Good job, Pujols.

I'm a bit embarrassed at how the team is celebrating this win, though. It was a humiliating game in every aspect.

Being an Astros fan is so soul-crushing. 27 Million dollar payroll. That's less than the Angel's starting rotation makes.

I'm fine with it though. We've had way better games thus far this season than I saw in 08-10 when we had all old/out of shape/ over the hill people not giving a shit and getting a ton of money. At least the guys now aren't getting paid 8-10 mill.

Damn, Vera's should've closed that out, especially witH Fat Trout running the bases. Hahaha at them celebrating like they won the World Baseball Classic.

Yep, and at least you can follow the minor league prospects around if the major league team depresses you too much. 2006-2007 Rangers was hell

Pretty cool story about the Grienke trade that sent him to the Brewers and what the Royals got in return:

It's been 28 months since the Royals made a trade that altered the direction of the franchise, sending Greinke and Yuniesky Betancourt to Milwaukee for Escobar, Cain and minor league pitchers Jeremy Jeffress and Jake Odorizzi. The Royals sold Jeffress to Toronto in November, and the Blue Jays designated him for assignment last week. Odorizzi spent a year in the Royals' farm system before Moore flipped him to Tampa Bay with Wil Myers as part of an offseason trade that brought Shields and Wade Davis to Kansas City

Cain, 26, is running hard to make up for lost time. Growing up in the three-stoplight town of Madison, Fla., he spent his formative years helping out around the house while his single mother, Patricia, worked two jobs to support the family. He never played organized baseball until his sophomore year of high school, and he didn't earn a starting spot on the varsity until his senior year. The Brewers, nevertheless, saw enough promise to select him in the 17th round of the June 2004 draft. They signed him to a $100,000 bonus in April 2005 after he spent a year at Tallahassee Community College in Florida.

Something always seems to come up to stall Cain's momentum. In 2011, the Royals blocked his route to the majors by trading for Melky Cabrera. Last year, Cain was poised for a breakthrough out of spring training. But five games into the season, he crashed into a wall making a game-saving catch and strained his left groin. Throw in a torn left hip flexor and a strained right hamstring in September, and the leg injuries limited him to 61 games played.

Cain knows he has a reputation for fragility. He finds it a little unfair given that he had four seasons in the minors with 500 or more plate appearances. But he worked extra hard to amend it over the winter, traveling to Kansas City once a month from his home in Florida to spend time working out under the supervision of the Royals' trainers. Cain is also more focused on nutrition after getting married in October. His bride, Jenny, takes part in bikini fitness competitions, so he's not even the most impressive physical specimen in his own household.

"I have to stay in shape to try to keep up with her," Cain said, laughing
.

While filling out physically, Escobar has also become more aware of his strengths and limitations as a hitter. His batting average increased from .235 to .254 to .293 over the past three seasons. A look beyond the surface numbers shows a higher percentage of ground balls, fewer fly balls and a higher batting average on balls in play. Escobar has worked to improve his bunting, and he was successful on 87.5 percent (35-for-40) of his stolen base attempts in 2012.

Time marches on. In the span of five months, Greinke left Milwaukee for the Angels in a trade, then signed a $147 million deal with the Dodgers as a free agent. He was doing just fine until San Diego's Carlos Quentin went off the deep end Thursday and broke Greinke's collarbone in a confrontation at the mound.

Meanwhile, Alcides Escobar and Lorenzo Cain are doing their best to bring some up-the-middle pizzazz to the Royals. If they keep progressing the way Moore and Yost envision, they won't be Kansas City's little secret much longer.

Started reading Francona's book tonight. Really like it so far. Anyone have any recommendations for other "in-baseball" guys who have a book?

Astros are currently on pace to beat the strikeout record by less than a 100. It was much funner when they were on pace to break it by nearly a 1000. Still averaging 10.27 a game

Interesting not counting last year draft and cole the following #1 picks never made the MLB

2008 Tim Beckman - Currently AAA, guess he still could make it, batting .150 though this year and in 2 full seasons and a partial is a career .251 AAA hitter. Still 23 too. Probably will get some kind of stats at some point

2004 Matt Bush - AA, last stats on baseball reference was 2011, according to Wiki as of Dec 2012 he serving a 51 month prison sentence for some drunk driving incident

1991 Brien Taylor - 1 season AA and mostly A, was #1 prospect in 92 and #2 in 93

In March 2012, Taylor was charged with cocaine trafficking after undercover narcotics agents purchased a large quantity of cocaine and crack cocaine from him over a period of several months.[7] He was federally indicted on cocaine trafficking charges in June 2012.[8] Taylor plead guilty in August 2012 and was sentenced to 38 months in prison, followed by three years' supervised release.[9] Taylor, inmate 56437-056, is currently serving his sentence at Federal Correctional Institution, Fort Dix.

lol
1966 Steve Chilcott- Made AAA but most his stats are at A

Would suck if a Pirate was ever a #1 and never made the pros, just like it sucks because of Selig we couldnt give Appel his money and didnt land a 1st rounder last year

Taylor has his arm ruined in a fight in A-ball, couldn't hit 85 on the gun after that. Why his career failed.

If this series with St Louis were a scene from Saving Private Ryan, I predict today will be the soulless German slowly driving the dagger into Mellish's chest while the latter contorts with agony.

Just goes to show you, not enough fitness training or muscle tone in the world to distract you from that enormous nose...

Hyun-Jin Ryu is going to be worth every cent the Dodgers paid for him. His stuff is filthy. Oh, and for a guy who throws mid 90s, Brandon League has the worst stuff in the majors. That is all...

If we continue with our current trajectory, we'll win 32-0 today. I suspect, though, we will lose.
With the way the Brewers are swinging the bats and how well Hymay pitches at Busch, I'd love to see our scoreless inning streak to reach the low 40s (it's at 32 right now, I think). But it's baseball, so he might just get rocked - I just hope we win.

Outside the Lines did a hilarious smear job on Jeffrey Loria and the Marlins this morning. They couldn't have made him sound like more of a dirtbag lol

Mets game postponed due to snow.
Yeah, til Aug. 19 which was supposed to be an off-day after a 10-day west coast road trip. Gonna suck.

They don't have to try very hard.

I'm still trying to figure out why we went after League last year.

There was a legitimate fear that Kenley Jansen's heart related issues might be career threatening, and the League signing was an overreach to cover that possibility. The problem with League is that he's a righty throwing a predictably moving, tailing fastball, which totally negates his ability to use it as an out pitch against right handed batters. It's why, for a guy who throws 95, he strikes out such a relative few guys...

Oh that's right! I forgot about Kenley's heart problem.
