You guys are living in a war-zone, I hope you know... If you need food or water, let me know; I'm a 3 hour drive away.

WASHINGTON - When House Majority Leader Tom DeLay sat down with reporters on Tuesday on Capitol Hill, he was asked to assess President Bush's campaign in Iraq and to respond to criticism that the military mission is not going well and the White House needs to develop an exit strategy.

DeLay offered this response: "These things take time and they take a long time, and some people get weary of the constant barrage that we see in the media.

"You know, if Houston, Texas, was held to the same standard as Iraq is held to, nobody'd go to Houston, because all this reporting coming out of the local press in Houston is violence, murders, robberies, deaths on the highways," DeLay said.

"And if you took that as the image of what is a great city that has an incredible quality of life and an incredible economy, it's amazing to me. Go to Iraq. And see what's actually happening there.

"Everybody that comes from Iraq is amazed at the difference of what they see on the ground and what they see on the television set."

:lol :lol :lol

I wonder if Tom DeLay has even been to Iraq yet?

Comparing his comments to the PBS Frontline report on private security contractors in Iraq that I saw last night makes my head ache. :lol Seeing the effort and danger involved in driving ppl from one part of Baghdad to another was scary enough, but I had no idea so many private security contractors were dying over there, and the most dangerous job looked to be escort duty, especially driving to and from the airport on "Death Highway".

$50/hour, but no kissing on the lips and colors must be pre-separated
Houston's Fifth Ward = Small chunk o' third world nation. Fact.

What's with all these closet Houstonians coming out of no where?

Look, we try to keep our heads down, and try not to identify where we might be. The insurgents down here might make an example of you.

Many people, such as I, have fled to the relatively safe harbor of Austin, but lord knows what will happen to this town once the military leaves to invade Houston...

Hey, I didn't ask to be sent to this god forsaken town full of heat and traffic and construction and bad drivers.

...

But now that I'm here I kinda like it.

I don't even know what highways he's referring to really. It looks like the Blast Corps team tore through Houston. I've seen Hot Wheels tracks that were less convoluted than the Houston freeways. Everytime I go rolling down I-10, it scares the crap out of me, because I'm locked in a four-lane deathtrap with no shoulders, narrow lanes, constantly shifting lanes, and a bunch of horrendous drivers in H2s, F350s, & Lincoln Navigators with 4 TVs on.

I can't even believe he said "great quality of life". Houston constantly ranks in the Top 10 American cities for all sorts of trash: Worst Traffic, Worst Pollution, Fattest City, Biggest Grease Trap, etc. Just because you can fire up a business and bank handsomely, doesn't equate to having a great quality of life.

You guys should've checked out some report on PBS last night about KBR and Halliburton. You'd think what the hell our government is doing with the defense spending.

Yea, I watched it. Good stuff.

Nothing does a body good like Frank's pizza after a night out downtown :D. Couldn't say how many times i've stumbled into that place after 2 am lol.

Not 24 hours but it stays open till i'd say at least 3 am to cater to the "drunken club" crowd that's letting out at 2. I've been in pretty late and still got hot out of the oven pizza (would know cause every f'ing time i'm in there i scald the top of my mouth cause i'm too drunk to wait for it to cool :lol).

FYI: Franks is off of Travis downtown.

LeBron loves his girlfriend. There is no other woman in the world he’d rather have. The problem is, Dwyane’s not a woman.

nah... maybe Double Daves or this badass local place Tony's New York Pizza.

Double Daves? They have those in Houston? They're like, even, worse than Fuzzy's; which for the record, isn't bad, just kind of mediocre.

I mean, really, it doesn't matter where you guys meet if you do, I'm not showing up. I only go to Houston on occasion to visit family and a whopping two friends there, but like hell if I'm going to endure THAT cop-infested, construction-laden traffic for just about anything. But hey, now that I've successfully derailed Incognito's thread a bit, can anyone recommend some good coffee shops (late night preferable!) or a good local CD store:)?

I just found the perfect coffee sh--....ah crap, they blew that one up too.

I know we've tried a meet up two years in a row, and always end up having everyone bail out.

Maybe someone else can try organizing it. :p
