Transformers was pretty much the only Bay movie I didn't absolutely hate sitting through. Pretty good actually, but it did still have black people acting KERAZZZYYY. He even managed to have a cooning ass robot (who TBH I did like), which I didn't even think was possible.

It's more than a coincidence with this guy and I'm not seeing things. Is it really that hard for him to have black characters that aren't complete cartoons?

are you kidding me?

which black people were acting crazy?

and the robot was a jab at internet thugs.

btw. every person in the movie was a 'cartoon'

I agree, I was dissapointed with the way they had Jazz "act". Sometimes I just get tired of it.
I actually like Jazz. But when he first introduced himself, by brother and I just looked at each other "Did they really just...?"

Although very blackified(I apologize if this term offends anyone), I felt that Jazz acted a lot lot his generation 1 counterpart. I remeber Jazz being a lot like that in the original series

What? No.

I don't see any probs with black people in his movies, sure the "Black guy got killed" in transformers but that's about it, and as if black guys can't die in movies now, because it's racist...

I don't see it man.

Let's be real.

Gun to your head you're gonna say Jazz was black. Bay isn't known for real characters, but he gives black people that little oomph.

The loud mouth black guys mom flips him off.

An entire family of screaming, dancing, loud talking friend flipping fat dancing negroes.

The black guy getting shot in the asshole and crying about not getting it on with his wife.

The fat black mama pressing her two kids into tits cussing up a storm and throwing Jay-ZUZ in for good good measure.

Dumbass Jamaican/West Indian(like Bay gives a ****) screaming a bunch of gibberish getting shot to holy ****ing hell.

And every single one of em is gonna at some point

A. Scream like a child

B. Cry

C. Go on a profanity laced Jesus hallelujah filled rant

and/or

D. Look like a bug eyed fool.

Some people don't see it, open your eyes and look a little harder. It's there.

Yeah, G1 Jazz was pretty much an animated Scatman Crothers.

Jazz struck me as less of a shuck'n jive stereotype and more of Scatman Crothers is just that f*cking awesome. :P

As for the original question: Is Michael Bay from Utah or something?

Seriously. Which ethnic group was shamed by John Turturro's character? What about the teacher at the beginning? Were Sam's parents any less cartoon-like than any of the black characters you mentioned?

I've never really analyzed Bay movies like that, but what you have seems to be a list of stereotypical Black movie character traits. It isn't just a Bay thing it is a Hollywood thing.

He doesn't even deviate from it a little bit. Sure it's all over hollywood but he seems to specialize in it. Maybe if he threw in an honest black character just once (or his movies weren't so terrible) I wouldn't notice.

I'm not saying it's malicious. It might not even be explicitly his intentions and that really is all he knows what to do with black people.

I have always wondered why Hollywood doesn't make black characters act normal. Denzel, and a few other notables are the exception but its as if the other 80% if male have to be loud, say funny things or make a race joke. And whats worse is that a lot of time they seem out of place and just seem to have been throw in to say; hey look here is a black person in this movie. For those that are black does that offend you? I hope it doesn't offend anyone but I find it irritating especially the race jokes.

And actually I saw a similar post to the OP's on another forum. A few were pissed they made Jazz the "black robot"
and the fact he got killed
.:lol

Thanks for putting a spoiler tag on that. I really appreciate it.

there are the humiliating/supposed to be funny bit parts he puts black people in with his other films.

-the rail car driver in The Rock
-the street toy salesmen/meteor victims in Armageddon
-Micheal Clarke Duncan in Armageddon
-most of Bad Boys 1 and 2

of course my perception could be tinted by my very strong hate on towards Micheal Bay. What a champion grade wanker.

Those who consider Jazz a "black robot" are the racists. I know plenty of white kids who speak that way. Talking a certain way doesn't effect the color of your skin, not that Jazz had skin. He was silver in this movie, I believe.

Anyway, black characters acting all "crazy" is not something Bay should be criticized for. It's something the public is responsible for. The popularity of Dave Chappelle, Eddie Murphy, the Waynes Brothers, and Tyler Perry movies suggests that people want to see these types of characters on the screen. Bay is a pro at "mass appeal" so I'm sure he's throwing in what the public wants for good measure.

Personally, I think it's sad that we've come to the point where a movie like "Die Hard" has to thrown in a bunch of bad guys from different races just to avoid being protested by some ultra-sensative minority group. Nearly every comedy has a nerdy white kid in it that's made fun of. How come we never see a protest by a group of those?

Don't forget sassy black receptionist in The Island.

It's a Michael Bay trademark. Like how there's no ugly women in any of his movies. Not even "tv ugly".

