I agree on that just wanted to point out just because is a "Positive" Xbox thread that doesn't mean people can't have different opinions.

Have all the opinions about the subject that you want. Positive or negative. About the subject. If you want to cry about XBL pricing, this isn't the subject for that.

And you're aware that we have message subjects for a reason, right? If you want to cry about XBL, create a thread. I'm sure it'll get lots of responses. I'll contribute to it. This thread's subject isn't about XBL pricing, or Microsoft "definitely raising the price of XBL next gen". It's not about having different opinions. It's about being intelligent enough to know where to put that opinion.
Ehh... the thread is about MS stance in their services and is a broad topic so expect a lot of derailing, like right now lol... but yeah I don't support trolling either.

It's all well having opinions, i don't get why people who've said they've no interest in the next Xbox insist on spending all thier time in MS threads saying the same old comments.

It's like how many times do they need to say Live is shit? We get it, they don't like it or MS, but other people do.
I can't disagree with you.

Edit: BTW I don't own an Xbox 360 either and I don't support MS stance about charging for online play but I'm definitely interested in buying the next Xbox specially if the rumors about the Respawn game being exclusive are true.

It's strange that there are no Microsoft studio game leaks yet.

There are no games in development.... kidding. Seriously though. With the news of the "6 month delay" and some studios only recently starting to develop games for the Nextbox is a bit disconcerting.

I'm sure they have a couple games that will be quality launch titles, which is more than the Wii u seemed to have at launch. Hopefully their "Launch Window" won't be 12~ months like Nintendo's. Same for Sony.... Launch window is first 6 months IMO.

Get out of here with that constructive criticism. I got all 3 consoles this gen, and might get all 3 next gen (pending Wii-u pricing, and weather Microsoft gets their head out of their butts) Very few people want to see a console outright fail. It is bad for the industry as a whole. Exclusive titles start bankrupting companies if they are on consoles that don't succeed. (assuming there are not huge kick backs for making the game(s) exclusive)

whats wrong with letting the mods deal with thread shitting?

Better then thread cops like Baconsammy shitting on posters.

anyway, yeah, enough with ot stuff.

I think of all the past and current things MS has done to generate profit....and got me thinking.

What if MS themselves leaked the always online with the backlash known to be the result. Then they leak that it's always online will work offline.....with details like initial online verification and unlock costs to play used games....a ruse to get us to be all happy with the steam system of verifying new games?

I'm saying...the best predictor of douchy buisness practices is last indicators.

I'm guessing that "Always On, Always Online" was a marketing term that spiraled out of control, probably with the help of dev kits requiring internet access to operate (so MS could monitor them).

MS has kept a pretty tight lid on nearly everything related to Durango, even forbidding devs from announcing games, so it makes sense to have everyone on the same page ad they enter the home stretch before the big reveal.

Well, this is good to hear. Looks like the majority of people on this forum want Microsoft to fail for whatever reason though...

It's actually just about Microsoft letting their own employees know that when it comes to movie watching and single-player games, that they're not forcing an always-on connection. Got nothing to do with XBL/Services.

I love how negative rumours about Microsoft are taken as truth quickly, but any good rumour has a lot of people trying to debunk them uber-fast lol

E3 is going to be a graveyard.

I kinda figured there wouldn't be that many leaks and if there were any it would be in a more controlled fashion. If Microsoft has perfected anything across it's company in the last 5 years, it's locking down everything pertaining to a project. Hell, they beefed up security at the Xbox division last year in Redmond as what must have been a full steam ahead push internally.

and it started here on gaf. So saying MS doesn't pay attention to forums is wrong in fact as well as in spirit.

Without a doubt Sony/Microsoft/Nintendo all have people who are on sites daily seeing what the gaming community if buzzing about each day. They have to watch trends, it would be stupid not to. How they react to the vocal minority though is entirely different. I think Nintendo have their heads so far up their asses that they can't hear everyone yelling at them. Microsoft is currently in a state where it's "the system isn't public so don't respond or else" and Sony is patiently waiting for Microsoft, while slowly feeding us info.

It's actually just about a rumor, the one about an Ars employee having some source who fed him an "internal e-mail" that states those points.

They are wrong for being so certain that it was going to happen.

