It may have been stopped a TAD early.. but holding your hands on your head isnt an intelligent defense :P

you have to put up an "intelligent defense"

You cant just sit there and get blows rained on your head. Covering your head doesnt count as an intelligent defense in the UFC.

Good stoppage. Arlovski wasn't out, but you've gotta do more than hold your hand by your head while laid out flat on your stomach.

All he probably had to do was get to his knees, and it probably wouldn't have been stopped that soon.

Tim loses decidedly to Arlovski in rematch. Tim, and every HW in UFC, lose to Nog, Fedor and CroCop. Not even in the same league. Especially Fedor, that man isn't human.

I don't believe the Tim hype. He's the Hasim Rahman of the UFC. We all know how long his title reign lasted.

Arlovski shouldn't have stepped right into that punch. If it was to the throat it definitely wasn't intentional. I do think the fight was stopped way too early though. Especially a freaking title fight. I'm not even an Arlovski fan, but I felt sick when Sylvia was the holding the belt. Ugh.

As for Tito. I think he won the fight. Tito clearly took the first round. You can give Griffin the second round. The 3rd was close. But looking at the two after the fight it was clear who dealt the punishment. The few times Tito got hit hard it didn't seem to phase him. After Tito looked just like he did before the fight.

Pride wankers are so annoooooyyying

Look at Jabroni Baroni tear it up over there. ITS ALL EQUAL MANNNnn.

I THINK ARLOVSKI COULD GIVE ALL THOSE GUYS A RUN

No chance against Fedor. Flurry to takedown to pummeling. He's too good.

Little against Crocop. Crocop's simply a better striker, though we know how dangerous Arlovski's right hand is. But he got too caught up in chasing the big right hand against Sylvia, and Crocop would make him pay for that too.

He matches up best against Nog, imo. He'd be able to outstrike Nog, though not KO him, and Nog's takedowns might not be good enough to get him down.

If Nog gets it down, however (which could even happen just by Arlovski chasing him to the ground after scoring a knockdown) Nog will likely dominate, though Arlovski's probably good enough to avoid the subs.

So I could see Arlovski possibly taking a decision over Nog.

oh.. and owgp = joke

:lol Have to admit, I did some thinking of how he'd do against the Pride big 3.

Fedor: Fedor has the ability to take Tim down with a punch or Judo throw. He should get a sub from there.

Nog: I remember when Nog was rumored to fight Tim sometime last year. My opinion hasn't change yet. I am first reminded of the Sapp/Nog fight here. Nog will take a lot of damage in this fight. I have underestimated Nog's boxing before but he's not explosive enough to overcome the reach disadvantage. As for taking down Tim, I'm reminded of Ricco's failure to do so. But as the fight goes on, Tim will make a mistake and Nog will catch him.

Crocop: He would send Big Tim down with either his hands or kicks. In Pride, I could see him finishing Tim with soccer kicks. In UFC, Tim would have an easier time getting back up. If Tim catches Crocop, Tim has shown that he's very quick at following his opponent to the ground in numerous fights. Has Tim ever not finish someone after a knockdown?

Arlovski destroys Sylvia in a rematch there. I mean, c'mon... a throat punch for the win? How can you take any pride in that? If Andre were Tito he'd be saying as much right after the fight: "Well, what can I say? It's hard to win when someone jacks you in the trachea. I tore my ACL."

I can't wait for some of this shit. I'm finally getting into the MMA stuff and it's sooo much more fun to watch than boxing. Boxing is dead, imo, and I get enfuriated every single time I see some dildo on ESPN say that MMA is just a fad sport. SAID THE SAME THING ABOUT POKER, DICKHEADS!

hell yes. How is that entertaining to watch on TV?!
I don't watch poker, but I did watch Tilt and that was a cool ass show. Mainly because it was Michael Madsen running around as the God of Vegas, but still, fun show.

Anyways, it's besides the point. The point is that I get annoyed when people who regularly broadcast poker and make me miss PTI cuz they want to broadcast the Toyota Open from Boise, Idaho live on their main network, tell me that MMA isn't a real sport compared to boxing. Boxing? Has anyone watched a fight lately? I can't sit through one round, let alone a whole fight.

There are still good, entertaining boxers: Mayweather, Pacquiao, Barrera, Calzaghe, Winky, even Klitschko and Samuel Pete are interesting.

Boxing isn't dead, but it's tough to watch when two nobodies are fighting. The isn't always true for MMA, but there are some pretty sad and boring fights. I would just as soon see Pacquiao vs Barrera than Fedor vs CroCop.

I respect Boxing but I can't watch it anymore. It isn't the same after watching MMA. With MMA, you see fighting at it's best. Standing up, cliching, on the ground, wrestling, judo throws (Karo FTW :)), etc, etc.

