Mission Impossible: Final Reckoning Trailer (Releases May 23, 2025)

I saw it today. For me this is the worst movie in the series. I liked Dead Reckoning, but sadly the sequel couldn't deliver. There is just a lack of action and set pieces, and a plot that takes way too long to advance. It has severe pacing issues. Gabriel was kind of sidelined and well,

his demise belongs in a slapstick movie.

Its the worst for me. MI2 had some John Woo sauce at least. 3 had PSH as bad guy and some fun action. FR has nothing of the sort.
Should've brought back Henry Cavill. He has an intimidating presence for Cruise to face off against.

Should've brought back Henry Cavill.

His character Walker got one of, if not the, the most brutal deaths of the series. Also, right before he died, half his face was chemically burned badly, so they couldn't even pull a "oh, it was another guy with a Walker mask on who for some reason was acting exactly like Walker for…..reasons", oh god, I'm having that bullshit Halloween Resurrection retcon nightmares from saying that, bleh, anyway, then Walker's skull gets impaled by a hook and he is pulled into a helicopter that explodes and then plummets a massive drop.

Suffice to say, only way Cavill was returning after that was in a flashback. Jeremy Renner's character from 4 and 5 returning would have been cool.

I posted my review in the Movies thread. Ok movie. I'm not an MI pro or anything so I went in blind.

By far best part of the movie was the submarine part. Rest of the movie plot is forgettable and convoluted with all the tasks and parts the crew has to juggle. The big chase scenes and fist fights are decent. Movie too long.

Yeah, it's too bad. Fallout was peak McQuarry.

I liked the whole Sub part, but they shouldn't have gone
with the suit removal. It makes no sense since in that cold he should faint on the spot, and we've seen more than enough Cruise in his boxershort already. I get you need suspension of disbelief, but this scene was pushing it.
.

He and PSH were the best villains, thats for sure. Altough I guess Voight was a strong villain as well, but MI1 is a whole different beast to the rest really. Its a great movie, very slow and noir like. I love it. Everything goes into more detail, like the briefing etc. It wasn't full blockbuster style yet.

Fallout is my number one MI anyway. Followed by GP.

But he would have looked kinda funny wearing a helicopter wrapped around him.

(I did enjoy his character in Fallout--and agreed: Having a fairly decent heavy for Ethan worked kind of well. Gabriel or whatever just doesn't have presence, IMO.)

I just watched this. Was okay, but weaker than the others and pacing is bad.

The two set-pieces were good, but the film overall ran too long and needed some massive cuts- at least an hour could be removed I'd say. Would like to see a fan edit done.

I finally saw this and frankly, I saw about 5 reviews of this movie and I have no idea what any of them were talking about. Every review said "The first half of the movie is full of nothing but flashbacks from every other MI movie, it's basically like 50% of the movie is a recap of all other movies" and that's just a flat out lie. Unless I watched some different version cut for streaming or something, I'd venture to guess if you took every flashback they had in the movie and spliced it all together, it would maybe be 5 minutes of screen time. Maybe. It was just little quick flashes to provide context, nothing more. I went in thinking they were going to be playing entire scenes and chunks of all the previous movies. So I went in prepared to be extremely disappointed, and I wasn't at all.

Maybe me going in with lower expectations is why I liked it so much, but I loved it. The submarine part of the movie might be my favorite part in any MI movie. It was fucking incredible. Just absolutely amazing the way that was filmed and how that looked. And the plane stunts, my god. Tommy C is the fucking action GOAT.

Anyway, is it my favorite MI movie? Probably not. But I really liked it, and I'll say Hayley Atwell is by far the best hot female MI lead the series has ever had. She's a fucking goddess, man she is just absolutely stunning. How hasn't she been cast as the token hot female lead in more movies? She's ever bit the eye candy that other gorgeous actresses are who get chosen for those roles, and she can actually act unlike some others.

So, yeah, I disagree with the lukewarm reviews on this big-time.

the weakest of all mission impossible movies

the bad:
- horrible music score, really bad, cheap TV show level bad, man fallout had auch great music, this one sucked
- the worst opening of all m:i movies
- way too much studio filmed scenes, man the last scenes are so bad, horrible HORRIBLE
- too much cgi
- a way to stupid plot and went way over the top with nonsense
- some editing during conversation felt very strange and fast, not m:i style
- the whole movie feels made by two different directors merged together
- the bad guy became a goofy character

the good:
- the whole submarine buildup/scene ist basicly the highlight of the movie and it is well done
- some good and charasmatic actors and acting
- tom cruise

fallout is by far the best one, this one is just okay, hardly rewatchable

Just watched this too. I thought I was watching a bad cartoon. MI2 might actually be better than this. Feels like Covid/ writers strike hit this one hard. Pissed he goes out with this one.

Watched it yesterday.
As an action movie I still think it was fun, the submarine part in particular was great, one of the best setpiece moments in the franchise IMO, and overall I liked it better than the previous one.

But I do think these last 2 movies were a step down for the franchise. The writing was pretty weak and felt too over the top even for MI standards.
And more than anything I think it really lacked a compelling villain. The main thread being a generic evil AI is very uninspired, and Gabriel was just awful in every scene, the way he speaks, his line delivery and even his gesticulation was all straight out of some Saturday morning cartoon.