I haven't seen Armageddon since it was new so I can't speak on those, but Bad Boys? Bad Boys has a cool Black action hero. Martin is a clown so you should expect him to make an ass of himself, that has nothing to do with Bay.

You guys are way to sensitive.

There where stupid white people in the movies, at least the ones you mentioned where funny and cool to watch characters.

And what about bad boys? What's the problem?

Man get past the damn color. Hell why don't you guys just tell me how a black guy should be portrait in a movie? There's stupid and crazy and funny looking white guys in Bays movie too.

But i guess that's normal...because white guys are just like that.

I agree it's not something he should be criticized for. People want realism and unfortunately to everybody, except Black people, the sassy receptionist (this isn't just a Bay hallmark), the asshole police chief, or the classic "mammy" character is what the general populace thinks is real enough. Show a suave Black character and they better be played by Denzel or Will otherwise the audience will get confused.

Besides the obvious stereotypes, I liked that the movie contained a very ethnically-diverse cast. Turturro was a nice surprise, especially.

What? There's tons of "normal" black guys in movies.

I think his point is that the black characters are made "stupid" because of their race.

jazz was like that in the cartoon and they poked fun at it by saying he learned it on the internet.

that loud mouth black guy's name is Bernie Mac, and he played the same exact character he always plays.. even on his own tv show.

ive seen movies where old white grandmas act the same way. it was a funny moment, why should the color matter?

are you talking about the hispanic guy? there was nothign wrong with the way he was acting. im hispanic and i was offended.

in fact, i saw the movie here in miami. 90% of the theater was either black or hispanic, and everyone had a great time watching the film. laughing, clapping, having a good time.

btw, are you black?

If you think the black people in the film were acting dumb, you should have seen the ones in the lobby of theater I went to. Jesus Christ, talk about reinforcing racial stereotypes.

At one point, this hoodrat whipped out a pre-paid cell phone and, along with her friends, began to dance to some rap ringtone.

I'm talking about his other movies (Bad Boys, Armegedon).

I'm sure you could but comedy is not the ONLY THING the white characters are there for.

And yes I am black. So what?

I think I see the problem

Being loud and white = Being loud

Being loud and black = racial stereotype by the casting director/director/producer/wardrobe guy.

right?

He was cooning though. I noticed the samething but choose to ignore it duet to the hotness of the movie.

Give me a break. You're basically saying that understanding cultural signifiers (something that's been done since the beginning of culture) makes someone racist? Disney movies must be a giant jumble for you then.

Dali said:
It would be easier to concede the point or contest it if you listed a few.

This is stupid but ok.

Let's take Michael Bay movies.

So Bad boys, we have Will Smith who plays the bad ass, and Martin Lawrence who plays the comedian. I don't see anything wrong here. Bad boys 2 had some crazy jamaican guys, so what?

The Rock, as far as i can remember, the black guy was a mercenary, and didn't have anything out of the ordinary about him.

Armageddon. So we have Clark Duncan, who is a big ass guy, and he himself in real life is a realy laid back and funny guy, he plays a funny part in the movie, but he doesn't look crazy, not crazier than the white dudes on there at least.

Pearl Harbor. Cuba, what was wrong with him? Great fighter, and played a cook. Don't see anything.

The Island. I only remember Clark Duncan, nothing out of the ordinary.

Transformers, the military, seemed fine, and the transformer, which sounded like a nerd and did die, i guess that's bad....

Now other movies? Ok so we should take Denzel And Will out of the equation, hell might aswell take Morgan Freeman too or this is gonna be easy.

Just from the top of my head, movies with a main or secondary character played by a black dude:

- Colateral. Jamie Fox. Did i miss anything here?
- Miami Vice. Jamie again.
- The matrix. I don't think Lawrence Fishburn had anything wrong going on.
- Mistic River. Lawrence again, he's normal in the tone of the movie.
- The Departed. The black hacker from Transformers.
- Gone in 60 Seconds. The black cop.
- 1408. Samuel Jackson
- The negotiator. Samuel Jackson
- Star Wars. Samuel Jackson, normal in the tone of the movie
- Unbreakable. Samuel Jackson
- Die hard with a vengeance. He's just as normal as Bruce Willis in that movie.
- Phone Booth. Forest Whitaker
- Crash. Don cheadle and Terrence Howard.

Now i'm having a hard time keeping it to normal, because it's rare that we have normal characters in movies at all. But i can keep going if "normal in the tone of the movie" is accetable, where the black guys are just as normal as the white guys in it.

And that's just from the top of my head. Obviously this is somewhat ironic given my avatar....

Does no one remember Djimon Hounsou in The Island? :( If Bay is making it a point to use his movies to advance racist ideals, he is doing a very poor job.