Eh... same thing. People who know poker enjoy watching professionals in their element. You know MMA and I'm sure it's a thrill to watch a fighter who's badass and watch his style, moves, etc. I watch Phil Ivey play poker to see his strategies, what he does in what situations, and if you know what to look for it's pretty awesome and a learning experience. Like you might watch someone get the hooks in and reverse a move to cause a tap out and think it's brilliant, I watch a guy slow play 4 of a kind and knock someone out of a tournament.

Micheal can bang. I busted out laughing when he pull'd a Horn vs Liddell. Knocked him down, set back, BJM stood christian up, rinse and repeat.

I'm starting to like fightreport.net if just for the KO gifs. I know Kristian got blasted with that knee but the guy had no endurance at all. And Michael is really building up his fight with Hamill.

I am.....so jealous.

Back home today, there was a Matt Hughes seminar and autograph session. My dad, brother, and his fiance were all able to meet him and get their pictures taken with the UFC belt.

If it was only one week later...I could have gone. But alas, I'm still at school in exams :(

They did get take the shirt that I had GSP sign and got it signed by Hughes too.

Here's the full OWGP card:

* Roman Zentsov vs Gilbert Yvel (Non-Tournament Fight)
* Alistair Overeem vs Fabricio Werdum
* Tsuyoshi Kohsaka vs Mark Hunt
* Josh Barnett vs Aleksander Emelianenko
* Kazuyuki Fujita vs James Thompson
* Mirko Filipovic vs Ikuhisa Minowa
* Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira vs Wagner “Zuluzinho” Martins
* Hidehiko Yoshida vs Yousuke Nishijima

Fedor may get the bye to the second round. Too bad we're not gonna see any top MW's against HW fights other than Alistair. The absence of Coleman is odd, maybe they're saving him cuz Chute Boxe is not in the GP.

Damn that looks...weak. Only Barnett/Alex is really doing anything for me there. TK/Hunt might be interesting. Otherwise...meh.

Shocking news today. K-1 annouces Sakuraba in their Hero's 187 lbs tournament!

Biggest jump of the year at Hero's show

by Dave Meltzer

Dave@wrestlingobserver.com

In news that rocked the Japanese wrestling and MMA scene, Akira Maeda introduced Kazushi Sakuraba after intermission at tonight's Hero's show as the company's new star.

Sakuraba, the pro wrestler who put Pride on the map with his wins over several members of the Gracie family in 1999 and 2000, took the promotion from struggling to sell 5,000 tickets at shows to selling out the Tokyo Dome on more than one occasion.

Sakuraba came out wearing a Tiger Mask, as a tribute to one of his childhood wrestling idols, and it was announced he would debut with Hero's in August.

Pride is expected to hold a press conference tomorrow in response to this.

With Sakuraba, and potentially Brock Lesnar, as additions, along with the star power of Kid Yamamoto, Hero's has made a major statement in regards to what promotion will be considered going forward as the most successful MMA group in the world.

Winners of the main matches on the show tonight were Kid Yamamoto over Kazuyuki Miyata, Yoshihiro Akiyama over Katsuhiko Nagata, and Don Frye over Akebono, all as expected.

Apparently, Sak never took off the mask though.

And some UFC confirmed news http://sports.bostonherald.com/otherSports/view.bg?articleid=140227&format=&page=2
UFC 61 to feature Arlovski vs Sylvia 3 and Tito vs Shamrock. TUF 4, which is currently filming, to feature vets at a chance at a title shot. No coaches but Randy, GSP and Mark Delagrati to act as advisors. So I take it no teams and this is more of a straight up tourney? Also, video.ufc.com beta has launched where you can buy individual fights or a subscription to download fights. The nice thing is you are supposed to be able to download prelim fights.

Im curious to see who's favored on GAF, Rolls Royce (I know it's pronounced like an "H") or Matt "good country breakfast" Hughes. I want predictions also. Don't just say Gracie or Hughes tell me how you think they are going to win. I want to set up something similar to a spread to bet with my friends so i need odds.

Also forgive me if this was beat to death already on this thread as i haven't read the whole thing. Just quote yourself if you've already made the predictions i asked for. Thanks.

i think hughes will put him on his butt, but you can never doubt hoyce. in MMA all it takes is one mistake and youre done

im more interested in finding out when hughes and babalu will fight

Hughes by KO/TKO 34.51%
Hughes by decision 12.43%
Hughes by submission 8.89%
Gracie by KO/TKO 3.20%
Gracie by decision 2.80%
Gracie by submission 38.16%

That's how people on UFC.com (It's not .tv anymore?) have it breaking down. I have a few people that i want to throw around cash with and i think i have Gracie favored also. No one else but Truffleshuffle, thanks by the way, has anything to add?

