So gamers are genuinely concerned about this direction. Many here in the thread who have absolutely loved their 360 are saying they'll reluctantly turn their back on MS next gen. But in Giespeak it's a "group of people" wanting to "push a narrative." Polygon, if you don't want your site generally considered a joke or to regain at least a shred of credibility, you can begin by taking Twitter away from this guy.

Curiously enough, as far as I remember last time I used my cellphone, car o vaccuum cleaner, I didnt' need any big corporation authorizing me to use their products once I already paid for them because surprise surprise, when I spend my hard earned money into any of these items I own them, not BMW, Samsung or Philips.
I am the owner now and got to do whatever I damn please with them. Which is something that apparently irks Microsof, EA, and their ilk, which now are bossing the consumer around, gladly letting us merely borrow "their" products instead of buying them. These corporations trying now to pretend that they are offering a service instead of a product are fooling noone: make me able to pay on a month per month basis so I can cancel their "service" whenever I feel that it is being a piece of shit, rather than me paying 100% for it in advance. I am sure that these arrogant big developers and their 6 hours campaings triple AA games with less content, depth and meat than a Gameboy cartdrige will be thrilled if such a scheme would be implemented and people would be able to cancel their suscription to their "service" four days after they "buy" their games and finish them, yes.
"Always online" is an unethical, anti consumer practic, period. I paid for the game, I own the game, and thus I will play with it whenver I want to, not whenever their creators feels like. Fuck that shit and everyone that supports it.

Twitter seems to be the catalyst that causes Detective GAF (or whoever) to dig. Not having a Twitter account is a good way to keep your head down.
When you say "blowing this" do you mean his statements or the bigger issue?
The problem is his actions/comments are inextricably linked to the always online issue. So the outrage is snowballing. People like drama so there's no easy way back I'm afraid.

yup, that sums it up pretty good. How anyone wants to defend the practise of these corporations baffles me. My faith or some people in games media is very very low.

This guy has a serious behavior problem.
Personally I think he should be only fired if always online feature is true, because MS would be spending a bunch of money hiring PR and marketing people to spin it as something good and he is undoing all of their hardwork before they can even start presenting it.
If its not true he shouldn't be fired because this incident will be nothing more than an ignorable bad memory in few months.
Regardless of it being true or not MS needs to issue a public apology for his behavior while representing their name on a public forum.
On top of that even if always online doesn't happen he still needs to be punished but I'm really unsure what would be the appropriate response. Suspend him with docked pay?

I understand this, my comment is meant to convey that we do not think daily if our electricity will be down. Eventually we will feel the same, if most of us already do not about internet connectivity. I do not want a console that will be useless if my internet is down any more than I want the food I paid for to spoil in a refrigerator with no electricity.

I think it's endemic of just how crap both the community and the press have gotten that someone going on a twitter rant is 100% for sure conformation of something and leads to massive meltdowns and hundreds of posts saying this is a for sure thing.
Yeah, but it's not just having an internet connection - it's about having an internet connection to Microsoft's servers.
The national grid doesn't tend to brownout whenever someone launches a high profile new model of fridge, and ultimately if they screw up for more than a few days they're obliged to fix it by law.

The content of these tweets is no longer the issue. Mainstream coverage of a negative narrative about MS' new console will become a massive problem if they don't kerb this soon. This could be Microsofts Sarah Pailin/Tina Fey moment -- where everyone has formed an opinion on you before you opened your mouth.

Well yeah, I'm not the kind of guy who would make fun of people who live in small towns. Same with that Penny Arcade thing with Ocean Marketing. I've never been a douchebag to anyone in my life, but still, the idea of spending your life building a career and it all comes crashing down in a day from a tweet or an email is a scary thought. I agree the answer is "don't be a dick". But it could also be "never say anything sarcastic or could be taken out of context."
