Monolith Soft are now 100% owned by Nintendo

Great move on Nintendo's part; I'm expecting they'll buy out Pokemon Company wholly or increase their shares in it; same with HAL. There are probably a few others they could look into either acquiring or partnering with too, like NIS Japan.

But outside of those sorts, I don't see Nintendo acquiring any major game studios or publishers, they don't really need to. Now things like a toy manufacturer or electronic accessories maker? Yeah, I can see moves in those areas as they would further enable control in merchandising of IP.

Platinum best work has been under Nintendo so in my opinion, Platinum would surely thrive as a studio under Nintendos guidance. They should continue the Astral Chain IP and turn it into a franchise. The first one was so good and deserves a sequel.

What's left of Platinum Games these days though, genuine question? They've had nothing but major flops for a while now.

I mean maybe they can do something with W101 (who owns that IP, Platinum or Nintendo?) or even Pikmin, but I just don't know.

Personally, I think NIS Japan would be a better pickup, if they're in the market for being acquired.

It sure would be cool if Nintendo would buy a bit more of the Pokémon Company to control 51+%.

W101 is owned by Platinum now, as Nintendo has 0 interest in the IP.

Out of curiosity, why do you think NIS Japan would be a good pick up?

That would be nice but Pokémon is way too big and profitable for The Pokémon Company to ever let that happen
From how I understand it, the Pokémon Company doesn't have too much of its own voice and is basically just Nintendo, Creatures and Game Freak all working together.

I don't see Game Freak wanting to be acquired any time soon, but if they were then I think Nintendo would get the Pokémon Company and Creatures as well.

Oh okay, didn't know that about W101 beforehand!

About NIS Japan, well one of the reasons I think they'd do well for Nintendo is because they are very consistent with their quality. A lot of their games are niche, but they're of great quality with their fanbases & communities. Their games don't cost a lot to make, and they could probably do some neat things with some of Nintendo's IPs like Fire Emblem.

NISJ could be a complementary RPG/SRPG (or TRPG) studio for Nintendo leveraging Nintendo IPs into those markets while Monolith focused on the bigger RPGs, mainly the Xenoblade games. Plus NISJ have experience with mobile, and Nintendo have an interest in being on mobile. So if nothing else they could have NISJ as an in-house studio making some mobile spinoffs with Nintendo IP, and I think NISJ's genre specialties might have some good pull in the mobile space if paired with the right IP.

Lastly, I doubt NISJ would be an expensive pickup. How much did MS pay for Playground Games? NISJ would probably be somewhere in that ballpark if it's $75-$125 million, possibly.
