More layoffs coming to Microsoft. WARN notification proof

Now, imagine Sony copying Microsoft business model and saying is the best for gamers.

Nah. Not gonna happen to Sony.
Would we even notice?
What good studios does Sony has left beside Housemarque and Team Asobi?
Bluepoint has been downgraded to support studio and everything else is making DEI female strong stunning and brave characters life stories.
Sony could close all their AAA studios and I wouldn't even notice it.

Seriously, how many *REALLY* good games can we say MS has created since the X360 Gen?

Maybe a dozen or so?

Killer Instinct, Gears Ultimate, Gears 5, Forza Horizon games, MCC, Grounded, Sea of Thieves, Ori, Avowed, flight Sim, Indiana Jones, Outer Worlds, Minecraft Dungeons, Tony Hawk 3-4. (15-ish games over two gens) Anything else?

Then look at the Xbox OG and X360 gen in comparison and see how many. Big difference.
Ori was 3rd party. MCC and Gears were remasters. Avowed and Outer Worlds were very mid/good for GamePass. So yeah, not a lot of good games over last dozen years. :(

I actually think Avowed is better than people give it credit for. It isn't Skyrim though. But, i don't believe for one second that MS or Bethesda will be able to replicate Skyrim. Seems unlikely to me. Outerworlds has potential.

I will say of all the acquisitions so far, Bethesda has been good overall, but Obsidian doesn't seem to miss (yet).

I will agree to completely disagree here.

I will never get the fascination with layoff posts, it's litrelly the life of corporate worlds... Go search layoffs and every single year as far as the internet reaches has mass layoff posts somewhere and guess what, games still come out in fucking droves yearly... Like sure it sucks I get it but to me it's always been trimming the fat in these huge corporations, I dunno I think people just love to doom post all the time or some shit.

I'd imagine the fascination is that when Microsoft does it of late, they tend to kill games and studios.

Many are expecting Ninja Theory to be taken out next as they are almost done porting Hellblade to PS5, it releases next week in fact.

I wouldn't be surprise given Hellblade II performance.

I don't think even the PS5 port will save them.

We wouldn't care so much... Except this usually started with purchase of studios. Just as EA was vilified for laying off people after buying beloved studios in the 90s.

If are going to lay them off, you shouldn't have hired them.

"Company X has Y number of employees and makes Z profit after expenses"

Microsoft: "Buy them. Fire 80% of the staff and replace them with crappy AI. Our profits will be significantly higher than those suckers paying actual humans to make games".

I hear ya but I just at the end of the day guess I find it par for the course ultimately, these companies will forever do what they do, nothing can change it or stop how they work. But I guess I always feel people just try to spin it as some foreboding dire thing when it's something that has happened for decades

And just think, if Microsoft hadn't purchased all these gaming companies needlessly, most of those people would probably still have a job. Sure there would have been some layoffs, but not to this extent when you have so much job crossover within a company. Especially one that's pushing their own AI heavily.

Polyphony Digital is objectively the best PlayStation Studio.
Bluepoint wasn't exactly downgraded, look at their contributions to both Demon's Souls and God of War Ragnarok, they're largely the same.

They canned Romero… you do not stand a chance here unless you're Phil Spencer. He's bullet proof.
You think so? I think he'll be let go eventually, and it'll come as a surprise to him like he did to the others. Just my opinion, though.
If he does not get the axe and even gets a promotion or some shit? I'll eat baked crow.

They should close the entire fucking studio. Fuck Halo Studios they ruined what was once Microsoft's biggest franchise and one of my favorite franchises of all time.
For sure, and them having done this FOR OVER 10 FUCKING YEARS is one of the most mind boggling this i have ever seen in the whole industry. And this is not some random IP either. We're talking about their flagship title. Like wtf.

Absolutely. Halo is part of the reason Xbox is even a thing still in the first place. They took one of the greatest FPS franchises of all time and drug it through the mud for a decade. Infinite is the best thing they have managed to make and it's still mediocre at best now and was terrible for quite awhile. They took everything Halo was about and reversed it in order to make something of their own which if they wanted to do that they should have made an entirely new IP to shit on.

Nothing in gaming gets me quite as pissed off as what Microsoft has allowed to happen to their flagship IP.

I guess they gave us this but too bad it was in such a bad game.

You must be a fool to think that it is worthy to 'give more' to a company with this culture. I can tell from experience because I WAS a MS contractor 11 years ago, it was 'amazing'how the seniors liked to public despise anyone that showed any sign of 'new knowledge'.
I work on meritocracy basis.
If I don't perform - I leave. If I can't perform - I leave. If I don't get paid for my merits - I leave.
Sabotaging your job because your boss/employer/contractor are awful ain't gonna work and besides some moral self-satisfaction will bring more harm than good. If you stop working on mood swings it'll be detrimental opinion of you and you never know whom from your current/past jobs you'll meet in the future.
And of course you'll climb a lot of positions on the list.

I agree but…..Well…. I'd Atleast like GT on PCbefore they go all tits up. And an OG god of war trilogy. Their best years are behind them and it's the fans who have not caught on yet. It should be obvious from the rate of their output ( remasters of their best hits and nothing much else, all of PS5 gen) but people will soon catch on…… 😬

I mean I'll name a few but we all know how this is going to go with your reply. Here we go:

Indiana Jones
Doom: Dark Ages
Grounded 2
Oblivion

All good to great games. Now your turn. Say the line.
Unfortunately several of those likely underperformed (Indiana Jones pisses me off as it is genuinely a great game, have yet to play the latest DOOM despite having GamePass). Oblivion pisses me off as it shipped in a mega rough state and it will likely never get fixed… it did scam several people though :/.

It really is. I seen YouTube videos saying the same thing. No real future in coding. 😬
I think there is a future but only one that AI prompter experts can endure

It will get to the point where all base level code is comodotized and free, so no need for entry and mid level engineers will be needed for anything. The real professionals will still be required to architect complex systems but will use AI heavily for the legwork.

if you think thst a company that cuts jobs almost in a random way and uses Ai texts to say they are sorry-not-sorry uses meritocracy, them you ARE a fool. 😀

ans im saying that working for a company that applies meritocracy in a more fair way - heck, im leading a 6 man team and im a remote third/party contractor!

There is no "more fair way" in meritocracy.
MS for sure loves it's money and if you can sell your work as pivotal for bringing in money, I'm sure you'll be fine even in the most toxic companies.
But point is not about internal MS culture, it's about that giving up your work, even if you think that's "it's unfair", is not a good decision when you still employed.
