I'm still convinced this game is funded mostly by the CIA as a way to suss out 9/11 style terrorists using it to make practice runs.

Boogles my mind that it's all on game pass, spent waaaaaaay too long just cruising around.

Right? I don't know what the sales numbers/rate-of-return is, but if they're underwater on it, makes me think there's an ulterior motive.

curious to know how this runs on a series X/S.
I play it on a series X and its beautiful. Never tried on a PC but I can't imagine there is much more room to improve. Though if you spend a lot of time at 500 feet looking at buildings then there is some jank which I'm sure has specific model packs for key areas. I've not messed with all the night skyline stuff too much and there have been numerous upgrade packs for ships and whatnot. The Halo Pelican and the fighter jets all run well.

It's a totally different ball game.

Especially with some of the extra planes you can't get on consoles, well, in every area really.

Pricey an all. Piss taking infact. I keep getting my collar felt for this or that plane and airport add ons.

AM5 doen't support ddr5 7200?

If you don't know what you're doing you will have stability issues out of the box, thats if you can even get it to post. The newer x870 boards will support it (and some x670/B650 boards with a bios update) but you will have to manually set the ram to gear 2 (2:1 ratio for UCLK:MCLK).

So your effective speeds will be slower, at which point you'd have been better off getting lower frequency memory (6000 is guaranteed to run at 1:1 and 6400 will only run at 1:1 on some processors if the memory controller will accept it, but it's a lottery) and running it at 1:1.

TLDR, if you're on AM5 get 6000 CL30 and call it a day, or try CL30/32 6400 if you're willing to gamble and have a good return/exchange policy.

This was some of the most impressive things I ever seen in gaming. What they were able to accomplish is insane.

And knowing that most things are just streamed from the internet makes it even more unbelievable. I think this is a first for gaming, which was being talked about for almost a decade. Extremely impressive.

Actually, let's cross our fingers Playstation users will have access soon. This "game" deserves maximum reach.

With more than 800 people working on this sim, the project is too big to not be fully multiplatform. So I have a feeling it'll happen in reasonable time.

Yeah.. It's astonishing. The download for this locally on PC/XS is only 20GB compressed now but the streamable planet data is 2 PETABYTES. I find that fascinating.

WHAT! Unbelievable.

I wonder if this tech can be remixed for other games. Maybe a new Forza Horizon based on the whole planet? Not sure how possible is that.

I would love if they drop the "Flight" in the title and just make a "Simulator", and keep making it bigger over the years, with cars, boats, etc. Hahaha

If I wanted to play the last Flight Simulator on the Series X, am I going to be doing myself a disservice because the controls or whatever might change with the new one?

It's not the same thing. Now they're streaming absolutely everything besides the core tech.

Just watch the video.
I didn't say it's exactly like that.

WoW do something like this to. You download just the core and can already play.

This is the relative comparison between 2024 and 2020 btw:

All the stuff in yellow is now moved into the cloud (and pulled into the rolling cache when needed) as well.

And this is what it'll do to waiting times (decompressing) during install, it's a massive improvement:

Same when f.ex. doing updates, like big world updates. Good times.

Come now, it never took TWO HOURS to launch!

And if it is all in the cloud, what is the bandwidth use? Guess it isn't really an issue these days for most of us.

When installing the game? For some it did for sure. Also depends on CPU and Drive bandwidth btw.

IIRC, 50Mbps internet is recommended (10Mbps minimum).

Eh, I've never seen the time to download the install be cited as a "feature". Come on, you only do it once! They are just trying to gloss up the cloud computing. I wonder if specs even matter, is this thing just streaming video to us now?

You are taking one data point and for some reason taking it out of context. It's all connected and contextual. Fact is, install time, install size and loading time are all massively improved.

Keep in mind that most of the negative downvotes on Steam was generated because of the lack of this "feature". And it was not just the install, it was every update (and load times every time you play).

Streaming video...? I think you're a little bit confused about how this fundamentally work. The whole simulation engine is massively upgraded, its granularity and feature set are massively increased over 2020. There are more things going on locally in 2024 than in 2020.

Am I mistaken that they offloaded a ton of stuff from your local hard drive up into a cloud (airports, etc)? Where did that 100 gigs go between 2020 and 2024? Is it an online only game now? Before you could at least turn off traffic and weather to limit data download, now it soulds like it MUST be downloading all the time, in which case why not just go to a streaming only version?

Essentially there's basically nothing you could do in 2020 that you can't do in 2024, including, I assume, the same offline play features (thus with no live traffic and weather).

That's why I'm not sure why you're on this angle.

This is insane, I watched it all. Holy shit, including things like animal migration is extreme.

The career progression would deffo make someone like me check this out

Of all the fuck ups Microsoft did in the last 2 gens this is the best thing that came out from their side and if this was Xbox exclusive only and no pc port this would've given them millions of consoles sales

So am I safe with playing 2020, and that I can take my acquired knowledge to 2024? Or will it somehow play differently?

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

2024 has more 'friendlier' modes too, so you'll probably have a leg up with prior 2020 knowledge.
