Microsoft making at least four new IPs

Hey Feef, this guy is going to Europe. I wonder why?

Dreams shattered! :P

Hopefully there's more than the 3 games that derFeef mentioned
.

Think of it this way. Those are the 3 everyone mentions. None of which are connected to the large number of studios, the oldest dating back almost 2 years. So ya 5...safe bet.

Not sure if it's been mentioned before, but I was told by a friend that BigPark Studios is now working on a "AAA new IP" for Microsoft. I asked for more and all he said was that it is not a motion control game.

BTW, this is coming from someone that worked for them for 8 months in a co-op programming position.

You really trying to screw the guy over?

Crytek is also in Europe aka hoping he sees something good with Ryse.

Speaking of which there was talk of Ruffian working with Cryteck on a possible multiplayer aspect of Ryse not too long ago.

Getting hyped!

FM5 won't happen, and rumours are pointing to it being targeted for 2014. If anything, it will be PGR5, after all that heavy hinting in the other thread.

Forza Motorsport 5 is coming out in 2013, they've already made it clear that Horizon and Motorsport are year on and year off counterparts now.

This makes sense, though I'm just going off of rumblings that Forza devs wanted more time. Also, PGR5 is much more heavily rumoured to hit this year, would make sense with the launch of a new console and all, and how pitting two racing franchises against each other at once wouldn't make much sense. I can see Forza in May 2014, too. I know that's their plan with Forza as a brand in general, but a lot of stuff changes when transitioning console generations, including budgets and changing the scope of projects. That's why I buy T10 wanting more time, to be the second punch in MS' racing game strategy being kicked off by PGR. FM5 also being in May makes sense if they're going to cycle FM, FH and PGR.

BTW are you the same FordGTGuy from ForzaCentral and BC.net?

I have no problem with buying Forza 5 and PGR5 in the same year. No problem at all.

DAY ONE.

Man, I'm so excited for the second half of this year.

This makes sense, though I'm just going off of rumblings that Forza devs wanted more time.

Them wanting more time makes a lot of sense even two years isn't much time to develop a game and for 3 & 4 I don't even think they got a full two years. However the final decision is not theirs and is ultimately Microsoft Game Studios decision.

Also, PGR5 is much more heavily rumoured to hit this year, would make sense with the launch of a new console and all, and how pitting two racing franchises against each other at once wouldn't make much sense.

Rumors really amount to nothing, we have no idea if what is coming will even be called PGR let alone published by Microsoft. Forza Motorsport and PGR cater to much different sides of the same coin, I only see them competing on the level of both being $60 games at launch and nothing much more than that.

Personally If they did have a PGR reboot and Forza Motorsport 5 at launch I'd buy them both.

One thing is clear if they are going to add PGR to the cycle they are going to either have to release PGR this year and let Motorsport have a extra year or launch Motorsport this year and let PGR have three years extra.

I think it's more likely that if PGR comes back it won't be in the Forza Cycle but release the same year as Motorsport but months apart.

BTW are you the same FordGTGuy from ForzaCentral and BC.net?

Yes.

The rumours have been of it being called PGR, and corroborated by multiple industry folk in the other threads.

But regardless, even if they are different games at the end of the day, making them compete PERIOD is a dumb idea, and will never happen. If a kid wants a 720 for Xmas, his parents aren't going to buy him two racing games, just one. The effect of two games within the same broad genre releasing close to each other and eating at each other's sales is clear, part of the reason why Blur likely bombed, and completely avoidable. Plus having a diverse lineup for launch is also of utmost importance.

This is why it is most likely ATM that we'll get a PGR in the fall, and the Forza cycle will be delayed a few months to a year.

I could take PGR and Forza cycling with a delay between them. I don't think I could do it at once; I just don't have the time for games that I used to and would hate to budget time between two mistresses :(

I don't see Forza Motorsport being the game that is delayed, it's more likely PGR will release a few months after release.

Horizon is a series now? If that means Horizon 2 is on Durango, I'm happy. Best racing game I've played outside of SSX Tricky.

If Horizon 2 wasn't coming Playground Games would no longer exist most likely. If they did continue to exist I would think we would've heard that Microsoft dropped them as a 2nd party.

I see Forza as most definitely the game being delayed. A new PGR is tradition with a new Xbox release, and Microsoft is also more willing to pump more money and more polish time (especially to let them figure out and optimize the new hardware) into Forza instead of PGR now that Forza is their new baby. It just makes sense for it to work that way, and what few and frail signs we have too are pointing towards that.

PGR, as a game that is generally flashier and more on the arcade side, makes more sense as a launch title. I think FM5 will be teased at E3, if not earlier, but it's not coming out this year.

One thing is clear if they are going to add PGR to the cycle they are going to either have to release PGR this year and let Motorsport have a extra year or launch Motorsport this year and let PGR have three years extra.

There doesn't have to be a regular cycle for any of those games, even FM. We shouldn't infer too much from the past practice.

