I will concur with that. As of now, I think iPad is best on a tablet simply because it has so many apps designed with iPad in mind. I love Android on the phone but Android tablets really lack tablet specific apps when compared to iPad and for that reason I see no point in purchasing one when I already have an Android phone. Definitely interested in Win8 tablet though. I like metro and the live tiles

Because they aren't going to make a big change to their controller for a feature that they want people to do with their phone, tablet, or desktop.
I really think that MS has a vision of people using their Windows RT or 8 tablet to control and interact with media in the living room.
Yes, but they don't have to make it their "main" controller, so to speak. They'll have the Nextbox controller (which will be like the 360 one; standard stuff) and a tablet/controller hybrid like the Wii U, so that they can have games that utilize both. Stuff that's more integral to the gameplay than what Microsoft demoed last E3 (I think it was E3, right?).
Who knows, either way I'm definitely excited with where Microsoft could be going. Now if they'd only drop Kinect...
I know it was successful, but it's like the main/only part of MS's strategy I hate, besides their decision to focus less on 1st party games.
SmartGlass doesn't appear to be anything remotely like the Upad though.

Surface RT comes with 32 or 64 and the Pro comes with 64 or 128.
Ah, so I'm assuming that it'll be a 50$ difference between the two RT's then? If they go with a 300$ and 350$ price tag, respectively for each device...that could be a real game changer. I guess it all comes down to marketing and how Microsoft treats the store that hosts the apps at this point.

The Nexus 7 is a great machine (had one for a while) but there's no way I'd go with anything else over the Surface in that price range.

It's from Valve's hardware labs.
The storage space difference between the two Nexus 7 models is 8GB. The difference between the two RT models is 32GB. The price difference between the two is going to be at least $100.
The 32GB base model will also not be under $399. I'm 100% certain of that.
I hope it's the angle or lighting, but that controller looks super-clunky and cheap. (I've seen it before, but I didn't remember it looking that way.)
It could just be a special controller for diagnostics.
Yeah, that's what I was thinking as well; just early hardware so they could get an idea of what was to come.

Hmmm...I wonder if since porting is easy between the platform (right?) we'll see a lot of the mobile games ported (doodle jump, tentacles, stuff like that).
I'd definitely buy one just for that alone.
Probably 350/450 with some launch bundle discount. The Surface seem to have better fit and finish than iPad.
The reason I don't believe the 299 price point is that MS didn't low ball the Kinect price. They could have, but they didn't.
People confused about the lack of price prior to launch, lack of marketing, only being sold in MS stores, etc. are forgetting this really isn't a typical product launch. It isn't something MS is putting out there to dominate the market with and advertise heavily. It's more of a template device to show the OEM's how to make Windows 8/RT tablets. The OEM's are still the key factor in this relationship. Similar to the Nexus phones for Android, they aren't marketed heavily. They are a template for the Android OEM's.
Also MS can't be undercutting their OEM partners and risk alienating them.

I don't get how MS' XBLA publishing history is so strong, but their Windows lineup is so shitty in comparison. Especially since the RT tablets won't run Steam.
The only thing that makes sense is the touch cover clicking in, which is such a weird thing to put front and center in your marketing. Or maybe the fact that you can use more peripherals?

Yes, and that it is a hybrid with only a couple mm thick cover. Those covers and the VaporMg are probably the only differentiators between them and everyone else.
I think MS' main goal(ok, maybe a secondary or tertiary) is to push their touch covers as the next standard for keyboard input. There is a lot of money to be made if other vendors start using those things.

About the type cover ...
There are a lot of accessories that do the same thing(speaking in general about accessories, not specifically capacitative keyboards), some look like ass, some don't. That "thing" you just posted, is the former
Although it does bring up the point that the MS covers would only work for a tablet that has a stand.Is that made out of recycled blue jeans? Like a pair of jorts for your tablet.
It seems to be the gamers who prefer sticks and buttons are willing to pay a lot more than the touch screen causal gamers. (That's the nicest way I can put it.)
I don't understand how Sony can fail so badly on the PSP Mini market either.
