Mistwalker's site has returned

Who the hell is even at Mistwalker? I'm struggling to think of who there besides Sakaguchi warrants such a response from the core gaming community.

Someone could always try to message Sakaguchi directly through either his Facebook or his Twitter. I noticed this a little bit ago, but I'd still wait another few days before hitting the panic button.

Probably outcry due to the talent Sakaguchi was able to pull to work on a particular title because he's fucking Sakaguchi. MW itself was a small, oversee/director type of company. They outsourced a lot.

From what I understand, Mistwalker literally is Sakaguchi (and I guess some administrative staff) working with ad hoc teams to produce games.

First game was the beat Final Fantasy released last gen.

There was some recent speculation about a new project from the MW for Xbox.

I'm going to assume you meant to say "the best," in which I would argue that's only because FF13 was so incredibly disappointing and not because LO was exceptional in any way.

So you can literally just rename Mistwalker to Hironobu Sakaguchi and everything would stay the same?

Not really. Mistwalker has in-house scenario writers. It's analogous to Yuji Horii's company Armor Project and its role on Dragon Quest games, except that Mistwalker also has brand managers and I believe the UI designer was also in-house for a while.

So what's your take on this? Do you think this means anything? For a functional company of any size, it seems extremely weird/unprofessional to let your domain expire. You think Guch is done with Mistwalker?

I just noticed this as well when I read the thread about MS teasing.

Their Twitter hasn't been updated since March 28. of last year.

Were they permanent employees though, or just contracted for the games?

The trouble of outsourcing that much is that after each game they as a team don't have all they learned from the experience :/

If mistwalker had a fixed team of devs i think that things would have been better for them, and that their games would be more polished, too.

Was the tower defense game before or after Party Wave?

After, and I'd have no problem believing it killed them, it was absolute shit even standing out among the sea of shitty phone tower defense games as particularly bad

This isn't happening but:

I'd honestly welcome the news that Gooch was back at Square heading up a team. It would really replenish both their reputations.

Like Jobs back at Apple.
