MGS3: Subsistence TGS trailer

My suggestion to them, let us get in Metal Gears and control them during online battles.

:lol they should add vehicles not metal gear. Those tiny versions of metal gear in MGS4 would be good though.

Normal vehicles would be fine. But I want to get in a Ray and kneel down behind a building and wait for someone to round it thinking they going to hide only to find Ray waiting there for them. :P

did you see this thread ? at least a couple new screens, trailer and a developer interview.
Yeah, thx, interview + trailer, looks impressive!

What's wrong with this TGS, only next-gen stuff, although important but I want impressions from the game I'm gonna buy within a couple of months.....

re4, fps, graphics etc.....I want to know.......

I hope alot of people play MGS3S online though. It's free afterall (rite?)

I agree, I want detailed impressions and gameplay vids of RE4 PS2, MGS3S, Rogue Galaxy etc but all I see everywhere is trailers :\

MGS3S Online should be free like many PS2 games.

It could be something really awesome if they do it right. If this is Kojima's last game I expect him to give it a big send off. Bring back all the characters in the series for the online battles. Which would mean a MGS4 model of The Boss. :)

I must get this! Is NA getting the same package as Japan?

We might get the whole package because I think the only extra is the headset and they might send some of those out for those that don't have one.

I guess it could work out but there would be serious balance issues :P But something like 3 Metal Gears Vs 60 human opponents with rocket launchers would be cool.

I just want to see big maps with lots of sea, air, and ground based vehicles.

They'd need to give the MG's more weak points but it could work. You could even use those as vehicles since Rex has flat spaces on his body so you could have soldiers stand on top of him while you move around fighting. It's a warzone so i'm sure there will be big areas to fight in, i'm not sure about there being water though. That might be asking too much, but you never know.

Can someone explain how you're supposed to sneak up behind someone online when surely the view will give you away before you've been able to strike?

I never enjoyed the gunfights in MGS3 as they always seemed fairly random and mundane. The whole close-quarters-combat aspect was good and had much potential. I just don't see it translating well online. Hence I'm on the fence with this at the moment.. :\

The enemy guards will be stuck in first person, the trailer also makes it quite clear that you'll be able to use the stealth suit.

I still don't understand how the cardboxes will work.
They look like fun in trailers, but in an online-match I don't think players will fall for that.

The way it could work is by making the cardboard boxes around the levels random. They always end up in different places with different builds so you can always hide near those in a box and possibly fool someone into thinking its just a regular box.

Yeah, but then you'd just shoot any cardboard box you see. The only thing I can think of that could be used to balance that out would be to have some of the pre-placed cardboard boxes booby-trapped in some way (preferably with explosives). At least players would then be forced to shoot it from a distance giving the person inside a chance to take cover if they're hiding inside of it.

The consequences of shooting any cardboard box you come across is that you could give away your position if you don't have a silected weapon. So while that's a way to make sure there's no one there you're also risking your position.

But becos the game will be played in a 3rd person view, it's really easy to see wether someone's in a box or not through the hole from a distance.

This is going to be $40, right? They could've easily sold MGO alone for that price, but the fact that it also includes an improved MGS3, and a 3.5 hours movie should seal the deal for any MGS fan.

Don't forget Metal Gear 1/2 as bonuses!!

it's $50 :(

but if they include that 3rd disc, i'll be happy to pay full price. otherwise, pricedrop for me

The cardboard boxes are all the same in the online mode, the ones you hide in and the ones that are randomly scattered throughout the level look exactly the same.

But the eyehole may give yourself away.

I was under the impression it would be a team of humans versus another team of humans.

You're right, I worded that poorly. There are two types of multiplayer in Subsistence. First you've got the 4 vs 4 which is basically your typical deathmatch that you've seen in games like Socom or Counterstrike but with MGS flavor. The second is 7 vs 1 where the 1 is Solid Snake. This is the mode that revolves around stealth where the other plays much like any other shooter. In the 7 vs 1 mode the guards(human players) are restricted to a first person view while the person controlling Snake can use the new 3D camera.

sorry if I missed it but are there any vids of someone playing the single-player with the 3D camera, or hands-on with the 3D camera?

I'm looking for single-player impressions, specifically. I have MGS3, have enjoyed it, but put it down long ago because of camera angle frustrations (i know, i know, but I like free camera 1000x more than fixed) and will be happy to pay $50 for Subsistence, especially for online and all the bonus content.

