Microsoft making at least four new IPs

Thinking about it, it was quite staggering just the progress that Microsoft made from last gen to this gen. Achievements, XBLA, NEX etc... Things that automatically made you knew you where next gen.

I wonder if current Microsoft will attempt to make such things, instead of just giving us Xbox 8 RT.

I have a PC. The absolutely only thing that matters to me is exclusive titles to these systems. Since Kinect, the Xbox 360 has become a wasteland of horrifically controlling garbageware, including the Kinect Sports abomination that you're lauding here, the system has basically been devoid of any interesting exclusive properties. It had ONE game since Kinect came out that I was able to fall in love with, and that's Forza Horizons. And even then, I'm just being nice - everything from them is fucking Fables, Halo, Forza or Gears or some shitty Kinect game that only a mother could love.

So if because of Microsoft's new focus they have no compelling exclusives, the system is basically worthless to me. That is what they have become since Kinect.

Well I guess if exclusives are very important to you then the Xbox would not be the place to go for next gen. And I say this as a big Xbox advocate. I love the system and I'm getting the 720 probably on day one. And this is because exclusives don't matter much to me. What matters more is the entire Xbox environment. Online play, XBLA, friends, party chat, achievements, apps and loads of incredible software. The software might not be exclusive but it's there and it's glorious.

RPG huh? Marlow Briggs - RPG set in noir futuristic world. MY GOD! I hope that's what they have planned. :D

good find. so we definitely know they have at least one first person and one third person shooter in development?

Also a new RPG IP from Lionhead, and an action/adventure or FPS from Rare.

How many of the people responsible for Banjo Nuts N Bolts are still working at Microsoft or Rare? Because if the number is high then that could be promising. Nuts N Bolts was a remarkable game. Fun, bright, cheery, happy-go-lucky, beautiful, with unique game play that forced the player to be as creative as possible.

How do you read twitter? It's always a head ache for me.
The first tweet is just a random tweet that was done, the second one is reply to the first tweet and the last one is a reply to the reply (:P).

Here is some more random speculation:

You know, though, that you can have everything you mentioned here as a #gamechanger for you on the PS3 too right? And some of those features dont even need to be paid. And what are you implying with the "glorious" about multiplats? I can understand your comment though, if by all that you mean all your friends play on the 360 so you feel the need to pay to play it as well.

I thought The Samaritan was rumoured to be an open world action game like Prototype?

It was.

Same exact spot I'm in. I need true exclusives, which means no PC releases either otherwise I'll just buy them on PC.

You're going to be pleasantly surprised.

Insider info? I'm not expecting much besides a B or C tier Sony studio making an exclusive, like Sucker Punch.

MS had a fantastic launch but post launch was woeful- the wait for oblivion was excruciating.

I blame that on more of a lack of XBLA titles... There really wasn't much to tide us over - don't even think Microsoft was exactly prepared for how popular XBLA would be :p

I doubt that'll happen again since they have xbla up and established now. Though we'll probably hit a retail drought still. That's just how it always works out.

Dont MS have most of the talent behind the first Dead Space as well? I remember reading they had one of the gameplay designers.

I did admit there is very little that is exclusive on the 360, didn't I?

But this is why I don't really like to get into these kinds of console discussions. Because there is very little I can say to justify the Xbox as a premiere platform. Everything that is good about it can be found somewhere else. 3rd party software is on the PC and PS3. XBLA titles are on steam. Even 1st-party software like Halo is on the PC in the form of Games For Windows Live.

It's not exclusive, and I just don't care. I turn on my 360 and it gives me everything I need in one little box, whether or not the same can be done elsewhere does not concern me.

You cant really play Halo on PC...

But yeah, I kinda understand how you think. I guess.

This. I didn't got my Xbox for Exclusives neither. I did it because the Arcade version was affordable and it played everything I wanted.

Sony fans seem to have trouble understanding that few give a shit about thier exclusives. Yet still they throw it in our face.

In fact they spend more time talking about exclusives then actually playing them lol. Seems that way to me.

1 thing to expect from every company going forward is to never assume.

Even Nintendo will not disappoint at E3.

Yeah, I understand people assuming based on previous conferences or whatever, but they have to understand this is way bigger than anything from these last years. And I'm sure there will be some Kinect focus, but I'm expecting it to be much better than its predecessor.

I used to say this phrase a lot " If you want Exclusives, Get a DS". I have in my home a 360 and a PS3, I only play fighting games and Netflix on the PS3.

Because of the Free Online and Not needing Gold to use Netflix. There's Uncharted 3 and Dust number something sitting in there, case unopened, code untouched. I can honestly say that I don't care for any first party PS3 exclusives. I think free online is a bigger deal.

Also I don't care what you say, Xbox Live is so much better than the PSN interface. It's like they try their hardest to stop you for playing your game.

The only thing I'm cautious of in terms of exclusives, is them actually delivering. Some things are just shit happens situations, and you can't really avoid it, but some things are actively bad form. Announcing two exclusive PS3 Final Fantasies, one of which wasn't, one of which is still not out. Announcing Agent when it was a logo. Worst of all, announcement exclusives, which both have done, and is complete bullshit.

I don't remember Microsoft over promising, so it's not so much on them, but Sony really need to not be full of shit this time around when it comes to exclusives.

