Saw one of these at Target and did a double take. Didn't have time to try it out, though. Anyone have impressions?

• Full-size 12-game machine
• Joust, Defender I and II, Robotron, Rampage, Splat, Satan's Hollow, Root Beer Tapper, Bubbles, Wizard of War, Timber and Sinistar
• Multiplayer action
• ESRB Rating: Rated E for Everyone

Holding out for the Namco version (not that there is one yet), but this is way cool just the same.

I heard that they had sound problems, aka some effects were muted, and also colors problems. But this could be due that the guy who told me that only tried a demo unit

I messed around with it for a bit and thought it was kinda cool. However, if I were to ever buy one of these, the first thing I would do is change out the monitor...horrible, but perhaps it wasn't properly calibrated. But one thing is for sure, it was too darn small.

The controls were serviceable but they did feel rather cheap. At least they had it configured for 2 player - 6 button configuration. So, it'd be ideal for fighters...perhaps there is an expansion system to buy into???

The cabinet itself seemed to be well built and sturdy and would feel right at home in some youngster's room and I wish they sold things like this while I was growing up!

Tried it out for a bit a couple weeks ago. I wouldn't buy it based on the monitor alone. It's just too small and low-quality. Plus, come on, you're spending that much money to play really old games on a small TV. You might as well get a TV plug-and-play for 20-30 bucks. As much as I would love to have an arcade cabinet in my apartment, this isn't an acceptable alternative.

Does any company release classic arcade games (1 game per machine with original hardware)? My dream is to someday open a retro arcade/bar or at least a retro arcade in my basement.

Why not just contact a local pinball/arcade dealer?

i tried it out a Target the other day.

i thought the video quality was atrocious; it looked as if it was hooked up through an uncalibrated composite connection.

yuck.

None around here. Guess I could find one elsewhere (when I get rich and have the money to buy the games). Figured arcade dealers would only stock modern games.

Here's a local video game dealer (always see their infomercials - and sadly watch them every time). Arcade machines are just too pricey. I want Burgertime but $1100 - dag. I will stick with my homemade emulator machine.

I played this the other day. That thing goes for $500?!? I thought it was just a display for a Midway plug-n-play unit. Everything about it screamed "CHEAP!!!" The games weren't even completely faithful to the originals.

Ehh, you just have to be slightly clever about it. In the past month I've picked up an Asteroids Deluxe cocktail and a Joust upright for $300 total. Other scores from throughout the years have included a free Moon Cresta cocktail, $50 Pac-Man cocktail, $100 Asteroids upright, $150 Tron, $70 Race Drivin, $130 STUN Runner, and $30 Arkanoid. I paid $200 each for some of my favorites like 720 and Dig Dug, but even those could easily be sold for 2-4 times that amount.

Obviously if you go through eBay or an arcade distributor you're going to have to pay a lot. What you want to do, if you're serious about picking up a few arcade games, is scour local papers and classified ads. Search for not just "arcade," but "game." At least 3 or 4 of the cabinets I've picked up have been listed as something like "VIDEO GAME, BIG TYPE, TAKES QUARTERS," and only upon further investigation have revealed themselves to be classic arcade games. This has all been made much much easier in the past year or so by RSS feeds -- I got both Asteroids and Joust as a direct result of the Craigslist RSS feed, for example. Sure, searching for games requires a little work, and the games often need cleaning/parts replaced/etc, but that's all part of the fun of the hobby.

bobby, my burning jealousy has melted my skeleton.

Not completely faithful?! In what way?

It was $449 at my local Target today.

I don't know who the market is supposed to be for a product like this.

I'll just wait and pay $30 for all those games when they become available on Xbox Live Arcade so that I can play them on my 48" Widescreen. Hell I think a couple of them are available on Live already.

Not to derail the thread but does anyone know what games will come on JAKKS tv's Capcom and Tecmo joysticks?

nm.. ignore me. Found the press releases. Capcom has 1942, Ghosts and Goblins, Mega Man, Gun Smoke and Side Arms. The Tecmo one will have Tecmo basketball and Football, Bombjack, Fire n Ice and Solomon's Key.

Jesus, you can get an Astro city cab + a good game for that much. What a fucking ripoff.

Thats what I was gonna say - I got an new astro city cab with a 27" (or 25", i forget) monitor for $450. Replaced the sticks and buttons for about $60, and slapped a 4 slot neo-geo board in there for another $180 - granted it's al little bit more money/effort, but judging from the midway pic it's like 1000 times better quality. Plus japanese cabinets look so damn cool.

I remember seeing a Neo-Geo tabletop cab at Playmores booth at E3, it seemed to be good quality and had like a dozen games on it - can't seem to find it anywhere on the web though.

EDIT: found it, looks like the make a Taito upright also:

i finally tried this thing out at my local Target today. it is a fucking atrocity.

no one here has come close to describing how appalingly bad this thing is. the people manufacturing this thing should be ashamed of themselves.

the monitor is small and very blurry, the sound sucks, and the controlls are a crime against humanity. the sticks are tall, flimsy, and very stiff. they actually creak and are hard to move. controlling Joust was nearly impossible. the buttons are just plain fucking crap.

this is not an arcade machine.

anyone would be better off buying a TV, a ps2, a classics collection or 3, and a pre-fab arcade stick. and you'd still spend less than you would on this thing.

stay far away.

:(

Looks like a huge waste of money and space. I'd say instead of that thing, get some good arcade sticks and the Midway Arcade Treasures compilations for whatever console, that'll give you better control, video, audio, and more games for a fraction of the price.