Also, what's the US release date? I heard it got pushed to early 06. I know the story is supposed to be the best and everything and I really want to play it but I'd rather just wait until I can start over from the beginning with the 3D cam. I have plenty else to keep my attention.

The only videos that show off the new 3D camera are in the E3 and TGS trailers and there are no impressions yet. The NA release date hasn't been announced yet, its sceduled for release in Q1 2006 in PAL territores and late December for Japan.

I don't think Konami has given an official release date yet. Ebgames has the release date listed as 11/14/05. Gamestop says 3/01/06. The Ebgames date is too early and the Gamestop date looks like a placeholder since it's on the first of the month.

I would expect November for US release. At least, that's my hope. Most sales come from the US region and we've got more broadband penetration, so it would only make sense they continue premiering software here.

japan release date is december 22, 2005, if that means anything

MGS3: Subsistence details revealed

Konami lays down the skinny on online multiplayer modes and expanded portions of Snake Eater's single-player game.

Konami has released the full details on the expanded, repackaged version of Metal Gear Solid 3. Subtitled Subsistence, the game includes the full version of MGS3: Snake Eater, as well as new game features, the first two Metal Gear games, and, in a first for the series, several online modes. Subsistence will be released this holiday season for the PlayStation 2 for $49.99.

This has probably been posted already, but this is from a Konami Press Release that details the various online modes. I only knew about the deathmatch modes and the 1 (snake) vs. 7 (soldiers) mode.

Online Mode Missions:

* Sneaking Mission - One player will take the part of Snake in this online mode. Snake will be the victor if that player manages to procure something that is guarded by the other players.
* Team Death Match - Players are divided into teams to play a "vs." game within a set time limit. The team with the most remaining life tickets will be declared the victor.
* Death Match - This is a Battle Royal type of match where it is a free-for-all. The rules can be set-up such that there is a time limit with the winner being the one with the most kills.
* Capture Mission - Players are divided into teams to capture a certain object and deliver it back to their base. Players will be able to re-spawn at the starting point.
* Rescue Mission - Teams will be divided into two with one side being the defender of the certain object, while the other team will try to destroy it. The defenders will try to deliver the object to a certain location. The rules differ here in that the players that are killed cannot re-spawn and will turn into ghosts. (see screenshot to left)

MGS3:Subsistence just keeps proving its worth.

Indeed, here's some more info on Subsistence

Kojima added that the Metal Gear Solid series is intended for older audiences, and revealed that there's a mysterious "kinky theater" extra that's unlockable in the theater mode.

:lol

"I'm a bit embarrassed to show it since it's an old game," laughed Kojima, who explained that he decided to throw in the two games since that will complete a "Big Boss Trilogy" that depicts the history of the legendary mercenary. "The original games sell at around 20,000 yen ($179.38) on auction sites, so that means there's going to be 40,000 yen ($358.78) worth of bonuses in this game," Kojima Jokingly stated.

Kojima revealed that his favorite duel is the special rule mode against the game's top sniper, "The End." "Players can experience a real sniper-to-sniper battle where they won't encounter each other at all," he said. "It's real survival. When we originally created it, it could take up to about a week before one of the sides won. But my developers got angry, and it's been toned down."

The online mode will be free," revealed Kojima, talking about the price plan within Japan. "If our company goes bankrupt for the fans, that's totally acceptable." (Konami of America officials also confirmed it will be free in the US as well.)

"Kojima commented that users will have enough headaches just connecting online with the PlayStation 2 to have to worry about cost"

Kojima just bitchslapped PS2's online infrastructure!

But hes a Sony fanboy and he would never say anything negative against Sony or something positive about the Xbox. :D

/bows down to Kojima

He's so damn cool :D

oh man that's amazing... I'm definitly getting this version, when is it being released in the US? also what was the MGS 3 version with like 4 discs that was released in Japan? Will that be released her?

I wonder what other slight changes the main game will have like MGS2: Substance did to MGS2.

MGS2: Substance featured some slight graphical touch ups like the Big Shell had a more wavy looking water when you looked over the edge than the original MGS2 and all the girlie poster and magazines were all changed from FHM to random ones.

When you paused the game it gave you a 3D map of either the tanker or big shell and highlighted the area you were in for MGS2:Substance that wasn't in the original.

Don't forget the biggest change. Thermal goggles were no longer just red and looked much cooler, almost like predator vision.
