Microsoft cancels post-E3 media roundtable

Damned straight. The reason PS4 is so awesome is that Xbox 360 taught them a lesson.

Looks like the tides may have turned this gen.

Competition is a good thing.

We all have our preferences and mine is Sony (though i do spend an absurd amount of money on the 360 and wii/wiiu) but there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that Sony as of this moment is WORLDS better than Sony of six years ago and that's because Nintendo and MS ate their lunch. They came off the ps2, the most popular console ever, and thought they could do no wrong. Turns out they could.

MS will learn from this as well and be a better company for it. It's just a matter of when. Doesn't seem to be happening soon.

My paintshop skills are bad but this pic just cries for cernyfication of kazification....

There's many ways to look at this.

1. They don't know themselves what it is, and how much this is going to restrict/limit gaming

2. They don't know because they are waiting for Sony

3. They are somewhat more scared of answering questions from multiple journalist at one time

4. The know everything and are going to be addressed everything at the presentation (which would be dumber than any of the above, so is highly unlikely)

I'm betting on no.2

The problem with no.2 is if Sony comes out and all their answers are pretty much everything we want to hear or somewhat close, Microsoft will be dead in the water. How can they spin it back in their favor? I think they are in a lot of trouble. Maybe Bill Gates needs to come out of retirement and tell Norman Osborn to take it back to formula.

With the amount of bad PR swirling around Microsoft it's actually kind of hard to pinpoint what pushed them over the edge to where they didn't want to take questions from the media. Sure one on one interviews haven't been cancelled yet, but what happens when they are with journalists like Geoff or Ryan from GT? They will get softball questions which they can basically give pseudo advertisement responses too.

Just my opinion but I feel this is going to do more harm then good for them, even if they are holding strong on the DRM front.

This is clearly being done so they can avoid questions about things like "always online, uswed games, etc.". M$ clearly wants to keep the truth concealed about this console.

I see this as one of 2 things: Sony has the same policy as them or near enough and they can let the shit fall on them for a bit or Sony has a different policy and MS have no counter so better to shut-up.

At this point you normally think both companies knows what the other is going to have in their conferences....but at this point in time....I think MS has the advantage because it would seem that not even they themselves know what they are going to reveal.

There would be plenty of companies willing to step into the breach.

who? I don't think there's a line of companies eager to jump in to the industry.

MS worked their asses off to compete with the playstation brand, and their presence really whipped Sony's arrogant asses in shape this gen. MS has lost their focus, and there's going to be a strong gaming focused ps4 to capitalize.

The latter seems more likely since Sony has already said that you can use the PS4 "old school" style without an internet connection. Which seems like the opposite design decision that Microsoft has taken with the Xbox One.

But I guess we'll know soon enough. I still think Microsoft is going to avoid talking about it at all, since it can only be perceived as a negative to the consumer. There is no positive way or reason to talk about it during the actual conference, unless it's to say "And you can play used games just like you did with your 360, free of charge." Anything else looks bad, no matter what. Consumers don't give a shit about stopping piracy, we're not going to see cheaper games DRM or not.

Nailed it, people seem to forget this is what happened

Sadly, M$ has enough monet to survive 10 Xbox flops and more.

While that may be true, there was already talk of selling off the Xbox division before the thought of the Xbone. I don't think the Xbox brand stays under the Microsoft umbrella if the Xbone flops.

Xbox has never made them money; unlike Sony with PlayStation, they do not need Xbox to survive. If Xbone bombs they will not try again, they'll just cut their losses and consolidate the business to their core products. There's already internal pressure to do it.

I think this is right. The Xbone is the make or break moment for the program.

I'm repeating myself, but do we know who they'll be inviting to these one on one interviews?

If not, when are we likely to find out? After the interview or what?

Don't be so melodramatic. The XBO is not going to flop. And if it does, MS will not give up on owning the living room.
It's not melodrama, it's a pretty obvious extrapolation from the way they've treated their previous market failures. They tried with Zune for a while and killed it when it became clear it wasn't working.

And I'm talking about if Xbone WiiU's here, not if they're as successful as, say, 360.

Perhaps the parent company, but not the gaming division. The success of the 360 really may prove to have been a fluke. Look how poorly they handled GFWL and gaming in Windows 8. There are obviously some very poor decision makers in that company when it comes to DRM.

Disgusting if publishers actively took money to not even have their games on the show floor.

that just feels like a sign of the poor health of industry. Sure, we'll take your free money to not show off our games at an expo dedicated to just that.

Regardless of what happens, there's still plenty of time until launch to show off demos and trailers of games for both consoles. Might as well take the money.

With a week away from E3, they have to have those interviews set in stone already. The mayhem usually starts 4 weeks prior to the show.

I wonder why Kotaku, Polygon and so on are so quiet about the cancelled post-E3 round table? Haven't read a thing on their pages yet.

Well, paying 3rd party devs to show only Xbone games could be that 'kill' that guy from marketing department predicted
