Microsoft will assimilate your handheld

Doesn't look like a mistranslation to me. You'll be able to hook up your PSP, iPod or other storage devices via usb.

Also, Microsoft has a handheld platform.

The portable music player connection makes sense for PSP.

I can't see them meaning DS here... I'd love to see MS DS apps but its not gonna happen... is it?

(but technically, MS didn't develop or publish it)

There's also the post-buy-out Rare stuff on GBA. Maybe they'll continue to treat Nintendo handhelds that way, or not feel reluctant in licensing-out/outsourcing MGS IP for use in handheld games.

Launching their own handheld probably isn't going to be a priority any time soon... they could make a killing on good handheld application(s) in the meantime :(

Again, I don't see it happening or anything.

edit: Jarrod beats me to the GBA conclusion :D Doh

this guy i work with sells xboxes to people by telling them its compatible with their psps.

AoEII on a console?! Shit! Was it good? I'm dying to play a good RTS on da couch. Someone better make it happen next gen.

Rare keeps dropping hints about DS support... I think it's just a matter of time really. Continued support for Nintendo handhelds was built into their buyout clause, why not take advantage of that?

Also Microsoft is already licesning out properties for DS release. Age of Empires II from Majesco and Zoo Tycoon from THQ being some of the first.
