"Microsoft no longer offers new entertainment content for purchase, including movies and TV shows, on Microsoft.com, Microsoft Store on Windows, and the Microsoft Store on Xbox. However, you can continue to access your purchased content in the Movies & TV app on Xbox or Windows device."
Presently there is no explanation for the decision. While people can still access their previously purchased content, Microsoft cites its terms of service saying that "Movies and TV shows are ineligible for refunds."
Microsoft's support site adds that users cannot directly transfer purchased TV shows and movies to another service. Microsoft originally launched a movie and TV storefront in 2006.

U.S. customers can use Movies Anywhere to 'connect select purchased movies' with participating retailers, but that service isn't available for customers outside North America.

Hardly surprising. Sony already did this years ago. The licensing costs and negotiation headaches are just too much for too little return. There are so many outlets offering purchase and rental of digital and physical movies and TV series it's just not a space that consoles need to be in. Streaming killed the need for the "all-in-one box" that Sony was trying to make with the PS3 and Xbox tried to make with the XB1. The Smart TV is now the all-in-one box where you can just download whatever app you want to subscribe to or purchase/rent content from and you're off and running without the need to powerup any other device. It's 2025 how many people don't have a Smart TV at this juncture?

I spent a massive chunk of Rewards points on Lord of the Rings and such things. Hopefully they will let me transfer it all to Amazon or Apple.
