Microsoft to live stream E3 conference on the 360

I forget where I streamed last year... Game trailers? Maybe Gamespot. Their stream is usually solid. I recall the youtube stream being behind by like 30 seconds.

Wonder if Sony will do something similar. I know Nintendo usually has a stream on their website.

I'll still have 5 different website streams open in different tabs just in case.

Btw, they can go fuck themselves if it is NA/GOLD restricted.

Last year GameSpot was the most solid for me for all of the big 3 plus Ubisoft.

Sony already streamed it Live in Playstation Home last time, they also had a virtual booth and stuff so they're way ahead.

The last two MS E3's have gotten more mainstream attention than the other two companies combined and the average Gold user spends more time on the entertainment apps than playing online games. Anyone expecting this to deviate from the last two years is delusional.

Hopefully this is a sign that it'll actually be good this year, instead of another Nintendo E3 2008 clone...

Microsoft has had the worst E3s the last two-three years, if they don't announce their new console, I doubt it'll be that good to be honest. We'll see though, hopefully I'm wrong.

Again, it is a sales conference. They are showing products they are going to be selling to retailers for the next year and securing shelf space.

I just don't think anything will surprise me, regardless of quality. The HBO Go and ESPN announcements were more exciting for me than Halo 4. Halo 4, Forza, God of War...that shit is a given. I thought that the presentation where they both announced and gave away 360 slims was pretty smooth and well executed.

This is pretty cool of them to do, streams can be messy and slow at times so I hope we get some better results from this new feature.

“Xbox: Entertainment Evolved,” hosted by “GTTV's” Geoff Keighley, will telecast live from the USC's Galen Center in Los Angeles. During the event, Microsoft will offer an exclusive world premiere of Halo 4, as well as present brand-new looks at Forza Horizon, Fable: The Journey, and world premieres of the most anticipated games of 2012 and beyond from Microsoft Studios and third party publishers. In addition, Xbox will outline how it is working with leading content partners to bring entertainment to life in profound new ways that are only possible on Xbox 360.

In addition to airing on Spike TV, Viacom Media Networks and Xbox will make “Entertainment Evolved” available across a record number of digital platforms and screens, including a live broadcast on Xbox Live and a live, high-definition global video stream on the Internet, powered by the Akamai HD Network platform. The event will also air live in Times Square and will be streamed on Facebook, Twitter, mobile platforms, Spike.com, Xbox.com/E3 and more.

Oh neat. About time. Really, all three console manufacturers should provide this and should have done so when this generation started. It wouldn't be that much work. Even the damn Wii can stream videos so no excuse there either.

Exactly my thinking. I believe Sony did something to that effect on PlayStation Home, but I don't think it was live.

I doubt this is Gold only. They are trying to get people and retailers to buy into Gold not foster their existing user base (stuff like Halo 4 is for those people). If they are broadcasting live in Times Square, I'm sure they are trying to hit a wide wide audience with some major media partnerships.

Hopefully it there for silver members as well.

Definitely after the fact, they've always done that, haven't they? Maybe with this being Gold-only (we all know it will be) that there won't be a wait for silver members to watch the recording.

EDIT: I keep saying 'I believe' or 'I think' because I'm not really sure. I know MS had their press conference up for viewing after the fact, but wasn't there a delay for Silver members?

As for it being Gold-only, most every video service they provide requires Gold, except the BBC iPlayer in the UK, and that really doesn't count. And they're all available on other consoles/platforms for free, other than the cost of the services' subscription. I don't get why so many of you seem to think the press conference live stream would be free for all? I just don't see it from MS, its not their MO.

Halo 4 and Crimson Dragon are the only things I'm looking forward to from MS this year. Hopefully they'll have a cool surprise or two.

IMO most gamers are selfish by nature so it's not surprising they look at these events how they want it to be rather than what should be expected. A company can announce a game through a website and it would receive a great amount of attention, however if a company announced a new casual motion control app/device, it's likely to receive less attention from those who follow gaming on a daily basis. So in this instance, events like E3 are the best venue to announce such things since it's one of the few times a year the mass media pay attention to gaming.

This way of thinking may be too logical for gaf though =p

I can only find news pressers that it would be live. I would like to know how it actually worked. The fact that it required you to install, load, and log into Home more than likely killed it.

True

I don't understand why Sony/MS/Ninty haven't done this every year. I have been wanting it ever since modern online functions hit the consoles. Finding/switching/reloading streams have always been a chore.

I've actually been kicking around the idea of getting rid of my cable recently, so I guess I might actually use this if I do.

I'm guessing the stream will be buggy, unreliable, and may lag the TV feed though, important for those fast moving online threads where you need to comment on the news fast (lulz)!

Wont there just be some internet live streams of it though? Say, IGN?

They handle livestreaming UFC pretty flawlessly now, so E3 should be okay.

Well that's because hundreds of thousands of people aren't slamming the free stream. This will be during work hours though, so it should be fine.

Yeah, I'd like to know what kind of numbers they get for it. There are a ton of my friends that have fight picks in, but I think you can do that without buying it.

Jesus. This sounds like a bit much. Are we sure we're not getting a console reveal announcement?
I know, I know...

Times Square?

They really want to reclaim the shooter crown with Halo 4, don't they?

Well, and whatever other stuff they've got to show.