Design/Plans change over time. There is no reason to believe that they did not initially (at least consider) the always online plans. It obviously was not going to be successful, however that did not stop Sony from making a all digital version of the PSP.

Down the line we could see an always online version of the console..... which actually is likely to be the "subsidized" model of the Nextbox.... that has to check (at least monthly) that the subscription has been paid. Otherwise you get a brick until you pay your dues.

well this is awesome news indeed, but I wouldn't be surprised if up until a few months ago MS had the intentions of implementing the always online function but saw the consumer backlash and decided to kibosh the whole thing all together.

Sounds like the rumored 360 Mini, which also may have been the source of the Edge/Kotaku rumors.

I don't doubt that as it is a "all digital box", however I still think it (should) have offline. I can see it (like the Subsidized Nextbox) contacting Microsoft on a weekly~ basis. The Subsidized Nextbox will have monthly fees. They need a way to "persuade" people to pay their fees each month when they get a $200~ deduction at initial purchase.

That's a universal thing. It happens in Xbox threads, Molyneux/Kojima/Cage threads, WiiU threads etc.

People just can't help themselves.

I won't say with conviction that nobody at MS pays attention to GAF, but that story picked up traction and was everywhere so the visibility was beyond GAF. If it held to just GAF then I doubt anything would have came from it.

How can you say this? what led you to believe such a thing?

u understand that there r 40 millions of ppl that u r drawing like perfect idiots right?
u understand that ms as a company and not a charity mission....is there to make money..and xbl made it while psn....is being pretty much a loss for sony ...till psn+?
u know that if u love cinema and u cant use netflix (coz theres isnt in your country) the only possibility to watch decent (no pirated streaming) on a console is on xbox?
stop with this boring thing about xbl

ppl know what they r paying for.....they arent idiots and if they do ..theres something that they like

i got bot console ps3 and xbox...and i pay for xbl coz i can use it for cubovision and mediaset premium....

Please don't take it the wrong way but man, slow down, capitalize your sentences and stop throwing periods around like confetti, one is enough. Your english is fine but your posts are really grating to read, people will take you more seriously if you don't write like a 13 year old on gaiaonline.

This thread proved some people need a break from Gaming side for a little bit. Some of the back and forth on here between the 2 sides...and the witch hunt going on is scary.

That said, glad that it was cleared up. Well see how it all goes on the 21st.

Why people do/act like this is the more interesting aspect. I never understood the determination myself even as a kid and I suspect some are between 20-40, if people didnt reply to it quite a few would stop imo

Good lord. I have a feeling we'll never hear the end of this from some people, even after the console is out.

It hurt Kojima the most, the downgrade from TGS 2005 trailer to E3 2006 trailer was massive. Kojima had to abandon his vision for the game thnx to that downgrade. No wonder why Sony didn't work with nvidia on Vita or PS4.

I think they conned Microsoft too with the Xbox GPU.

There was another dev whom stated they were "sort of" happy with PS3 but also said, it wasn't what they were told.

Just had a chance to read through the OP and most of the thread - Assuming this pans out to be true... there has to be one mega-crow-eating thread.

I've been saying for ages that it was foolish to believe that Microsoft was going to give up marketshare and whatever else, to go for an always online system.

It's a laugh though - so many people adamant that MS were going for this. Now the rumour sites can just say 'old rumour', 'change of policy', 'new information has come to light' etc. No sweat off their back.

I look forward to a significant number of people assuming that forum rage somehow made Microsoft make a huge change to it's console/living-room device plans - when it's more likely that someone somewhere, misconstrued the concept of 'always on' - or even the '3rd Parties can force online' concept.

?? Ars Technica is just like 99% of other conglomerate owned sites that depend on advertising to make money. They were pretty good pre-sellout tho.
Name a website that doesn't rely on advertising money and doesn't use a sub model. The point is they don't go out of their way to start unfounded gaming rumors for clicks.

Don't want to get involved in the arguing that is probably going on in here but wanted to say: thank fucking Christ. Now both next-gen consoles can start out on equal ground which will benefit everyone.

I'll be waiting for official confirmation before getting excited. I still think games will require people to sign in once every 30 days like Steam's offline mode but hopefully not.