Lots more UFC news. http://www.canada.com/topics/sports/story.html?id=315d3e76-9487-41ec-abe2-4b9b47f21aae&k=10962

Among other interesting info
"We will come to Canada soon," added UFC president Dana White.
A natural debut bout for Canada would be the planned welterweight title battle between American champion Matt Hughes and Montreal's Georges St. Pierre.
UFC showing Canada love.
-The UFC plans to hold a card in England in March and plans to open an office there this fall, with plans to stage fights elsewhere in Europe.
And Europe too.
-Light-heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell, back from a toe injury, will meet Brazil's Renato (Babalu) Sobrel on Aug. 26 in Las Vegas at Mandalay Bay. Liddell knocked out Sobrel with a kick to the head in UFC 40: Vendetta in November 2002. "Obviously Babalu deserves this shot. He's been winning consistently. We'll see what happens with Ken and Tito. ... Everyone would love to see Tito and Chuck fight again."
Babalu should get his shot before Tito dammit.
-Former champion Randy Couture, who retired at 42 after being knocked out by Liddell at UFC 57: Liddell vs. Couture 3 in February, is thinking about a comeback.
Legends match would be great. Don't make another run for the title Randy.
-Gracie's fight in the UFC is a one-off. "I'll be pretty screwed" (if he wins), says White.
HA HA.
-Middleweight champion Rich Franklin, who needed hand surgery after battering Montreal's David (the Crow) Loiseau into submission in UFC 58, is expected back in action in October. "His hand is healing great. He's going to start punching again in the next few weeks." Opponents under consideration include the winner of the Anderson Silva-Chris Leben fight and the Ultimate Fighter Season 4 winner.
What about Nate the Great?

I really, really respect Royce for stepping up but this is Matt's fight to lose. Matt just needs to stay off his back and pound Royce out whether it's standing or in Royce's guard.

Press Release

“THE ULTIMATE FIGHTER: THE COMEBACK”

GOES INTO PRODUCTION IN LAS VEGAS

New Season of Spike TV Series Has A Special Twist As All 16 Contestants Are Former UFC Fighters Looking To Make A Comeback

Winning Contestants Receive A Guaranteed Title Fight and a Six-Figure Cash Prize

Las Vegas, NV, May 23, 2006 -- Imagine sixteen fighters living together in a house in pursuit of one dream – a UFC title that has always eluded them. Imagine many of those living together having once fought against each other in the UFC Octagon™. With revenge and redemption on the line – Spike TV presents season four of The Ultimate Fighter.

Sixteen former UFC fighters, eight middleweights and eight welterweights, have gathered in Las Vegas for a new season of the wildly popular series, The Ultimate Fighter: The Comeback. The special twist to season four is the winning middleweight and welterweight fighters are both guaranteed a title fight and a six-figure cash prize. Production begins this week in Las Vegas. The series premieres on Spike TV Thursday, August 17 at 10:00pm ET/PT. The Ultimate Fighter: The Comeback is hosted by Dana White, UFC President.

Instead of coaches, The Ultimate Fighter: The Comeback will include prominent names in the UFC serving as advisors and counsel to the 16 fighters. They include: Randy “The Natural” Couture (UFC legend and former light-heavyweight champion), Georges St. Pierre (highly regarded UFC welterweight), and Mark Delagrati (Muy Thai coach and trainer).

During the competition, the 16 men will endure a grueling regimen of jiu-jitsu, judo, Muay Thai, karate, boxing and wrestling. The intense competition between the fighters will continue after they leave the gym - at The Ultimate Fighter™ House. The warriors will be forced to live with each other, knowing that any day they could be forced to fight each other in the famed UFC Octagon™. Unlike previous seasons, the fighters not only know each other from fighting in the UFC, but many in fact have fought against one another. There will be scores to settle as grudges and old wounds will be exposed.

As in previous seasons there will be two teams, despite the fact there won’t be any coaches. In each episode, opponents from each team will be selected to square off in battle, officially weighed in and then, in front of their teammates, advisors, and the sanctioning Nevada Athletic Commission, the two combatants face off in two 5-minute rounds (the semifinals will consist of three 5-minute rounds).

Ultimate Fighter 4

Speaking of the Spike TV show, which culminates with a June 24 live bout headlined by Kenny Florian vs. Sam Stout, the fourth season will offer viewers an interesting twist.

“The Ultimate Fighter: The Comeback” is set to debut Thursday, Aug. 17 at 10 p.m. on Spike. The fourth season will focus on fighters whose dream of winning a UFC title have never come true. The 16 former UFC fighters - eight middleweights and eight welterweights - are already gathered in Las Vegas for production of the series, which begain yesterday.

Added to the drama of these guys all living in one house is the fact that some of them are former rivals, bringing revenge and redemption into the equation. The winning middleweight and welterweight will earn title fights and a six-figure cash prize.

“The Ultimate Fighter 4 is the comeback season and it’s going to be the most exciting yet,” said UFC president Dana White. ‘Everyone knows these fighters, but it’s going to be a totally different show and we’re pumped to get started on it.”

Instead of coaches for the two teams, prominent UFC personalities will serve as advisors and counsels for the 16 fighters. They include Randy Couture, Georges St. Pierre and Mark Delagrati.
