Microsoft: Next Xbox will work even when your Internet doesn’t

Lol what?

Yes please continue to give the company that keeps Netflex an Internet browser and Youtube behind pay walls the benefit of the doubt.

That would explain why they've stopped putting more and more "free" services behind the paywall. Your assertion that Microsoft knee-jerk reacts to forum ragers is funny.

Because people continue to pay them for their rip off service this generation.

So if you think for one second the MS suits weren't looking for a way to further lock Xbox users into their ecosystem and continue to rape their wallets with "always online" and "No used games"your nuts.

Given the constant shit they're given for it why haven't they changed that then?

Because people continue to pay them for their rip off service this generation.

I guess I'm nuts then.

Who says knee jerk? This would be a simple firmware change. And as greedy as MS is even they have people to monitor forums and read the internet. They woke the fuck up to how HUGE a mistake this would have been the changed it.

Because internal e-mails are never intentionally leaked to the press to create a story?

It would be disingenuous to think otherwise, true, however that still doesn't validate the article as being anything but a rumor still.

Just because Ars posted this doesn't change that fact, but I guarantee you all that if some other 2nd tier blog picked this up, we'd be seeing a lot more naysayers.

Just playing Devil's Advocate here guys. :P

There is no such thing as a simple firmware change.

This thread proved some people need a break from Gaming side for a little bit. Some of the back and forth on here between the 2 sides...and the witch hunt going on is scary.

That said, glad that it was cleared up. Well see how it all goes on the 21st.

I should just auto-ignore anyone with a Kaz avatar. This is getting stupid.

Man after reading these posts in the thread I see shit has gotten REAL. I'm kinda glad to hear some positivity towards the Durango because that's my second choice after purchasing a Wii U.

u understand that there r 40 millions of ppl that u r drawing like perfect idiots right?
u understand that ms as a company and not a charity mission....is there to make money..and xbl made it while psn....is being pretty much a loss for sony ...till psn+?
u know that if u love cinema and u cant use netflix (coz theres isnt in your country) the only possibility to watch decent (no pirated streaming) on a console is on xbox?
stop with this boring thing about xbl

ppl know what they r paying for.....they arent idiots and if they do ..theres something that they like

i got bot console ps3 and xbox...and i pay for xbl coz i can use it for cubovision and mediaset premium....

Don't think it is that easy to be honest. If they were going the "always online" strategy they likely would have been basing their entire OS on that idea. Reconfiguring could take 6 months (lol)

Don't get burned twice! Joking aside I'm glad there are some positive rumors. I think consoles might die if the Wii U and Nextbox both flopped.

Please feel free to do what you like. I'm just stating my opinion of the situation just like you are. If you want to put me on ignore because I'm taking into account Microsoft recent history due to my avatar

Well.... what ever makes you a happy GAF poster.

It's a pretty popular opinion on here and it's one I share. They've already raised the price once. What's stopping them from doing it again? It's not a matter of what, it's a matter of why not?

One price increase in what...11 years?...is suddenly a trend, huh? Man some people really feel the need to take any positive news and drag it into the mud. :)

Thankfully it looks like Sony and Microsoft are learning.

You have Sony's utter stupidity in system design going out the Window with PS4, and I think we'll see some sweet first party games, and no RROD from Microsoft this time.

I'm curious, what consoles do you own? I plan on buying them all...as I can afford it..and they can't "rape my wallet" unless they start asking for like $5k a month for Live. ;)

I'll be paying for PS+ and Live. :-p Doesn't even bother me one bit.

Well I would imagine that an "off line" mode would be there already for development kits and demo kits. IF "always online" was the plan at first, but would should just be a matter of turning off Internet verifications for single playing game modes.

Holy Fuck. Translation please.

lol I know right? Man I really would hate it if I had to live in a Sony only world. I really don't see them having anything to offer me but a new console to work with my TV.

before or later ..all console will become always online..#deal with it

if not this gen the next is sure

No, what you're actually doing is going into a positive Microsoft thread and shitting. That is what you're doing. The topic is about Microsoft not forcing online. If true, that's a good thing. But you saw that subject and thought it would make for a good opportunity to say "lol Microsoft is greedy", "XBL is a ripoff". Bravo.

Holy Fuck. Translation please.

Not all of us are native English speakers. I believe he's from Italy or Spain.

By having every dev kit contain always-online for gameplay, Microsoft can track the internal testing of all teams involved in all of their projects.

So for example, some rogue employee takes a screenshot of Halo 5 being played on Durango. Thanks to Durango being always online, Microsoft can trace the exact moment and the exact machine that screenshot is taken in a manner of hours and quarantine the studio to isolate the rogue agent.

This still won't rule out the possibility of online activation for games. Yet it opens a much better scenario than the one pictured by recent rumors.

Of course, the existence of such a mass e-mail implies that this is a recent change in policy. My work never sends an e-mail to everyone to say, "Just FYI, the policy we've had this whole time is still the policy. Keep doing what you've been doing."

Well, he has a point.

It'll interesting to see what exactly they've got planned for the 21st of this month. Services? Games? Services and Games?

before or later ..all console will become always online..#deal with it

if not this gen the next is sure

Hopefully, all the angles for possible issues would have been resolved by then.

I think that would bother the non-core/non-PC gamers.

It's another thing that doesn't bother me though IF...IF they have sales like Steam. I have my gaming RIG to compliment every console that comes out....so I'm use to Steam/cheap PC game sales (and no used).

I don't think they'll do that though....well, outside of maybe a small "fee"/"pass" for an online game.

ok but saying xbl is a ripoff etc etc etc...is just stupid as saying psn is a shit coz have no xchat

And you're aware that we have message subjects for a reason, right? If you want to cry about XBL, create a thread. I'm sure it'll get lots of responses. I'll contribute to it. This thread's subject isn't about XBL pricing, or Microsoft "definitely raising the price of XBL next gen". It's not about having different opinions. It's about being intelligent enough to know where to put that opinion.

Well, he has a point.

They're still six months away from launch, two weeks away from announce. This might be the first email of this kind they've actually sent out to everybody working on the new Xbox.

But by all means, spin good news in a negative light if it floats your boat.

It's all well having opinions, i don't get why people who've said they've no interest in the next Xbox insist on spending all thier time in MS threads saying the same old comments.

It's like how many times do they need to say Live is shit? We get it, they don't like it or MS, but other people do.
