Midsommar

Dunno man, the guy from this youtube channel sounds really REALLY stupid....and I mean really really stupid. Maybe he has an illness?

Just look at his retarded way of editing lmao.

And then all his other video's titles: Great News! Brie Larson - may be coming to star wars, Westworld - why i stopped caring, Great News! - Spiderman is leaving the MCU, posts a video about Endgame being a satisfying movie with a satisfying ending --> next video: WHY IM DONE WITH THE MCU, and last but not least: THE GENIUS OF THE LAST JEDI part 1

Anyone who calls this movie or Rian Johnson a fucking genius is automatically placed into my mentally retarded category.

Everyone can speak up his opinion but even an opinion can be a stupid opinion, generally speaking.

His shtick is his drunk hence the way he sounds and his video's like "Great News! Brie Larson - may be coming to star wars" are super sarcastic and made for a laugh, did you watch it?

Either way, his comedy won't be for everyone but I enjoy it and thought others might like his take on this movie.

I thought this film was great it wasn't particularly scary but it had a underlying dread throughout pretty original setting beautiful to look at as well I wish I'd smoked a joint and watched it on the big screen. And to the person asking about the significance of the deaths at the start
the whole point of the film was the main guy was a terrible bf the gf was completely disconnected with her bf and her life in general as apposed to the people in the village who were completely connected to one another and the world in general to the extent they feel each other's pain or joy etc.

Boring and predictable, I was actually happy
that everybody died,
all of them were either kinda non characters or unlikable.

Saw this last weekend. It certainly wasn't what I was expecting, and I don't think I'd call it a horror movie in the traditional sense. Just a long tense and (long, did I mention that) underlying dread feeling.

I went into it pretty blind other than knowing it was from the people who did Hereditary. Once we got into the main plot location I immediately got vibes of
Wicker Man and The Lottery
. I think some of the dark and sinister stuff could have been teased out a bit more but I guess the 'less is more' approach here.

I didn't totally hate it, but certainly didn't love it. I felt like some editing could have been done to reduce some unnecessary meandering at times, and wasn't really sold on some of the naivety of several characters as things progressed.

Really good movie, I loved how sunny the whole thing was. It just nailed that dreamy but tense atmosphere. Very predictable outcome though.

I watched it last night for the first time (director's cut) and thought it was great. I don't get the people saying it isn't scary. The prospect of being the only one among a group of friends to see the elevating horror of a situation and failing to convince them to leave is disturbing as fuck.

Seriously?? Your imagination and the unknown is scarier than anything a director can film. If you blow subtlety out the window in horror you wind up with bullshit like the Saw franchise. Hearing Connie's distant screams in the forest, or seeing the aftermath of Simon being blood eagle'd.. they're so much more effective than detailing the murder scenes. And speaking of the latter scene, I didn't catch this at first, but apparently Simon was still alive when Christian finds him. That's really fucked up.

I get that.. but I like the gory parts in movies.. But hopefully, the directors cut will have all this.

I just watched the director's cut.

I feel like I support Aster's work in large part because I hate cheap jump scares and Aster doesn't rely on them in either Hereditary or Midsommar, instead opting for (or at least attempting) to build atmospheric tension with a combination pulsing soundtrack-score/distinctive visuals/gritty performances.

As RLM said in their IT: Chapter One review, there is nothing memorable about a sudden loud sound, it is startling, but it isn't really provoking. Hereditary and Midsommar both have scenes I will never forget and style that I find pretty authentic and almost charming, in a disturbing way.

Hereditary, in my opinion, is a superior film to Midsommar, but I enjoy Midsommar quite a bit. For fans of movies like The Conjuring, these movies probably won't fit the bill. It just isn't that type of "horror." But I like that, I like variations, I like different flavors.

I also am a sucker for well executed slow burn films, and I would classify both of these as slow burners. I also like that Aster is a big believer of "the little details." Things you catch in a rewatch, in the backgrounds, or in comments.

All just my opinion.

(still salty my OP thread got hijacked)

(not really)

(but kinda)

I wouldn't go as far to say Aster is a masterful filmmaker yet, but I do think these two films are strong and I will look forward to whatever is next.

Watched it last night. After having Hereditary grow on me after watching it a few times I figured I'd like this one at least as much. I did not. Luckily I just got it from Red Box.

Maybe I'm being so hard on it since I was hoping for an actual horror movie, you know like how it was marketed. :pie_eyeroll:
