probably buy MGS2 Substance too just for the hell of it.

Then, along with my original copy of MGS1, I can play the entire 4-part MGS series on my PS3 :)

TGS 2005: Konami hosts Subsistence multiplayer tourney

TOKYO--GameSpot and other members of the Japanese, American, and European press were invited to join in a Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence tournament being held today at Konami's Tokyo Game Show booth. The event brought together participants equipped with helmet cameras in front of a sizable audience of Japanese gamers, who looked on through several rounds of the game's capture the frog mode. A large screen behind the presenters showed off both the in-game action and close-up shots of the contestants' mugs as they tasted sweet victory or bitter defeat. Just wait till you see the video!

Though most of the teams involved in the tournament were present onstage at TGS and played the game via local network, several teams played the game from offsite, such as one stationed at Konami's Roppongi office in the middle of Tokyo. After several rounds, the team from Japan's leading gaming magazine Famitsu took top honors, and went on to receive commendation from Hideo Kojima himself onstage.

they're gonna post a video soon. they also played some remix of the Snake Eater theme song

didn't akari uchida (rumble roses creator) mention in some interview that kojima was getting on his case for tarnishing konami's image? i guess he was joking. :lol

Man what's with these terrible gameplay demos. gg 1up, same thing happened with Dirge of Cerberus. Guy pulls out a sniper rifle and tries to shoot it without zooming in at the enemies that are far away AND they sucked at aiming.

I wonder, will the player be able to aim in 3rd person mode?
And is it possible to play the game in 1st person view?
The trailer does show the 1st person viewpoint while walking and shooting......
Did Kojima show it as a cutscene or is it really possible while playing?

(and where's RE4 impressions/gameplay vids etc. ?)

You can walk and run while in FPV like in the trailer only in the Snake vs. enemy mode. The guards are stuck in first person while Snake is played from a third person perspective. There is autoaim when you shoot in third person.

So in that mode the guards can walk and shoot in FPV.

Autoaim...hmmm.....don't really like this idea.....
So for headshots, u still need to swith to FPV.
I hope that for MGS4 Kojima will consider walking, aiming and shooting simultaneously.
Something like in freedom fighters.
I want to shoot while dodging enemy bullets.

It's why he's putting the online mode in MGS3S. He wants people who play it to tell the team what they liked and didn't like so they can make sure MGS4's online mode is done like fans want.

But you can walk, run and shoot at the same, you can even stafe if you hold L1. It'll work the same way it did in the single player portion of MGS3.

Yeah, I know, that's why there's a 3rd person cam in MGS3S.
Damn....I should have suggested the FPV b4 Kojima started working on Subsistence......
