I'm guessing what happened is that he only had sex with and intentionally infected the two confirmed victims in the article, and he felt guilty enough about that to turn himself in. Once he was in the interrogation room, he decided to grossly exaggerate the number of victims possibly to get others to practice safer sex or maybe just to stroke his ego.
It makes more sense than him (or anybody really) having sex with 3 different people everyday.

Well I think similar numbers have been done before, at least the men who did them claimed it was true. I realize with the case of a male model or somebody like Charlie Sheen people are less doubtful but still I remain confident that some men can truly get that number of women. It is often unnerving for men to imagine that there are other men with all this "success" though I guess when the guy doesn't look good and is evil those feelings are reduced to a large extent. Anyone who actually gets to these numbers are doing it for more than just sex.
