Michael (2026) Official trailer

Not looking so good.

Most of those reviews are criticizing it for what's NOT in the movie... I just want a feel good movie... What's wrong with that? The original Jacksons bio-series was the same way.

Do they talk about his pedo stuff?

Surprisingly the estate were going to include this. However, as mentioned in the BBC article;

The film originally included references to the allegations, with much of the third act dedicated to a scandal involving Jordan Chandler, who was 13 at the time he accused Jackson or abusive behaviour.

But, according to Hollywood publication Variety, external, the footage was scrapped along with any mention of the child molestation charges due to the rediscovery of conditions that were part of a previous NDA.

Lawyers for the Jackson estate realised there was a clause in the settlement with Chandler that forbade the depiction or mention of him in any movie.

A series of reshoots took place so new material could be filmed, while a new ending was written so the movie would conclude in the late 1980s, before the first allegations were made.

So the critics are bad because they don't show the "dark side" of Michael?

Not looking so good.

I'm not surprised. I thought this would be awful as soon as I heard about it.

Turns out it's Bad, it's bad, it's really, really bad.

There's too many of these biopics releasing now. Saying that, 'The Dirt' and 'Bohemian Rhapsody' were really good, as was the series 'Pistol', at least those told the bad sides of fame etc. and weren't scared to show anything that could 'offend'

Its not a perfect movie but I enjoyed it a lot. Hearing the music like this was amazing. I just wish the movie was longer so each era had more time.

damn the reviews are brutal, it sounds absolute cheeks

Because it doesn't include what some have said is the 'pedo' stuff even though the movie concludes before the first allegations of any of it.

Seems a bit daft to knock a movie for what is absent if it stays true to the timeline of real life events.

In my opinion it was really good. Better than I expected and a really solid performance from Jaffar.

It was surprisingly... fine.

Of course there's a lot missing and it ends rather abruptly, but it's not the dumpster fire reviews are making it out to be.

I was a bit disappointed that they didn't include anything from The Wiz. Scenes about it were filmed apparently. My favorite moment in the movie was Human Nature even though
they used Bad Tour 88 Wembley audio for it.

Jafaar does amazing job.

Not including Smooth Criminal at any point was a bummer too.

Rotten Tomatoes audience score is 96% and CinemaScore is A-. I did like the movie but didn't expect a CinemaScore that good.

Damn, I was hoping for a scene about The Wiz.

I really want to see this, but I feel like I will cry too much, lol. I swear, the older I get, the more I cry at movies. Or maybe it's because I drink more and eat more edibles now. Whatever. I'll wait and watch it and cry in my living room after the kids go to bed.

Crazy that there hasn't been a musical artist since who has that much of an impact on people.

Who are the biggest artists in the world currently? Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, Bad Bunny? All massive, but you don't see people going into fits of euphoric delirium just by seeing them in person.
He is the last star. There will never be another like him. He lived in a moment in time that can never be duplicated. Very few ever reached this pinnacle. The Beatles, Elvis and MJ. I really can't think of anyone else.

I read a few of the reviews and stopped. They seemed to bitch about what it isn't instead of what it is. Go figure. I guess those that aren't creative themselves, review those that are.

Critics tend to want things new, challenging, unexpected, and "deep".

Normal people want to watch movies to have a good time and escape for a while.

A biopic on Michael Jackson was going to divide them on that before even getting into what "should be" in the movie.

Watched it in IMAX, really enjoyed it.
The sound was incredible.
If you plan on watching it, do yourself a favour and do it in IMAX.

Madonna was better.. she's just not dead, that's all you need. Michael was the greatest of all time, but he was extremely formulaic too..

True

There really hasn't been anyone since MJ of that same status.

Madonna was not better nor was she on his level.

Also saying Michael was extremely formulaic is a wild claim to make, considering the man consistently evolved his music over the decades. His Jackson 5/Off the Wall years was disco/funk, Thriller was a fusion of pop/rock/R&B/funk, and it was the era in which he modernized the music video and gave them cinematic level production. Then you had Bad which had that sharper and more aggressive 80s style pop to it. I could keep going but he was always shaking things up.

You think these four songs from different Eras follow the same formula?

Took my mama she really enjoyed it I liked it too never knew about the accident where Mike got burned in the victory tour. Not too short not too long music was good nice dancing and Mike's nephew played him well enough I'll watch the sequel when that comes out

Seeing a few clips of his concerts. The energy he gave during the performances and the highness of the crowd is insane.

Still thought it was a movie for Halloween just called "Michael".

MJ was absolutely beloved, not my kind of music but I liked the hits like thriller, and alien ant farms, than there's the focus on the plastic surgery, the baby etc.

My wife really loved it, I liked it well enough. It really is a basic film though with puddle depth. There's so many fascinating events in Michael's life that the film didn't touch on. Whenever it shows him in concerts or how he went about making his music, the movie slaps. But when it comes to the drama side of things, it barely touches on any of them. I feel like Michael deserved a lot better film. It was kind of a huge missed opportunity.

For example, it didn't even show him when he won his eight record breaking Grammys, and the Jackson Brothers might as well have been props in the background. They were barely developed.
