MMOFPS for Xbox 2

http://interviews.teamxbox.com/xbox/1105/Huxley-Interview/p1

damn

"Were you upset when True Fantasy Live Online got canned? Are you still waiting for Star Wars Galaxies? You think Delta Force Black Hawk Down's 50 player battles look good? Wait until you play with your clan in 5,000 player battles... XNA and the next generation of Xbox Live will make it possible.

If the concept of a massive multiplayer online FPS sounds too good to be true…it isn’t. In 2006 it will all become a reality thanks to the folks at Webzen; the Korean development studio behind the Unreal Engine 3-powered gem entitled Huxley a game that will use the most advanced tools to create the ultimate Xbox Live experience."

whoops... didn't see other thread.

sorry

Bah!!

WTH do Devs start hyping games up YEARS before they're supposed to come out? Sure, Huxley is destined for 2006, but that probably means FALL 2006, and that's before any delays which you KNOW will happen since it's a friggin MMO game. I have no pity for any idiot or retard that starts following this game so early because it'll only disappoint. Shame on the devs for coming out so early.

However, it's very good to see the emergence of new Korean talent making more of a splash on the global scene. They have some ridiculously talented people over there, so it'll be cool to see how the korean dev community expands.

Muwhahaha, the game that can't be done on other next gen consoles?
What universe is teamxbox in? :lol :lol

Lets hope its a bit deeper than Planetside.

Not that I don't love Planetside, because I do... there just wasn't much to it. And the art was better before they changed it around a bit.

It’s hard enough to find an online game with 16 people who actually play the game the way it was meant to be played. For some reason I foresee 2499 people on an aircraft carrier waiting to shoot down the poor fool stupid enough to try to take off with a plane.

How can Xbox 2 get a MMO anything if it doesn't have a hard drive? Xbox 1 had at leat 4-5 MMO games announced that never came to fruition, and it actually had a standard HDD. The market on Xbox 2 would be even worse if they are just catering to people that buy the HDD add on.

As I said recently, trying to meld any action-oriented genre into an MMO structure is probably a bad idea. The types of people that play FPS games aren't looking for huge time sinks, and the whole balance of the game gets thrown off if you throw in a leveling system. When the whole basis of the game is PvP, you can't have massively overpowered people running around slaughtering the casual players.

Additionally the genre is really centered towards small, tight, focused level design.....not massive persistent worlds. Trudging across some large open overworld just to get sniped from the other side of the continent will not be that fun. The larger the world, the more the game will simply favor sniper gampers.

I think there is definitely room to make more ambitious and open FPS titles, but turning it into Everquest is probably too much.

I like how the article makes it sound like MMOFPSs are new :-p.

Either way, Planetside was a great idea with poor execution. It could've been a really, really interesting game.

Same with WWII online. :\

Although, it seemed like the problem with WWII was more technical issues than anything.

Well WWII also had really, really, really shit controls. See the Lum the Mad IRC log about that.

400 (hyperbole) different key strokes to brandish and fire a gun does a fun game not make.

The screen shots show pretty enclosed environments so far. In a Matrix-like real world this would be acceptable, but I'd really like to see some wide open areas.
