I used to build these things all the time. (I always used non-toxic glue and paint, you nimrods. :p) Lately, I've lost the time and patience, got all the materials to build an F1 Ferrari whenever I want but don't feel like going through the hassle again. So I just buy the big diecast ones like you can get at Sharper Image. If I look up at my desk, I see these cars (I'll take a pic when I can):

1:24 Dodge Copperhead concept
1:18 '02 Honda S2000 (red)
1:18 Lamborghini Diablo SV (pink)
1:18 Lamborghini Miura (yellow)
1:18 Ferrari 360 Modena (red)
1:24 Ferrari 550 Maranello (yellow)

And on top, a 1:18 '05 Mercedes-Benz SLK350 (black)

Nice collection you have there. How is the quality of the diecast metal cars that you got from Sharper Image? Last time I was there I saw an Aston Martin model that looked really sweet.

The quality is fine, it used to be better I think. I used to have a model of the original SLK, and it had an actual folding roof, just like the real thing. The '05 model doesn't, it just has a fixed hardtop. Also, the models don't have the painstaking detail that you can get if you actually build it yourself, painting each individual part with the correct color. You can re-detail the cars yourself of course, and I've done that before. The body paint, OTOH, definitely holds up over time.

I also have a Jaguar XK8, Jag Mk II, a BMW 850i, and a few others that I simply don't have room for. Many, many old kits got thrown away after the plastic bits didn't fit together right and I broke something essential, like an axle.

Please, please tell me someone has this tucked away somewhere, forgotten. And if you do, take pictures, for the love of God, PICTURES:

Ah, cool thread. I've got a few diecast models, all 1:18 (won't accept anything less)...

Subaru Impreza WRC 2000 Corisca (Burns)
Toyota Corolla WRC 2000 Safari (Sainz)
Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VI 2000 Monte Carlo (Makinen)
Ford Escort WRC (alas it's from a different series, has Martini colours on it)
Ford Focus WRC 2000 Monte Carlo (McRae)
Ferrari F1 2003 (Schumacher)
McLaren F1 2003 (Raikkonen)

Undoubtedly though, this is the crown jewel of my collection...

Kyosha's Lancia Stratos HF...only a 1000 of this particular model was made. The quality is simply exceptional. I'll try and get some pics taken of these cars in the next few days and throw 'em up.

In the meantime there are more models that I'd like to buy...

ALMS Corvette Z5
Peugeot 206 WRC
Ferrari 360 Spyder
Porsche Carrera GT
Lancia Delta (probably impossible to get over here without paying through the nose)
Audi R8
Citreon Xsara WRC

This would be ten times longer if I had more money, but that's what I'm hoping to get in the next year or two. With any luck I'll be able afford at least a couple of these at the auto show next month.

I can't find autoart WRXs anywhere in the UK. I ended up buying some other make of the WRX which isn't as good. It'll do until Autoart get their act together. How long can it take to get 2003 cars out?

I have a 1:18 model Mini Cooper on my desk at work, and a smaller one at home, as well as a radio controlled Mini. Shock and awe, I know.

Ferrari Testarossa (Blue)
Mclaren F1(Green)
Viper GTS (Blue w/ white stripes)
Lmabo Murcielago (Yellow)
Lambo Diablo (Yellow)
Porsche Boxter (Silver)
Ferrari f50(silver)
dodge copperhead (copperish...go figure)
Plymouth baracuda(yellow)

I have a few others stashed away but don't really feel like looking for them to remember what they were.
