I'm starting to get really excited about this.

Hope this is good. I recently saw the MJ experience musical and that was great, people could use being reintroduced to his music or experiencing it the first time.

I'm not getting the impression that biopic will go into the controversial bits of Michael Jackson's life (his creepy enamourment with young boys, his weird love life, how his children were conceived, his addiction to plastic surgery that ruined his looks, etc).

No one wants to see that. End it with the massive launch of Bad and then call it a day.

It probably won't go beyond the 1980s. A sequel is planned though. Tagline in that poster is "His story begins". I think this will definitely address the plastic surgery because it started after Thriller. I do agree that his looks changed a lot over the years but that hairstyle was a big reason why he looked so different in the 2000s. He started to look more like himself again after brining the old hairstyle back in 2009.

I am curious what point they go up to. Like you say at some point it just gets sad and with the estate being involved I'm sure there's stuff they don't want to get into.

There has been talk that they had to carry out extensive third act reshoots after initially depicting one of his accusers and only later realising there was a settlement agreement with the estate that included a clause that they would never do that.

Huh, so they go all the way to 1993 and the allegations.

That seems silly to me, for a project like this. And it's gotten them into court with the Neverland guys, if that article is accurate, all controversial stuff they could have just avoided. Damn, if they were hurting for 3rd act stuff, I woulda just told them to go into the Latoya Jackson Playboy shoot (YOWZA!!!) and call it a day :P

Still cant believe he made himself ugly. Can allow for the odd, small procedure but geez, he was a good looking guy in his youth.

Wait, this dude was black?!

I am so tired of the pop star hagiography films. Every single one of them has the same damn template. I don't care if you had a tragic childhood and now you're so fabulous that you'll change the world with your unique whatever... somehow that has become the most dull human archetype possible. I think I'd rather see a biopic of a janitor or an accountant, that might actually feel like their life mattered.

My dad was a huge Jackson 5 fan back in the days as most black kids were. He always said to me he thought Mike was the way he was because he never got a real childhood - he was indoctrinated by the media blob from such a young age and was constantly in the spotlight and on tour.

That shit does things to you over time. You gotta remember in those days it was way worse to be a black celebrity than it is now, the media picked on and bullied the shit out of niggas man. It still goes on now but much more subtle ya know.