I'm getting kinda sick of shitty posts like this. Kinect, ads, Kinect, ads. Does anyone actually believe this mass delusion that gaf has?

every time i enter an xbox thread i expect someone to say something about ads/kinect and then someone to quote them with "." or "first post got it" it's getting repetitive but oh well lol.

Delusion of a lot of ads on the dashboard or MS's large focus on kinect?

The ads situation is certainly overblown. Unless you count every game, show or offer to be that, and even if you go by true advertisement. (the ones are are catalog as so) It's mostly games.

For example showing a trailer or Crisis, or that The Cave is out. They aren't in your face neither, much tamer than before.

Hey man, it's fun, don't you understand? It's supposed to make us laugh and not care about the actual topic.

overblown depending on how much ads you want on your start up screen.

Is it that hard for you to understand why some people prefer the 360 over the PS3? XBLA, superior multiplats, Live/Friends and the exclusives are the reason why...it's pretty simple actually.

overblown depending on how much ads you want on your start up screen.

I don't think I have ever seen you say anything positive about 360/MS...is everything 360/MS that bad for you? just curious.

Also for someone who's disappointed (as you pointed out numerous times in numerous threads) with his 360 you sure like the 360/MS related threads a lot.

Because it adds nothing to discussion at hand? Nobody in this thread is going to deny that those replies are nothing more than self satisfying digs and are far from what the actual topic at hand is.

Well then, you're definitely going to be surprised. Stuff may be further along than you think.

On topic, i'd be quite surprised if Epic lets another new IP of theirs become a console exclusive. They've talked about how Gears could have been bigger if it were multiplatform in the past.

Regarding the focus on kinect, I always found naive the people who expect MS strategy at the beginning of next generation to mirror the one they have at the end of the current one. I think it should be obvious to anybody, and of course to MS, that you don't target the same market with a $400-$600 console than with a $200-$300 one (and their strategy has been successful in both situations).
They need a lot of impressive "core" exclusives to sell their console to the early adopters, especially knowing that they will be releasing at the same time as Sony. The announcement of 4 new IP is good news, but no surprise at all.

absolutely. such a strategy also affords them option of not having to worry about a large number of exclusives coming the same year, like sony will have to juggle.

I have no doubt that sony's first parties are incredibly talented, but if they show games later this month that don't look that much better than games like the last of us, god of war, beyond, etc, it's not going to be pretty.

I think they will, but there's that lingering doubt. the games mentioned above look incredible, it's hard to imagine how first wave software will look that much better.

I'm interested if they will bring back Perfect Dark or any other old Rare IPs. Killer Instinct 3 would make a perfect launch title IMO.

So i wonder if these people went to one of their current studios or if they are opening a new one.

I still hold out some hope for a Perfect Dark reboot. Also did they ever get that situation with the Killer Instinct trademark sorted out? I remember them having trouble renewing it.

Rare might be up to some big stuff, but I doubt KI3 is one.

Willing to bet they'll test the market with an XBLA release first before giving a green light.

On topic, i'd be quite surprised if Epic lets another new IP of theirs become a console exclusive. They've talked about how Gears could have been bigger if it were multiplatform in the past.

Actually, they talked about how of course it would be great if they could put Gears on every platform out there, but how working closely with Microsoft has brought about a number of advantages, including their testing facilities and marketing support that helped make Gears what it is today. I fully expect them to partner with at least one platform holder on a new exclusive IP in the next few years, if not with all of them.

If MS were to be developing 4 additional IPs, what studios would they be using?

United States

Connected Experiences – Untitled Project – Design Large scale multiplayer title and help other first party studios
Good Science Studio – Kinect Adventures, Kinect Fun Labs
Kids and Lifestyle Entertainment – Next generation fitness project
Microsoft Studios – Los Angeles – Next generation core cinematic title
Microsoft Studios – Mobile Gaming – ilomilo
Platform Next Studios – Next generation core title
Playful Learning – Next generation family project
Skybox Sports – Next generation sports project
Turn 10 Studios – Forza Motorsport series - (2 team studio)
Twisted Pixel Games – The Gunstringer, LocoCycle - (2 team studio)
Xbox Live Productions – South Park Let's Go Tower Defense Play!, South Park: Tenorman's Revenge, Avatar Kinect

Europe

Lionhead Studios – Fable series, Black & White series, Unannounced MMO-like New IP - (2 team studio)
Lift London – Multiple Cloud Based gaming projects
Rare Ltd. – Banjo-Kazooie series, Viva Piñata, Perfect Dark series, Kinect Sports series- (3 team studio)
Soho Productions – Kinect Sesame Street TV
Press Play – Untitled Project[24]

Canada

BigPark – Joy Ride series, Kinect Sports: Season Two
Black Tusk Studios – Untitled Project - (2 team studio)
Microsoft Studios Victoria – Untitled Project

This is just a copy paste from Wikipedia(so accuracy is obviously suspect considering most do not have citations) and I removed obvious ones that would not be making new IP like 343i and the liaison teams.

I hope the Kinectimals Developers (Frontier or something I think?) are working on something. I damn love graphical tech they used, so I would be up for Kinectimals 2 or some mascot platformer....wait, I wonder what Banjo would look like with this tech. Seems very suited.
