Xbox is bringing its "stream your own game" feature to PC. On Tuesday, the company announced that Xbox Insiders with a Game Pass Ultimate subscription can try streaming the Xbox games they own, including some that are available on console only, directly from the Xbox PC app.

I wonder if this is their "solution" to their handheld and future consoles playing Xbox-only games...

Curious how this will compare to GeForce Now.
For as much as I have bad things to say about cloud-gaming - GFN is - shockingly competent quality, latency and even UX, and actually gives a decent experience of 4k gaming if you can't be bothered to buy local hardware.
It's not a replacement - but if you're not playing action stuff, it works out pretty well especially considering GPU prices nowadays.

GFN is incredible. Xbox streaming has historically been pretty bad. But hopefully they can figure out some improvements.

Streaming is a nothingburger. You already can stream on PC on a browser. This is just integrating it into the app which is good. This can't be their entire BC solution. It's just putting obvious shit in the app that is already on PC.

Just shows that the PC app is a work in progress with updates coming.

This would be neat if it were as good as GeForce now, but Xbox streaming is absolute ass. I have no faith in this.

It's just xCloud which is to say it's notoriously one of the worst in terms of image quality and latency. GFN is much better. if you want to see how it is you can try it with fortnite for free I believe.

When's the last time you tried it its a good bit better now than it was a year ago
I've tried it fairly recently, but it's been via xcloud on iOS, which are hardly ideal conditions. It's still bad there, but it wouldn't surprise me if it was much better on PC/elsewhere.

If Sony were making all these moves, and with all the rumors going around, Moore Law is dead, we'd already have an internet circus about Sony abandoning consoles and making a trashy streaming service to pretend it has retro.

Jez would definitely have heard about this by now, just like he heard about the PS5 catching fire and Sony being desperate.

So I assume it's quite possible that it's true.

All third parties have not allowed MS's "SX emulator" PC to run their games, and when they announce it, it will be "retro Xbox SX" streaming.

They also have the bonus of being able to charge an "online fee" on GamePass Core to run this streaming.

You guys can try and push this. Its wrong but have fun.

P.S. Sony has handled PS3 BC with streaming for a very long time. No one said that.

Cool, but still requires Ultimate Game Pass so... meh

If it was on PCGP maybe. As a PC gamer (heh) I would not subscribe to Ultimate for this feature. As a console and PC gamer, it is a nice perk if I already have GPU. It is still not something that would make me subscribe. I guess this is one more perk to try and retain any GPU subscribers that abandon the console and move to PC.

No they already said they are working with AMD to bring Xbox BC on the hardware level.

Unless they was fast talking us and the hardware they was talking about is the online servers 😭. But more than likely it's both killing 2 birds with 1 stone because they will need servers in the future that's not based on Xbox Series that can still stream Xbox Series games.

Thing is, while I like Geforce Now and never liked xCloud because of the bad quality, I played UFC 5 on xCloud and got perfect quality. It looked almost identical to running it natively.

I am confused, so some of these games might be good on xCloud.

Streaming is the only way BC can feasibly work in a PC environment. Completely native BC will require a dual-boot method that doesn't include the PC side/stores/OS.

Really good to see Microsoft remain laser focused on what their customers want, and that they aren't getting sidetracked by useless bullshit that nobody has any interest in.

Where'd they say that?

In the AMD video she said " And we're doing it all with Backwards Compatibility "

But like I said they could have been doing some fast talking.

But in that case Sony would be calling the PS1 , PS2 & PS3 games on PlayStation Plus BC .

Without a bitrate increase it's night and day. Xbox seems to have more games people want but they latency and clarity are miles behind

I"m never going to stream games.
I'll just hope my XBox One X can survive.
If worst comes to worst I'll look for a dirty and dented used Series S stacked in a corner of a Mom and Pop game store.

The truth is, nobody cares about retro gaming. But Xbox and Phil made a big deal out of it, as if it were the greatest thing in humanity. Phil Spence said he lost the competition because of the PS4's legacy library.

This is obviously the lie Phil told Nadella.

Phil Spencer made the Xbox SX much better than the PS5, and I bought the PS4 last generation. What do I do if I want to buy the Xbox SX?

a) I leave my PS4 for the legacy library and my games purchased in the PS4 generation and buy an Xbox SX for the new generation.

b) I have to shove my PS4 up my ass to buy the Xbox SX.

The proof that Phil Spencer is a crook is this lousy excuse for an incompetent employee.

The reason no one buys the Xbox SX is because Phil is incompetent, idiot and dumb who only messed up the console (12tf garbage that loses out to the PS4 10tf) and the games (monkey Craig in Halo) and it's not because of the "legacy library of the PS4"
It's quite simple:

1) If the Xbox SX had better hardware than the PS5

2) If the Xbox SX had better games than the PS5

What would I do?

I'd leave my PS4 for the legacy library of my games on PSN and physical media

I'd buy an Xbox SX for the new generation and the new games

Phil Spencer is an idiot. The Xbox SX hardware isn't better than the PS5, and the Xbox software, games, aren't better than the PS5, which is why NOBODY wants the Xbox SX.

It's NOT because of the legacy library, for fuck's sake.

Why are people even talking about this? It's just Xbox Cloud with your purchased games included even if they aren't on Gamepass. It's still the same worst quality streaming in the industry, and now you'll play Xbox versions on your PC. Woohoo? Nobody wants this.

Potential subscription price going up again.

Its not going to save Xbox.
Subscriptions only going up. For ever and ever.
Netflix is so expensive I don't know why we bother anymore. Kpop Demon Hunter? I could have rented it one Amazon….Nope it's not there. :(

Not for me. I think ive streamed for all of like 30 minutes since the feature launched and that was just to test it out. Give me native or nothing.