So launch window could look like:

Lionhead’s New IP, Rare’s New IP, Kinect Sports 3, PGR5, Alan Wake 2, Ryse, Destiny

And then second wave:

Halo 5, Forza 5, Black Tusk’s New IP, Skybox Sports’ New IP, Platform Next Studios’ New IP

Third wave:

Epic’s New IP, MS Victoria’s New IP, Lift London’s New IP, Redmond’s New IP, Press Play’s New IP, Connected Experiences’ New IP

Fourth, Fifth & Sixth:

Sequels, sequels everywhere.

Or is that too optimistic?

^^ Pretty decent guesses.

Do take into account that they are partnering with more developers. Seeing as the Core initiative started in 2009, more games might have been added to the roster.

Damn.. When you put it this way, I'd feel less bad sticking with MS next gen.

You have missed MS LA, Big Park new AAA title and Soho Productions, plus the way they have been talking you can expect most of the new studios will have multiple teams.

MS LA and Soho Productions are TV studios if I'm not mistaken.

Bigpark should be working on new a game though.

True that. I’m not even going to try to predict future collaborations; never would have guessed Obsidian before last year.

That depends on what you mean by launch window. Lionhead's game is probably a fall 2014 game.

Edit: I kinda doubt that Skybox Sports is developing a game http://www.microsoft-careers.com/go/Skybox-Sports/343330/

Your list is pretty good though. With some Twisted Pixel madness added in, it would definitely be a lineup that I could get behind.

Damn, you’re probably right about Skybox.
I almost put Twisted Pixel, but there’s no telling whether they’ll focus on XBLA or retail next gen. And there’s undoubtedly dozens of XBLA projects we have no idea about yet (besides maybe Class4).

BigPark could be doing a AAA title, but then who’s doing Kinect Sports 3? One of their Euro studios perhaps?
I'm assuming Soho and LA are just Casual/Kinect studios, like Good Science, Kids and Lifestyle Entertainment, Playful Learning and LEAP.

Yeah, there seems to be a push in Europe.
Microsoft Studios (MSS) Business Development Team is responsible for working with independent developers and strategic partners that help us create the next blockbuster 1st party franchises and to build the Xbox brand in EMEA. Your goal will be to engage with developers and high-profile content partners and to find companies, concepts, licenses and characters within the EMEA territory that fit into our brand and product portfolio strategy. You will join a team of diverse, dedicated business development experts to contribute significantly to the future of MSS’ portfolio and success.

Role and Responsibilities

You will be responsible for driving the complete negotiation and evaluation process, including:
*Evaluating concept submissions, content providers, IP holders and other potential partnerships in the connected entertainment sector (games and entertainment);
*Organising pitch meetings;

*Coordinating due diligence;
*Driving internal approval meetings with senior management;
*Successfully negotiating high value deals with complex term structure;
*Driving contract execution.

Cautiously eager to see these IP, it's a tantalising thought that they could live up to Crackdown, Mass Effect or Viva Piñata. On the other hand, I'm not going to rule out an absolute disaster from incompetent Microsoft.

I agree. Given the shite they've produced for the 360 over the past few years, I would not be surprised if they fuck this up too.

Nah Soho Productions did Sesame TV Kinect but there is way too many people for them just working on that...

MS LA I s'pose your right...
Maybe. I agree that we shouldn't write them off completely, but I don't think we should expect to see a game from them either.

As you said though, it's a big studio. It wouldn't be the first time that a MS studio went into a different direction.

I almost put Twisted Pixel, but there’s no telling whether they’ll focus on XBLA or retail next gen. And there’s undoubtedly dozens of XBLA projects we have no idea about yet (besides maybe Class4).
The same could be said about PressPlay though. Hell, we don't even know if they're going to develop games for the Durango.
Chances are that they're going to focus on Windows Phone and Surface.

Honestly I don't expect Kinect Sports 3 at launch/launch window - I actually expect Relentless Software doing a quiz game for Kinect and/or the Kinect TV series.

Personally I honestly don't expect any Kinect required games coming out launch.

Kinect will almost certainly be bundled in so I expect many games to require it. I also expect several broad audience/casual/family exclusives at launch, you're not going to see a clear-cut core-first-casual-later approach this time around.

Kinect Sports may or may not be there, but I'm currently leaning toward the former - it will have been two years since the last game in the series.

I don't at all. They'll go for the core user and casual core( i.e. Call of Duty crowd) then two years later go for the casual user. I expect Kinect to be built in to encourage more development, I also expect more family games just using the voice and controller no motion dancing around the living room stuff.

.

that would be a huge mistake. no casual gamer/kinect fan is going to buy a new (probably very expensive) console. and the hardcore gamer will hesitate to buy a system that (heavily?) targets the casual/kinect crowd.

the people that show up on day 1 for a new console are the fanboys and hardcore crowd.
